What went down…In a nutshell. By: Thomas Michael

The Key Club International Convention was a time well spent on making new friends, exploring new locations, and learning new lessons. For the New Jersey District, our journey to California started at the airport, and then with a five and a half hour flight later we landed in what most people would call paradise. We were lucky enough to fly out of New Jersey a few days before International Convention to take time to explore California and everything it had to offer, and also bond as a district. We had the opportunity to start off our International Convention with a gigantic meet and greet where we were able to trade pins and meet a substantial amount of people from around the world. Throughout the convention, we were able to intermingle with many different people from many different cultures from our own. During the convention, we were representing our state and our

of representing one of our own members Nicole Lema, who was running for International Trustee. We had the grand opportunity for more in depth workshops in which we could learn more about our duties as Key Clubbers and what we are accomplishing. International Convention is the place where the new Key Club International Board is elected and where major international bylaws and amendments are debated. We had the opportunity to listen to all of the candidates for the International Board during their caucusing speeches. The lucky few people from each school had the opportunity of representing their school during the House of Delegates sessions while we debated and some might say out right battled for changes within our bylaws. We also were the lucky few who were able to vote on who would fill the role of our next International Board. On our last day at ICON we attended the closing ceremony where we rejoiced to hear that our very own Nicole Lema would in fact be representing us next year as our International Trustee. During ICON bigger districts such as CaliNevHa could always be heard chanting and cheering on about their district, but when the New Jersey District heard that Nicole had won and was trustee, we were louder than ever chanting “NJ All Day”. We eventually settled down after our hands were hurting from clapping so hard, so we were able to finish the closing ceremony. ICON this year was a time that we will all cherish forever and never forget.

The trip we took. This year, the New Jersey District took off to begin their adventure on June 30th.

They hopped off the plane at LAX, with their dreams…and their Key Club pins, anxiously awaiting for the wonderful week to come. The NJ district was lucky enough to arrive in California two days before the convention, so what did they do? They took over CA. Well, kinda...the first day, they explored California Adventure land, and learned all about how Disney became Disney, and even got the chance to learn how to draw some well known Disney characters! Then the second day, the NJ District was able to get a close up look of LA with their own private tour. They checked out all the fascinating and historic landmarks of LA and Hollywood and shopped at the areas most exciting shops! Can’t believe it? Take a look… What’s New in Division 2 | July 2014 | Volume 1, Issue 3 | Page 7

Then, later on the second day… There was… Meet and Greet. This night was one is which you can listen to some good music and meet Key Clubbers from all over! The Key Clubbers in which you would get to know and spend the rest of ICON with. A popular activity that was done at Meet and Greet was pin trading, Key Clubbers had the chance to collect pins from other districts! This helped them meet new people, and remember them too, with a fun new pin! Along with this, it was also the night where you could see our wonderful District Governor, Sam Levisay, as our mascot, a tomato (see background photo)! “Key Club ICON had me like a giant tomato.” – Governor Sam Levisay

ICON July 3rd - 5th At ICON, the New Jersey District attended convention workshops, general sessions, House of Delegates, and an Eliminate Luncheon. They took part of the caucusing process, and helped elect a new Key Club International Board along with taking part in debating some important bylaw amendments. Along with that, Key Clubbers had the privilege to listen to a few inspiring leaders and people, and hear their stories. These people included Chris Bashinelli and Louise Ashby.

Something I learned and definitely found to be true‌

And after some serious caucusing,

ICON ended with the election of a brand new International Board! One of who, is New Jerseys very own, Nicole Lema!

She is now the International Trustee for the Alabama, Michigan, and Kansas Districts! Please note, that the International Trustees did not know what their Districts were to be until their first meeting, which was not at ICON.

And KCI’s New International President and Vice President are…

And New Jerseys assigned International Trustee is…

Barry Seng from the Pennsylvania District!
