“Look at the school they claim to sponsor at the township, Raeleng Secondary School. The school doesn’t have facilities but other schools in town are in good condition,” said the man, who preferred to remain anonymous. Sam Rammutla, the manager at Forever Resorts, did not comment on the situation.
Guests at Forever Resorts in Bela-Bela were left without life guards or service as most of the personnel went on strike at the entrance of the resort. More than 50 personnel working in different departments, who are members of Ucimeshawu, went on a protest alleging that the management is “taking them for a ride”. Local church in Bela-Bela helps the needy

Light of Africa invites community to netball tournament Justin Steyn Light of Africa, a non-profit organization (NPO) has invited netball clubs in and around Bela-Bela to take part in a netball tournament that will start on Saturday, 24 October and will be running for approximately a month. “We will hold a Netball tournament and we are inviting clubs from Rapotokwane, Pienaarsrivier and Tsakane to register and take part in our planned tournament,” said the NGO’s project coordinator Josias Ramalekana. Ramalekana has previously said that the organization is in the process of establishing teams for various sports in Bela-Bela, the first of which is aimed at focusing on netball.
A volunteer displayed the sanitary towels before handing them over to beneficiaries. Photo: Lizzy Bapela Lizzy Bapela A Bela-Bela Pastor, Tsholo Modise, felt that it was high time that he plough back to the community in the area where he was raised by contributing to their well-being. The pastor and his church, Go Forward Ministries, partnered with Word of the Nations Church, also from Bela-Bela, to host an event on Saturday, 26 September to officially hand over donations to the needy. He said that they intended to lend a helping hand to people from disadvantaged backgrounds who cannot afford basic needs such as food. At least 50 community members were identified to receive food parcels, while girl children from needy families received sanitary towels. The churches also gave clothes to as many community members as they could. All these efforts were made possible through the efforts of members and
He said that they have managed to register five groups in Bela-Bela, but would like to have more clubs and their teams registered before the tournament starts. Ramalekana said that the organization is focused at luring the youth of Bela-Bela from drug and alcohol abuse and looking at ways to improve the town’s sports fields. “Many of the sports fields are dilapidated and ruined,” he said. “We are planning to reopen and upgrade these facilities in the next few months.” According to Ramalekana, the response from the community’s sports council has been positive, and they are excited to tackle the project head-on. Clubs and teams interested in getting involved with the tournament can contact Ramalekana on 083 425 3999
Word of the Nations Church’ Senior Pastor Phineas Khumalo displayed some of the parcels that were to be donated. Photo: Lizzy Bapela leadership of both churches. People from different organisations and ordinary community members witnessed the good deeds by the churches. Senior Pastor at the church Phineas Khumalo said that the issue of families that are child headed and those depending on social grants is really a concern and they saw a need to step in and help where they can. He added that the gathering was to spend the day with the identified beneficiaries and show them that the God that they pray opens doors that no one cannot open and is there for everyone even in times of need. Pastor Khumalo further said that bringing the churches together to hand over the donations was to allow each and every church member to be involved in the charity drive and pledge their support. He added that unemployment and poverty stricken communities need all the help they can get.

DA helps Raeleng School female learners Lizzy Bapela Members of the Democratic Alliance from the national, provincial, district and local offices recently visited Raeleng Secondary School recently to donate toiletries and reusable sanitary towels to female learners. The visit was conducted as part of the DA’s ongoing campaign to ensure that female learners remain in school even during their menstrual days. The main concern is that girl learners miss about 55 days of school because they are too embarrassed to go while they are menstruating, or simply cannot afford sanitary towels. The event was held under the theme “Women are the real architects of society”, a quote from an American musician known as Cher. The DA’s Deputy Federal Chairperson Desiree van der Walt and national spokesperson Refilwe N’tseke led dignitaries from various provincial legislatures and local and district municipalities at the event, with parents and school management and governing body also in attendance. Raeleng’s Grade 8 to 11 learners received motivational talks from different speakers; and goodie hampers among others which included the sanitary towels which last for five years. In his welcome address, Raeleng principal Joseph Mashishi highlighted that the school is a public venue for all organisations who need to hold their gatherings, especially

The learners were treated to some goodie hampers after the event. Photo: Lizzy Bapela those involving the learners. He added that it does not matter what organisation, department or political party. Only the message for the children, he says, is important. Member of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature and Shadow Minister on Women Denise Robinson outlined the role
of the DA’s Women’s Network (DAWN), addressing the learners on what it means to be a woman and roles and responsibilities women have in their communities. N’tseke addressed them on education and life in women’s world, bullying at school and the National School Nutrition Programme, encouraging them never to be
ashamed of being poor. She also quoted the late president Nelson Mandela when he said that “education is the most powerful weapon one can use to change the world”, adding that girls need to get proper education to better their lives and that of their loved ones and communities. She also spoke about children who are living in places of safety, saying that the places do not often provide the girls with all they need including emotional support. Meanwhile, Sue Barnes of Project Dignity addressed the learners on the “Keep a girl in school” programme, giving out presents during her interaction with them. She taught them about puberty, menstruation and sex. The learners showed off their talents and rendered poems in line with Women’s Month and the role that president Mandela played in women’s lives. All the speakers acknowledged the teachers and the school management team for their efforts in making sure that the learners acquire relevant skills to better their future and stay focused on their studies. Van der Walt acknowledged one of the DA councillors David Senosha’s invite to visit the school. Senosha expressed concern on the way that some parts of life or natural problems affect the lives of girls, some of whom are forced to stay out of school during their time of the month, and thought that they needed assistance. He added that learners from disadvantaged family backgrounds need some sort of assistance to also be made to feel normal and welcomed in the society. Matilda van der Merwe assisted with some of the hampers that were distributed to the learners, adding items that are a necessity to girl children.

Photo: Mzamane Ringane Mzamane Ringane The New Age Organization in Modimolle is happy with the success of the second edition of their annual Mr and Miss Primary Schools contest. The event was held at the Peter Nchabaleng Community Hall on 12 September, with learners from all five primary schools given a chance to compete. Philanda Machaba was crowned Miss Primary Schools 2015, while Nono Mohlala and Martina Baloyi were crowned first and second princesses respectively. In the boys’ category Itumeleng Magwaza won the Mr Primary Schools 2015 title, while Tebogo Tolo took the first prince title. William Molekoa also made it to the top three when he snatched the second prince title. The audience chose Pontsho Makama and Mmabatho Kekana as their two favourite contestants, in the viewers’ choice category. Event organiser and founder of New Age Organisation Edward Masingi said they are planning a
bigger and better event for the year 2016. “Three local schools namely Modimolle Primary School, Hector Peterson Primary School and Dagbreek Primary School participated in this year’s contest. Lekkerbreek Primary School and Maokeng Primary Schools did not respond to our invitation. We intend to also invite other primary schools in Mabatleng and Mabaleng and other parts of Modimolle for our 2016 competition”, he said. New Age is a community based organization that works with the children and youth of Modimolle. Masingi said their aim is to prevent the spread of HIV/ AIDS, TB, and STI’s amongst the youth. Masingi said they also aim to eradicate crime by creating programmes for the youth in the area. “The main purpose of the event was to give the young people the platform to display their talent and potential. We know that some of these young people will be models in the future, but it
has to start somewhere. That is why we are building a foundation for these young people”, Masingi continued. “I extend gratitude to Councillor Ace Mashaba, Modimolle Primary School, Dagbreek Primary School, Hector Peterson Primary School, educators Edmond Mangwato, Ediel Mokoka, Mangwedi Phala, Riah Seboneo, the Judges, Our MC Lesley Nkanyane, recording artist Rebecca, the contestants, parents and community,” he concluded. Mookgophong Constituency office hosts sports day event Lizzy Bapela
Young people of Mookgophong came out in their numbers to attend the Constituency Office’s sports day event. Photo: Lizzy Bapela
The ANC Constituency office in Mookgophong recently held a sports day event at the local stadium in order to crown top three teams in netball and top six in soccer. Constituency office administrator Wesani Sithole said that the event was held as part of the constituency outreach program to get young men and women participating in the two sports. He added that they also aimed at reviving the spirit of sports among young people in area, as many end up losing interest due to a lack of facilities, which is a waste of talent. Six teams participated in the soccer tournament, namely Tigers FC, Blackpool FC, Wits FC, Cosmos FC, Shela Stars FC and Stone Breakers FC. In soccer, Tigers FC emerged victorious and walked away with a soccer jersey and gold medals. Stone Breakers FC came
second and won a soccer ball and silver medals. The third position went to Wits FC, who received bronze medals. Meanwhile, in netball, Tigers’ team took the winners’ crown and received seven bibs and gold medals, while BJ Stars came out second and received silver medals. Stone Breakers’ netball team got position 3 and received certificates for participation. Players and coaches from all the losing teams and referees received certificates as a means of appreciation for their participation in the tournament. In his closing remarks, another constituency office administrator Solly Chego emphasised that the office acknowledges the importance of sports and the role it plays in young people’s lives and the tournament will hosted annually in September. He also thanks the hundreds that attended the first ever event, remarking that it was a great support, considering that it was just a start up.

Modimolle hosts bike spinning contest Mzamane Ringane In an arguably first-of-its-kind competition around Modimolle, or perhaps the entire Waterberg region, bicycle spinners from around the area contested for prizes at the local Phagameng Sports Ground on Saturday, 3 October. Members of two local groups, namely Limpopo VW Club and Modimolle BMX Crew, showcased their rare skills of spinning bicycles in front of cheering spectators. The competition was organised by athlete Junior Moatshe in partnership with local resident Mosima Mahapa. Entrepreneur Happy Motshegoa who is the founder of a school uniform manufacturing company DESTMOTSH, also contributed by providing a gazebo and banners on the day. bicycle broke while he was performing his stunts. Michael Morudu who is also from the same group took advantage of the situation and impressed the judges. Morudu was voted as the winner of the day, with Ledwaba claiming the second spot after his bike was fixed. Tebogo Theledi of Limpopo VW Club
claimed the third spot, with Thabo Sepoloane emerging as the overall winner in the under-15 category. Sepoloane did not compete with anyone as he was the only one in that age category. Competition organiser Junior Moatshe said they saw these young boys spinning their bicycle in the streets, and thought it would be great if they bring them together by organising
a contest. He said they will be hosting this competition on an annual basis, and further highlighted that they would like to expand to other areas of the Waterberg should they have sponsors. Moatshe said they are planning another similar event, which will be held in December this year. Mosima Mahapa who was working closely with Moatshe in organising this event, said she is delighted that the inaugural contest went so well. She said she hopes that the next edition of the competition will be bigger, especially if they can get assistance from the business community and other sectors. Entrepreneur Happy Motshegoa said he was touched by this initiative, which is why he decided to be part of the event. He said he believes that this competition will motivate those young boys to focus on positive things in life, and to also help them stay away from destructive activities.
