LET’S START As part of the prevention and training campaigns for drivers, the Municipality of Lanús offers us a series of tips to manage rainy days and thus avoid accidents.

• The Municipality of Lanús aims to inform, educate and educate drivers by offering advice that can help them avoid accidents. In this sense, and continuing with its prevention and road safety education campaign, it recommends taking a series of measures when driving a vehicle under adverse weather conditions. • Driving in the rain usually increases the risk factors of causing an accident. Asphalt becomes slippery and water on the windshield affects visibility. In these conditions, it is very important to be focused and pay attention to the rest of the drivers and pedestrians. • Under these conditions, we must avoid driving, but if we are already on the road, it may be useful to stop in a safe place until the water intensity decreases. In case we should continue, these are some of the tips to avoid the risks of an accident with often fatal consequences. 3
When driving in the rain, it is important that we avoid sudden movements and not invade the side rails, as we could easily lose control of the vehicle. To brake, we must do it gently and with short steps, so as not to block the direction. In dry pavement, it is highly recommended to slow down at least half of what is allowed. And if we go through a flooded area and feel that the car is sliding on the water, we should not press the brake or turn the steering wheel sharply, it is better to decelerate and keep the direction straight.

• Also, we must pay close attention to the signs and indications beyond reducing the speed and turning on the lights. We must bear in mind that the direction of a vehicle depends on the friction between the covers and the surface of the ground. The slots of the covers are designed to evacuate the water that could be between the pavement and its surface, increasing friction and ensuring control of the vehicle. When the cover finds more water than it is capable of dislodging, the pressure decreases the friction, so we must keep the tires with the corresponding inflation pressure and since their decrease will worsen the conditions. • It is important that when the rain is very abundant, slow down especially on fast roads such as roads and highways. We must also be very attentive to the rear view mirrors and avoid the lanes that have tracks produced by the collapse of the pavement • Likewise, keeping the windscreen wiper blades in good condition replacing them periodically is something that will help us conserve visibility. Paying attention on rainy days and extreme security measures can help save lives.
