Savages Lose 19 -0 In Opener Bud D ire
G aining as m uch as Jam estow n both in air and on the ground and piling up tw ice the num ber of first downs, the Savages never theless took a 19-0 lickin g. The team showed p len ty of offensive power in line bucking, good run nin g and accurate passing. The fum bles and blocked punts and goal line nervousness are w hat caused the Savage defeat. T w o blocked punts in the general area of the D ickinson ten y a rd line and a fum ble on the 30 le ft the Savages p layin g w ith their backs against their own goal and set up Jam estow n’s scores.

Savages W in Homecoming Game W ith a gallant fourth quarter de fensive stand the Savages defeated Spearfish 8 to 6 in the local home com ing game. The game was domi nated by the little prairie hurricane w hich blew across the field from west to east and kept the ball on the east side of the field the whole game. N either team scored against the wind.
Savages W in at W ahpeton The D STC Savages journeyed to W ahpeton where they edged W ahpe ton 20 to 12 in the first out-of-to w n game of the season. The School of Science led 12 to 0 before the Savages could score on a pass from C h arging to F latz. Am sden’s k ick was good. In the third quarter C h arging intercepted a pass and sprinted all the w ay for a touchdown. Am sden’s toe was again good for the extra point. W ith less than two m inutes left the Savages added insurance to their m argin on a pass from B illy A nner to Pudge B eau doin to end the game w ith a 20 to 12 score. On the gloomy side, big Don Johns ton, tackle, suffered an injured ankle which kept him out of most of the season’s games.

Spearfish scored first from the one yard line on a handoff and they failed to m ake the extra point. Dickinson i • i i i scored next in the second quarter when C huck W ilz broke through and block ed a k ick giving the Savages 2 points w hich later proved to be the w inning m argin. The other ta lly in the game came in the third quarter when D ickinson’s C h arging w ent back to throw a pass and, being unable to spot a receiver, tw isted his w ay back through the whole Spearfish defense; evading ta c k ier after tackier to m ark up the w in ning score. From this point on it was D ickin son’s solid defense that held Spearfish u n til the final gun was fired.

In a game w hich opened w ith two touchdowns being scored on the first 5 plays, Ellendale N orm al showed a surge of power in the second h alf to beat the Savages 19-9.
The Savages h it p ay d irt three times in the last h alf of the M ayville game to run up a 24 to 12 score against M ay ville. The teams were deadlocked at the half 6 to 6. The Savages first T .D . was made by Bud Dire when he crashed his w ay from the ten yard line to score.
Ellendale ran the opening k ick -o ff 100 yards back for the 1st T-D. Four plays later C harging passed to Krogh for the Savages first counter. Amsden added the extra point m aking the score 7 to 7. Dickinson caught the Ellendale punt in the end zone adding two more points m aking it 9 to 7 at h alf tim e.
In the third quarter Charging broke lose on a 40 yard gallop to put the Savages ahead. Then a pass from Beaudoin to Krogh gave the Savages a temporary lead although M ayville also score in the third quarter.

M inot squeezed past the Savages in a game slowed down by numerous penalties. The local’s v irtu a lly dropped out of the race for the conference crow n by going down before loop leading M inot Beavers by a score of 13 to 7 after p layin g them to a first h alf scoreless tie. M inot scored first, early in the third quarter, on a 63 yard run. They scored again a few m intues later, but failed to m ake the extra point m aking the score 13 to 0. A fter several tries the Savages fin al ly shook C harging loose on two plays to advance the ball to the 15 yard line from w hich C harging scored on the next play.
The D ST C Savages ran up a 33 to 6 victo ry against the Bottineau School of Forestry to w in their second con ference gam e of the season.* The Savages had a little trouble gettin g started in the first quarter u n til C h arging threw a pass to F latz to start the scoring. Then C h arging passed to Krogh who scooted for a touchdown. Bottineau then scored but the Savages bounced right back to count w ith another pass from Beaudoin to C harging. Bud Dire counted another in the third quarter and Red Reinbold closed the game w ith a score in the fin al canto.
D uring the rest o f the game, the ball see-sawed back and forth with neither team threatening again.

Savages Trounce Eastern The Savages in their fin al game p ut everyth in g that they had all year together (a smashing, flashing offense and a stubborn ground defense) and still rem em bering the upset from the year before, whipped Billings N orm al 41 to 7. The Savages struck hard and early. On the third p lay of the contest, C h arging w ent around end to canter 61 yards for a touchdown. In the second period, Krogh intercepted a pass and ran 70 yards to hit p lay d irt, ending the first h alf 13 to 0. In the third period the Savages scored again b ut this one was a long hard m arch down the field. C h arging fin ally swept around end for another counter. The fourth score was set up by another K rogh-interception and C h arging going through the m iddle of the line from 13 yards out. Late in the fourth quarter Freshman Bob Scott took the ball on his own 27 and was sprung into the open to score again for the Savages. Ju st before the gun w ent o ff, B illy A nner passed to C harging to chalk up six more points.
