Repeater signs may be required RISK ASSESSMENT Look at Pedestrians  Have I made the site safe to work in and for the general public  Consider both safe routes and the standards of fencing/barriers needed to protect pedestrians from risks from inside the work space  Is there a high level of pedestrian traffic – consider users of pushchairs, wheelchairs and mobility scooters.  Are there significant numbers of people with reduced mobility or walking difficulties (who may have problems with steps, cable protectors, or uneven surfaces), or blind and partially sighted people  Are there many children around – consider nearby schools, parks, playgrounds etc.  Are there other pedestrian risks, such as people leaving pubs/clubs, sports matches or events  Are there any nearby hospitals, surgeries, residential homes, elderly bungalows / aged miners homes etc.

Look at Traffic  Is the intended type of traffic control appropriate for the prevailing traffic flow – What about high volumes of traffic and the number of heavy or large vehicles passing  What is the speed limit, and does a significant amount of traffic appear to be travelling faster than the speed limit  How much visibility do approaching road users have – consider bends, crests of hills, trees and bushes, parked vehicles.  What is the speed limit, and does a significant amount of traffic appear to be travelling faster than the speed limit  Are there many cyclists passing through your work site? Are there any cycle lanes affected by your works?

Works are totally on footway with vehicle parked safely Site Permit Definition = Footway Works (Providing minimum width for two way traffic)  All works are being carried out in footway  Pedestrians do not have minimum of 1m width of clear existing footway  No alternative can be found  Erect Footway Ahead Closed signs in suitable location (adjacent to existing crossing point) Do this from both directions  Erect Footway Closed signs at the obstruction. Do this from both directions
