The Volleyball Program a t Dickinson State is in the nurturing stages yet, W e are building trom season to season and are definitely headed in the right direction, Recruiting is the key to a successful team and each year w e have improved and built on an already strong returning team . The overall season this year was a t times very successful, "Consistency in volleyball is Crucial", quotes C oach McDaniel, "A t times w e were very consistent, and then there w ere times when w e were not! We cam e close to winning some matches but when w e lost our concentration when it really counted. This will be a main goal for us next season." “ There were many areas where w e improved immensely this season. I d o n 't measure the success of our program on wins and losses a t this stage. Right now w e are rebuilding and I only look for more improvements next year, We established a solid core of returners, now w e need to a dd some depth to those positions . . . This will be the key."

The 1988 Football Cheerleaders were almost as busy as the Football players this season, as they were allowed to travel to the a w a y games with the team . The highlight even t for the squad was Flomecoming when they per form ed a d an ce routine to “ Looking For a New Love", by Jody W atley and an army chant skit. The 1988 Men's Basketball Cheerleading Squad consisted of four scared freshmen who didn't know w hat to expect. Although it was a big challenge, according to Debbie Kuy len, they were proud to be selected to cheer and support the team . The job of a m a t maid consists of many duties including; cheering for the wrestling team , making posters, keeping stats, and taping the guys before their matches. According to Cyndie Flamm, being a m at maid takes a lot of d e d ica tion. “ When you are in the room to g e th e r with the wrestlers, nothing m atters e x c e p t one com m on goal, wrestling to win." From Bottom to Top: Dawn Booke, Cyndie Hamm, Jon ette Balsam, Brenda W etsch, Missy Gable.

STUDENT SENATE

The 1988-89 school year was a busy time for the Student Senate. W e started in the beginning of the year going through the CSA Constitution, insuring th a t it was updated. W e took on many projects such as sponsoring a DSU Speech Team, a new check cashing policy for students, and sending a delegation to the State Capitol to participate in Higher Education Awareness Day. The Senate is m ade up o f students looking out for the best interests of the student body as a whole. Even though a t times it may seem w e are an insig nificant part of the University system, we were working hard to serve the students of Dickinson State University. Success is not new to the DSU Rodeo Team and this year is no exception. Tom Nelson, co ach of the team , reports that in addition to the success the tea m is experiencing as a whole, several tea m members are having outstanding success on an individual basis. Kris Lensegrav is leading the region in g o a t tying, Bobby W oodbury is dom inating In barrel racing, and Sindi Johnston, the other member o f the women's tea m and president of the Rodeo Club, was the women's allaround winner a t the rodeo held in Rapid City in January. On the men's team , Arlie Hulm is currently leading the region in calf roping and is also a strong co m p etito r in the team roping and bull dogging events. Darin G ood is leading in bull dogging and Greg Carlson is a strong contender in the calf roping event. Other members o f the men's tea m are Seth Weishaar, Troy Peterson, and Scott Thorson. Although each school is limited to a tea m o f 3 wom en and 6 men, other individuals are allowed to c o m p e te a t the college rodeos. Non-team members who are com peting from DSU this year are Nicole Staudinger, Sandy Carlson, Neilie Tibbs, Reed Kramer, Casey Olson, Todd Hall, Ty Lawlar, and W ade Marmon. These rodeoers can accum ulate individual points, but the points do not apply to the school's to ta l when calculating the team standing, The season will end the third week in June with the College National Finals Rodeo in Bozeman, Montana.
