A TRIP IN NORMANDY, FRANCE This morning, we depart Paris and venture to the city of Rouen, the tragic site where Joan of Arc was burnt at the stake. Rouen, stretching beside the Seine, is Normandy’s cultured, historic, gastronomic, vibrant capital. Monet’s canvases of the cathedral have made it the best-loved building in town, but many other glories stand out, including fine museums and the church dedicated to tragic visitor Joan of Arc. Joan of Arc, is considered a heroine of France for her role during the Lancastrian phase of the Hundred Years’ War, and was canonized as a Roman Catholic saint.

Then We travel to the enchanting harbour town of Honfleur - its narrow lanes and colourful shopfronts have long attracted artists who have immortalised its beauty on canvas. Honfleur is a city in the department of Calvados, in northern France’s Normandy region. A City of Art and History situated at the mouth of the Seine, Honfleur immediately enchants the visitors by revealing its charming fishing and sailing port, its old picturesque narrow streets, and its old timber-framed or slatefronted houses. Arriving in Bayeux, a town on the Aure river in the Normandy region of northwestern France. We visit the Tapestry Museum and see the Bayeux Tapestry, it is a unique artefact of its kind depicting events before and during the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Bayeux Tapestry is an embroidery of wool yarn on woven linen, made in the 11th Century. It is 70 metres long and 50 centimetres high, and recounts the tale of the conquest of England on 14th October 1066, led by William the Conqueror, the Duke of Normandy. D-DAY LANDING BEACHES (OMAHA & JUNO BEACH) A full day Normandy D-Day Landing Beaches including Omaha Beach and Juno Beach. The D-Day Landings were the most vital part of the greater Operation Overlord to liberate Europe from years of German military occupation. Pay tribute to the brave souls who lost their lives and imagine the sense of terror and triumph felt the fateful day that Allied forces set foot on mainland Europe on the D-Day Landing Beaches of Omaha and Juno, two of five beaches of the Allied invasion of German-occupied France in the Normandy landings. Juno Beach was in the middle of the three British/Canadian invasion beaches which were attacked by the 2nd British Army. Omaha, the place after which Omaha Beach was named, is a little town at the river Missouri in Nebraska in the United States of America, The American troops that landed on D-Day did this on the two beaches situated to the far right hand side, seen from the allied point of view, called Utah and Omaha. Utah was the far right hand beach, left of it was Omaha Beach and Pointe du Hoc was situated in between those two American landing beaches. We stop for lunch in the seaside setting of Arromanches, once at the heart of the Normandy landings. Arromanches-les-Bains is a very moving place, in the midst of the D-Day beaches, you still get a strong sense of the huge effort involved in the Allied invasion to liberate France and the rest of Western Europe. Later, we’ll visit the poignant D-Day Museum. The D-day Museum overlooks the very spot where one of the Mulberry Harbours was constructed and where its remains can still be seen today. Then we’ll go to the bunkers and Rangers Memorial at La Pointe du Hoc, that during World War II, it was the highest point between Utah Beach to the west and Omaha Beach to the east.

CIDER FARM VISIT & GASTRONOMIC NORMAN FEAST A drive through the Norman countryside takes us to a family-run cider farm, where we’ll visit and taste the local tipple. French and Normandy gastronomy are given the place of honour in Rouen every day, but even more so during two big events like Fête du Ventre Festival and the Festival of Gastronomy. A genuine picture postcard of Normandy, the Cider Route takes you to the heart of the Pays d’Auge to discover cider, calvados and pommeau producers in a setting adorned with apple orchards and half-timbered houses. Imagine sitting on a terrace 22m above the ground, watching the windmills turning on the rolling hills of the Pays d’Auge. Lower Normandy’s Pays d’Auge is home to the mellow meadows of the wellsignposted (with an apple) Route du Cidre, or Cider Route, the only one of its kind in France, where cider and calvados producers in half-timbered manors are happy to show you how the magic is wrought. Then, we’re off to a Farmhouse Inn for a Norman feast. Normandy’s culinary heritage is one that’s well worth exploring, here you’ll find succulent seafood, robust duck and game dishes and the region’s famous apples that are turned into a whole range of tasty stuff from cider to tarts with drinks included!

MONT ST. MICHEL ISLAND This morning, travel to the fortified island town of Mont St. Michel. Le Mont-SaintMichel is an island and mainland commune in Normandy, France. The island is located about one kilometer off the country’s northwestern coast, at the mouth of the Couesnon River near Avranches and is 7 hectares in area. A magical island topped by a gravity-defying medieval monastery, the Mont-Saint-Michel counts among France’s most stunning sights and for centuries one of Europe’s major pilgrimage destinations.

Here we’ll join a Local Specialist for a tour of Mont St. Michel’s medieval Benedictine Abbey or Fontgombault Abbey. The Abbey of Notre-Dame de Fontgombault is a Benedictine monastery of the Solesmes Congregation located in Fontgombault in the département of Indre, in the province of Berry, France. Legend has it, the abbey was built after the Archangel Michael appeared to the Bishop of Avranches inspiring him to build a church atop the island. The Abbey was turned into a prison during the days of the French Revolution and Empire and needed to be restored before the end of the 19th century. Consider also an optional experience to the historic walled port city of Saint-Malo, a port city in Brittany, in France’s northwest. And once the home of Jacques Cartier, a Breton explorer who claimed what is now Canada for France. Jacques Cartier was the first European to describe and map the Gulf of Saint Lawrence and the shores of the Saint Lawrence

The city of the “corsairs”, a coastal capital and the jewel of the Emerald Coast, SaintMalo has always been the scene of great adventures throughout its long history. A place of history and legends, and the birthplace of illustrious historical characters, the town has, despite its occasionally somber past, managed to preserve its authentic atmosphere, characterised by ramparts, cobbled streets and old stone buildings. Châteaubriant is also situated in the historical and cultural region of Brittany, and it is the capital of the Pays de la Mée. Brittany, also been referred to as Less, Lesser or Little Britain, it is bordered by the English Channel to the north, the Celtic Sea and the Atlantic Ocean to the west, and the Bay of Biscay to the south. Its lengthy, rugged coastline is dotted with beach resorts such as chic Dinard and walled Saint-Malo, built on rock in the English Channel. IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF LEONARDO DA VINCI Visit the Manor house and gardens where Leonardo da Vinci spent his last years, preserved much as he left them on his death almost 500 years ago. Your guided tour culminates in a display of Leonardo’s most extraordinary inventions - from submarines to helicopters. Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci, more commonly Leonardo da Vinci or simply Leonardo, was an Italian polymath of the Renaissance, whose areas of interest included invention, painting, sculpting, architecture, science, music, mathematics, engineering, literature, anatomy, geology, astronomy, botany, writing, history, and cartography. He has been variously called the father of paleontology, ichnology, and architecture, and is widely considered one of the greatest painters of all time. Sometimes credited with the inventions of the parachute, helicopter and tank, he epitomised the Renaissance humanist ideal. He spent his final days in Amboise, Loire Valley where under the patronage of Francis I, he continued to engage in architectural and engineering projects. This 15th-century manor house was bought in 1854 by the Saint Bris family and over the past 50 years has been steadily developed into one of the most atmospheric Leonardo museums. Most rooms, including the bedroom where he is presumed to have died, have been restored and furnished in Renaissance style.

Captivated by a wondrous forest, you will discover extraordinary architecture imagined by François I and imbued with the spirit of Leonardo da Vinci. When you visit Chambord, over a few hours you will explore half a millennium of French history. The Loire Valley, is located in the middle stretch of the Loire River in central France, in both the administrative regions Pays de la Loire and Centre-Val de Loire. PARIS ILLUMINATIONS AND SEINE CRUISE Paris at night is a city transformed. Enjoy this superb ‘City of Light’ on a leisurely cruise along the River Seine. The River Seine, is an important commercial waterway within the Paris Basin in the north of France. It rises at Source-Seine, 30 kilometres northwest of Dijon in northeastern France in the Langres plateau, flowing through Paris and into the English Channel at Le Havre. It is one of Europe’s great historic rivers, and its drainage network carries most of the French inland waterway traffic. The fertile centre of its basin in the Île-de-France was the cradle of the French monarchy and the nucleus of the expanding nation-state and is still its heartland and metropolitan region. The River Seine has always been a major transport means. However, it was also a vital supply of water that attracted men since the Neolithic. Glide down the River Seine past fabulous monuments ablaze against the night sky. Pass under the shadows of romantic bridges while music serenades you. Afterwards, as we drive through this amazing city, we’ll stop at some vantage points for you to capture the fascinating sights on camera. In summer, this trip may take place before sunset.
