Elephant Day Care Where the elephants don’t work for us, WE work for them!

Elephants World

is a non-profit-organization in Kanchanaburi province that functions as a “retirement home for elephants that have been working for humans before either in the logging industry or entertaining tourists at camps and circuses or begging in the streets of the big cities.

Elephants World Foundation gives the

symbol of Thailand a peaceful life in a natural surrounding, preparing food for their elephants, feeding them, washing them - and you can be a part of it!

Elephants in logging industry

In the past, elephants in Thailand were used for logging in the forests, because they can reach areas even machines can not. The government prohibited this practice in 1989, which resulted in a loss of ‘jobs’ for many elephants and their mahouts (elephant caretakers)

Elephants in the tourism industry

Many of those now unemployed mahouts and elephants started working in Thailand's growing tourism industry. They went begging for food and money in the big cities like Bangkok or work in circuses to entertain tourists. When the elephant gets too old and weak to work, the owner often wants to get rid of him, as he can no longer afford to pay for food to feed the animal.

Elephants World takes care of old

and sick elephants, and also attempts to rescue young elephants before they enter a life of begging on streets or working in circuses.

Elephants World was founded by

veterinarian Dr. Samart Prasitthiphon in 2008. Since then Thai staff, international volunteers, and the mahouts work together to give their elephants a peaceful, happy life.
