We thought you might like to know what we’ll miss and you’ll enjoy about our home and neighborhood. We apologize for being a bit long-winded, but there’s a lot to love. We enjoy gathering with friends, and the easy flow from the living room through the dining room to the spacious, open kitchen and breakfast area makes entertaining a breeze. In chilly weather, we’ve appreciated the cozy fireplaces in both the living room and master bedroom. When it’s warmer, we’ve enjoyed relaxing on the screened porch just outside our bedroom. We’ll definitely miss the storage this home provides! The numerous closets are good-sized and there’s even a space for small children to hide or play in the second pantry/hideaway near the first-floor stairs. We used the room next to the garage for bike storage and ping-pong. But it’s easy to imagine it as an artist’s studio or writer’s retreat, or even an exercise or yoga studio. We’ve spent many evenings with friends enjoying a glass of wine and a casual meal on the patio of our walled rear garden. We’ll miss the varied species of birds that fed at our feeders—bluebirds, wrens, finches, cardinals, and nuthatches, to name a few. A pair of nesting bluebirds is at home right now in their house next to the driveway. Our Little Free Library—easy to maintain and a great way to meet book lovers. We’ll definitely miss our neighbors! Our neighborhood is one of the best in Charlotte for meeting and making friends with people of all ages, for becoming engaged and included. You’ll be gaining a community as well as a new home. Hillside Avenue itself is an exceptionally family-friendly street with several fun traditions: Almost everyone participates in the yearly display of Christmas lights and balls suspended in the trees along the entire length of the street. People and families from all over Charlotte drive down the street, both to enjoy the magical display and to contribute either funds or canned goods for the benefit of Loaves and Fishes. We’re happy to give our collection of Christmas balls to the next owner. On Halloween, several blocks are closed to traffic as both adults and children enjoy costume contests and a potluck dinner. Various neighbors join forces to sponsor occasional progressive dinners that are well organized and well attended. The Greenway Gazette, a hyper-local newspaper produced by local children and teens. Little Sugar Creek Greenway, just down the hill, is a lovely nature trail for bikers and walkers that extends north past Uptown and will eventually extend to the border with South Carolina. Wing Haven Garden and Bird Sanctuary on Ridgeway. If you haven’t been, it’s a real treat. Excellent shopping and a variety of good restaurants, just a few blocks away at both Park Road Shopping Center and at Selwyn and Colony.
