The Dickinson State University Blue Hawks continued their dom ination of the N.D.C.A.C. in '87, Led by coach Hank Biesot, the Hawks co m p le te d another und e fe a ted season. While winning every regular season gam e, the Hawks also produced three All-Americans, Pete Stanton, Todd Middleton, and Paul Chapman. Combined with supportive fans and g re a t cheerleaders, the Hawks enjoyed another successful year.

The 1987 Football Cheerleaders worked hard during the season. The girls enjoyed cheering for a NAIA Divi­ sion II #1 tea m and had a g re at time cheering as a squad. They felt very honored to represent DSU.

DSU MAT-MAIDS The 1988 wrestling season was a busy one for the Dickinson State University Mat-Maids. The m at-m aids w ere in charge of keeping stats and organizing wrestling tournaments as well as cheering on the DSU wrestling team . The mat-maids sold concessions a t wrestling tournaments and basketball games to raise money for nationals in Ta­ coma, Washington. Enough m oney was raised to help finance their trip.

The play, under the direc­ tion o f Jean Waldera, showed the struggles and fears of bring­ ing education to a small tow n in Wales. The role of Morgan Evans was shared b efw e e n tw o actors which m ade each perform ance have a noted difference.

The Dickinson State University Theatre De­ partm ent's production of "W aiting For G o­ d o t," was staged on January 29, 30, and 31, 1988. The play ce n te re d on tw o men, Vladimir and Estragon, and their w ait for Mr. G odot. Under the direction of Peter Mellem, the cast included Dr. John Ballard, Don Ehli, Kevin Thomas, Julee Lundberg, Lynn Walker, and serving as assistant director was Cor­ nelia Taylor.

HLLTOP HOLIDAY 1988

The 33rd annual Hilltop Holiday was held in Stickney A uditorium , M arch 1988., under the direction o f Barb Gress o f Richardton, North Dakota. The Production Crew for Hilltop-88 included: Kevin McLouth - Assistant Direc­ tor and Music Director, Jeff Lundberg - Technical Di­ re c to r, H arvey Tibor Sound Design, Jim Keller Set Design, and Julee Lundberg and Gaylen Kovash - Choreographers. The them e for Hilltop-88 was "Beach Party." The production was ce ntered around fun in the sun and included singing, dancing and bands of a beach p ar­ ty.

This years Homecoming C om m ittee displayed exceptional ability in putting on the traditional hom ecom ing parade. The Dickinson National Guard turned a fe w heads with multiple rounds of blanks being fired in salute to the braves and princesses. Every year the co m m itte e devotes hours of time in organizing the week's events and judging them, half time activities and the T-shirt slogen which stated "Blue Hawk Country, Beware."

This years North Dakota Country-W estern Jam boree was the 19th annual, DSU students and Faculty work hard each year to contribute to a successful show. Audition and perform ance judges perhaps have the toughest job picking the winners and runners-up. Audition judges include the following: Marv Allen, KBMR radio personality, Joyce Holter-Collins, Member of the Prairie Station Band, song writer and publisher, Don Simonson, previous m em ber of various Country bands. Performance Judges are the following: Tammy Gistad, past Jam boree chairperson, and education coordinator a t Home on the Range for Boys, Steve Zimmerman, past member of "C abin Still" and "G reasegun and the Zerks" bands, and V ocational Agriculture/FFA a t Towner High School, and Jenny Zeller, First pla ce winner last year for the Female Vocalist and First overall in the Country-W estern Jam boree in 1987. She is also a m em ber of the "C ountry C actus" band.

THE PRESIDENT AND THE STATE BOARD OF HIGHER EDUCATION Seventy years ago, in 1918, this university first opened its doors Thirty-three students clim bed the stairs of the Elks Building ir d ow ntow n Dickinson to b ecom e the first class to enroll a t thi: institution, That was a humble beginning but to d a y the traditior lives on in you. A cadem ic Year 1987-88 has been one of the most exciting and productive periods in the 70-year proud history of this unique institution. Progressive, innovative and expanding, Dickinsor State has b eco m e one of the finest institutions of higher learning in the United States. DSU is not ye t nationally known, but ou superb faculty, which holds terminal degrees from prestigiou: universities from the U.S. and abroad, has inevitably a ttra c te d c wider circle of students who spread the word about the highquality education they receive. As w e have grown in reputation so to o has our enrollment increased. This year w e have had the highest enrollment in recent history, continuing the annua grow th w e have experienced in the last decade. W e enjoyed highly successful academ ic, cultural, and athletic programs this year. You the students, DSU's living spirit, continuec to a d d your enthusiasm, your energy, and your intellect to mak ing this an exciting place to teach, to learn, and to grow.
