For this project, we initially had to select a poem, and from this poem, develop a concept which would then be applied to the design program of a writer’s retreat. I chose Theodore Roethke because his style of writing was really visual. The poem itself is a bit dark, but the reason poetry worked so well was because it was mostly relating to what he was going through in his life and he used this writing as a way of self-search and finding his true self. The site is actually the Albuquerque volcanoes. I know that the volcanoes are sacred to native Americans’ and that nothing can be built over them, but for this project, I felt there was a connection to Roethke’s poetry do to its isolation from the city.
Concept duality between opposing sides sealed off from the world to persue self-exploration exposure/coming to a conclusion and finding the true self

The Digital Library consists of research and the idea of file sharing. Research into the site, San Francisco, South of Market District, influenced it by providing the current trends in technological development on file sharing services. Programmatically, it is responding to technology, file sharing, and the public. Integrating file sharing services and research technology, public access was created. Further distillation of file sharing service investigation manifested in the legal aspects revolving around this matter. It fits into the city by the social condition and developing tensions with research and the roll technology plays in it. Formally, it is functioning to promote sharing information digitally with everyone and anyone. By combining legal forms of sharing and the technology to do it, a new type of opportunity is produced, which allows the access of information to the public.

The Location for this site was San Francisco, South of Market District. What I found interesting about this location was how there was a mix of identity between South of Market District and the Financial District. Another aspect was the amount of technology companies located around this area, mainly some file sharing services. Knowing that our program was a library, I began to research about how a library allows access of information to the public vs how other companies and 3rd parties allow it, mainly digitally, and all the legal issues revolving these matters

DENS IF IC AT IO N
This design had to reflect a previous project which involved defining what an ecotone was, and determining what the city needed vs what it wanted.
CORE
Located at the urban core of the city of Albuquerque, the proposal suggest the redevelopment of the Civic Plaza, which has already gone through four redevelopments trying to get the public more engaged to this site. The opportunity we saw in this site was to design a mixed-use / mixed income development. This idea came about after seeing that the Civic Plaza isn’t really used by the public, mainly only utilized for main events during the summer. With the opening of 4th Street and the idea of activating the edge condition of this space, it showed that this proposed design would densify the city’s urban core.

This project was developed as a proposal to NMSA School for the Arts located in Santa Fe, New Mexico. We had to propose a high school facility that would meet the demands of the client, while at the same time, make it engaging for the students that would be attending. We started off with a group projects, in which everyone brought in their own piece of ideas into the project and develop a master plan. After the group master plan, we were to further develop the master plan in our own ways and chose an aspect of the design and further develop it. It was really important to engage users to the site, but for my portion, I was designing “The Gateway for the school in which it would exhibit part of their dance program to newcomers.
