Overview: Prarambh : co-crafting journeys Prarambh : co-crafting journeys , this years theme, aims to initiate new beginnings in field of craft. Prarambh in english means ‘to begin’ and with these activities we mark the beginning of new journeys, new paths, new relationships, new directions and various new ventures. The craft sector stands at a threshold today where there is a constant flux between the past and the present. Though the past is important and the present cannot be negated, we need to look forward to the future. With similar thought processes we would like to discuss various possibilities of initiating new beginnings and journeys. Prarambh: Co-crafting Journeys, is an attempt to initiate new collaborative journeys, where all of us together embark on new things within the field of craft. The National Craft Seminar, DICRC-CEPT Pavilion and Craft demonstrations titled - “Prarambh : co-crafting journeys” is a part of the seven day long, ‘National Craft Fair 2016’ from 17th to 23th January, 2016 at GMDC Grounds Ahmedabad organised by INDEXT-C, Government of Gujarat, India These activities are being conducted and organised by Design Innovation and Craft Resource Center (DICRC), CEPT University, Ahmedabad who is the Partner Institute for the National Craft Fair 2016. DICRC-CEPT Pavilion

National Craft Seminar 2016 The craftspeople across the country have demonstrated a remarkable understanding of materials which is combined with a mastery of the tools, techniques and processes that have evolved over the centuries. With various cultural, social, political and economic interactions, the craft landscape of Gujarat showcases the creative design abilities of the society. In the time today, the craft expanse consists of a huge resource which can be harnessed for the future development of our society. The seminar aims to mark a new beginning of co-crafting journeys which will help connect the knowledge of craft practices to new and future opportunities for the craftspeople across India. Focus Areas: Craft Design Innovations : The focus area discusses the need of bringing new innovations in the field of Craft as related to interior architecture and design.

It is important to make various people, society aware about the value of our rich craft traditions. One of the intentions of Design Innovation Craft Resource Center is Resource Building and Dissemination which aims at disseminating through various mediums like exhibitions, panels, online and print media. The intent is to reach out to people and make them aware of our rich legacy of crafts and also to share the work we do. The DICRC, CEPT Pavilion will showcase the extensive work done at Design Innovation and Craft Resource Center (DICRC), Faculty of Design at CEPT University, Ahmedabad. The exhibition will be centered on core focus areas of DICRC: Research and Documentation, Innovation and Development, Education and Training, Application and Collaboration. It will also exhibit the work done by students and faculty members at Faculty of Design, CEPT University.

Craft Demonstration Craft and E-commerce: The focus area discusses variety of opportunities available in the domain of e-commerce and online buying selling activities for the craft sector. Craft Knowledge and Education: The focus area discusses the importance of craft knowledge and its meaningful transfer from generations to generations. The craft processes play a critical role in development and understanding of a craft; hence the demonstration of techniques is taken as a first step in understanding the tactile aspects of craft. DICRC has arranged for bringing in craftspeople from Kutch, Gujarat and Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, for demonstration of crafts such as – terracotta craft and Gond art respectively. These craftspeople will show their craft skills through the live demonstration and display of their products. Crafts: Terracotta Craft Gond Art
