Between Harlem and

Dianne Smith
Me 1

Between Harlem and Me are a series of images from my most recent body of work. The montage overlays my photos with images from the Schomburg's archives. I have been documenting changes and the impact of gentrification in my Harlem community since the 1990s. I need to normalize Black and Brown life in America absent of the white gaze. I document my community as I see it and connect between its past and present while developing a conversation with its future.
