Dianne Smith, Go Tell It on the Mountain, 2020. Video, 7 minutes, 32 seconds. Commissioned by the National Black Theatre.Dianne Smith’s career as a interdisciplinary artist and cultural worker spans over two decades. Smith’s solo and group exhibitions include, Uptown Triennial 2020, Wallach Art Gallery, Columbia University, Unbought & Unbossed: Reclaiming Our Vote, Go Tell It on The Mountain, 2020 National Black Theatre, Styling: Black Expression, Rebellion, and Joy Through Fashion 2020, Nordstrom, and Stuff, 2020, Barnard College Library, and I found God in Myself, 2018, Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. In 2013 Smith received a Fulbright from The United States Consulate General in Guayaquil, Ecuador to work on a public art mural with local artists through the Museo Municipal de Guayaquil; Museo Arte y Ciudad.
Her collectors include, National Museum of Women in the Arts, Petrucci Family Foundation Collection of African American Art, The Brodsky Organization, Danny Simmons, the late Cicely Tyson, Arthur Mitchell, and Maya Angelou, George Faison, Tasha Smith, and Terry McMillian. Most recently, she has been commissioned by the Park Avenue Armory for its 100 Years | 100 Women project to commemorate the 19th amendment (granting women the right to vote) 100 years after its ratification.
Smith is a Bronx native of Belizean descent. She attended the Otis College of Art and Design and, the Fashion Institute of Technology. Smith received her MFA at Transart Institute in Berlin, Germany and she currently lives and creates in Harlem, NY.
