Shore Excursions We know that your ports of call have highlights that must be included in any shore excursion program, and we will include those core programs when submitting a formal proposal. What we hope to achieve in the pages that follow is to let you know we are always thinking of new and innovative tours and tour elements, to provide you and your guests with content that is a little bit different. We all know that can be a difficult task, but even something as simple as arriving at Bangkok's Grand Palace by long tail boat rather than motor coach can add zest to an itinerary. These tours are samples; we will work with you to customize your shore excursions using whatever combinations are the best fit for your overall program and timings.

THAILAND

Thailand THAILAND has something special to offer everyone. Whether it’s the Buddhist temples with their gilded spires, peaceful courtyards, and spiritual atmosphere; the shimmering silk fabrics and glistening gemstones; the powdery white-sands of the fantasy islands of the south; the ancient customs of the hill-tribe inhabitants of the northern forests; the fragrant and fiery Thai cuisine with its array of exhilarating flavors; or the gentleness of a people whose good looks melt easily into warm smiles; there is no escaping the fact that Thailand exerts an enormous amount of charm over every visitor that cannot be matched by any other realm on earth. Visually the country ranks amongst the world’s most breathtaking destinations. Beyond the chaotic capital city are seemingly limitless vistas of mountains, rivers, and beaches. Shopping is one of the most popular and rewarding pastimes for visitors. The choice of local products is truly amazing, and includes gemstones and jewelry, silk and cotton fabrics, and all kinds of ethnic handicrafts. This kingdom rich in culture, tradition, natural beauty, and modern comforts, is awaiting your arrival.

Bangkok

Bangkok is possibly the world’s most vibrant capital. Rich in history, with a vivid local culture, superlative shopping, world-class restaurants, and dynamic day and nightlife, it is certainly one of Asia's most cosmopolitan cities, with something for everyone. It is truly a national treasure house, and Thailand's spiritual, cultural, political, commercial, educational, and diplomatic center. Bangkok’s city life, in the fast lane, is contrasted by the serene back streets and canals that are lined with colorful communities and enchanting temples. The peaceful Buddhist religion practiced by over 90% of the Thai people makes Bangkok one of the safest cities in the world to visit. Rivaled only by Chiang Mai in the north, Bangkok is a shopper's paradise with everything from designer-brand luxury items (and, of course, fakes) to original handicrafts, antiques, silk, and exquisite jewels. There is much to see, much to do, and much that is unique. Pamper yourself with a traditional Thai massage and cheer at a crowded Thai boxing match. Savor the subtle flavors of the local cuisine and inhale the heady scent of temple incense. Enjoy a traditional performance of Thai music and dance or listen to a concert of classics performed by the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra. Bangkok is truly a feast for the senses.

THE GRAND PALACE & LIFE ALONG THE CHAO PHRAYA RIVER The Grand Palace was the seat not only of the king and his court, but contained within its crenellated walls the entire government administration. The architecture is vibrantly Thai though there are some European designs as well. Brilliantly colored and gilded, and decorated with intricate detail, the overall effect is dazzling. The palace served as the official residence of the kings of Thailand from the 18th to the mid-20th century. The most famous building on the palace grounds is Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha), regarded as the most sacred Buddhist temple (wat) in Thailand. Construction of the temple began when King Rama I moved the capital from Thonburi to Bangkok in 1785. Unlike other Thai temples, it does not contain living quarters for monks; rather, it has only the richly decorated holy buildings, statues, and pagodas. The main temple building is the central ubosoth, which houses the Emerald Buddha. Though green in color, the Buddha is actually carved from a single piece of jade, and though only 17 inches tall, is the most revered object in Thailand. Also within the grounds are several palaces, used for various occasions: the Funeral Palace, Reception Palace, Throne Hall, Coronation Hall, and the Royal Guest House. The majority of halls and palaces can be viewed from outside only, but the exteriors are captivating enough to please. After a guided visit of the grounds, a leisurely walk of about 2 blocks brings you to the majestic Chao Phraya River, where you will embark on a converted rice barge to cross the river to the Supatra Riverhouse restaurant for lunch. After lunch, board a long-tail boat to explore the sights along Chao Phraya River. During the 1-hour trip you will get a glimpse of the serene and simple lifestyle of riverbank dwellers. A stop will be made to visit Wat Arun (Temple of the Dawn), one of Bangkok's best-known landmarks. The trip ends at River City, with a motorcoach transfer back to the pier. Fast facts: Tour duration from/to Laem Chabang pier: Tour duration from/to Klong Toey pier: Included:

BANGKOK BEHIND THE SCENES Travel by motorcoach to Taksin Bridge, to board a taxi boat for a tour of the klongs (canals) of Thonburi, a less developed section of Bangkok across the river from the business hubs and tourist sights, where these small waterways still exist. Klongs used to be the main arteries of the city, but on the Bangkok side most have now been filled in. Disembark at Memorial Bridge for a guided walking tour through the flower and wet market of Paklong Talad. Here you will find a dazzling display of tropical orchids, flowers grown in the cooler northern regions of the country, and an amazing variety of vegetables and tropical fruits for sale. Next is an exhilarating tuk tuk (auto rickshaw) ride through Bangkok's vibrant Chinatown district. Here you’ll enjoy the unique experience of a Chinese Dim Sum restaurant. Typically large and noisy, this type of eating establishment requires a bit of customer participation. Trays stacked with steamer baskets and a variety of other containers travel from table to table. Take a peek at what’s on offer and indicate which dishes you want. Don’t get carried away at the first opportunity - the food will keep coming, and you’ll want to evaluate all your options. Be adventurous - absorb the atmosphere and try some of the local delicacies. Option 1: After lunch return to the pier OR Option 2: Continue with a guided walking tour of Chinatown’s Pahurat Market, located more or less in the heart of “Little India”. This is the place to shop for fabrics, clothing, and wedding keepsakes. In Thailand, it is customary for guests at a wedding reception to receive a small memento of the occasion. Along Pahurat road numerous shops sell these gifts by the dozen in hundreds of varieties. Fast facts: Tour duration from/to Klong Toey Cruise pier:

JIM THOMPSON – HIS HOME, HIS ART, HIS SILK One of the best examples of traditional Thai residential architecture, and a breathtaking collection of Southeast Asian art, are showcased in a klong-side house built by James H.W. Thompson, a self-made American entrepreneur who was the founder of the world renowned Jim Thompson Thai Silk Company. Thompson's achievements during his 25-year stay in the Kingdom have won him much fame as the "Legendary American of Thailand". For his contribution to the development of the Thai Silk industry, Thompson was awarded the Order of the White Elephant, a decoration bestowed upon foreigners for having rendered exceptional service to Thailand. His success story and subsequent disappearance has become one of the most popular postwar legends of Asia. In 1967, Jim Thompson went on holiday with friends to the Cameron Highlands of Malaysia. There he set out for a walk in the surrounding jungle and never returned. No trace of him was ever found. The house consists of a complex of six traditional Thai-style houses, teak structures that were purchased from several owners and brought to the present location from various parts of Thailand. The main house tastefully displays Asian art and curios, including Buddha images, paintings, ceramics, and antique furniture. The living areas have been preserved as they were when Thompson lived there. You will travel from the pier by van or motorcoach, for a guided tour of the house and art collection. Then, to complete the picture, you will view the exquisite fabrics the Jim Thompson Silk Company still produces during a visit to their flagship store on Suriwong Road. The vast array of magnificent textiles is a pleasure to behold, even if you do not wish to shop. For those who do the possibilities run the gamut from exquisite silk upholstery and drapery fabrics to grace your home, to totes, travelers toiletry and jewelry bags for your next trip, or that special scarf or necktie as a souvenir gift for your loved ones back home! Then a short ride by tuk tuk, the local version of a motorized tricycle, takes you to Ruen Urai, another Thai House, one that belonged to an herbal practitioner during the reign of King Rama V. The house recently was lovingly restored to its original glory, and now serves exquisite Thai cuisine in a beautiful setting. The chef has created a special lunch menu for you, that combines the many flavors and textures for which Thai cuisine has become famous around the world. AYUTTHAYA - THE OLD CAPITAL

Wat Chai Wattanaram

At the height of its power and influence, Ayutthaya was a majestic city of three palaces and 400 temples. It rivaled European cities of the time in splendor and riches as a result of its exports of rice, animal skins, and ivory. Originally built by in 1350 by King U-Tong, it was the Thai capital for 417 years, ruled by 33 kings of 5 dynasties until it was completely destroyed by the Burmese in 1767. While the city itself no longer exists, many ruins and art works remain to be seen, which is why Ayutthaya has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The many temples are a mix of styles, including tall ornate prangs (spires) in ancient Khmer (Cambodian) style, and pointed stupas or chedis in the style of Sukhothai, an even older Thai capital. You will visit some of the most important sights, beginning with Wat Chai Wattanaram, a Khmer style temple built in 1630 by King Prasat Thong to commemorate his victory over the Khmers and to celebrate his coronation.

Wat Yai Chaimongkhol

The richness of the Ayutthaya site merits viewing it from more than one perspective. This you shall do from the back of an elephant during a 15minute ride. Next on the list of what’s wat is Wat Yai Chai Mongkhol; the chedi at this monastery is among the largest in Ayutthaya and was built for monks who had returned from a period of study in Ceylon. There are many Buddha images, including a large reclining Buddha. Lunch will be served at a delightful local resort in a lovely garden setting. Then continue by coach to Wat Phananchoeng, a monastery that predates Ayutthaya. The principal Buddha image is 62 feet high, and made of gilded stucco. After snapping some photos, you will board motorized long-tail boats for the trip to Bang-Pa-In, a former royal summer residence, which consists of several mainly European style buildings in a park-like setting around an ornamental pond. In the center of the pond is an elegant Thai pavilion, brightly colored, with a traditional floating roof with soaring finials. It is called The Divine Seat of Personal Freedom. The tour ends with a motorcoach transfer back to the pier.

A MORNING AT THE PARK Often called the “lungs of the city” for its cleansing green presence, Lumpini Park occupies 140 acres in the main business district. It was Bangkok’s first public park, a gift from King Rama VI, given to his people in 1925. Lumpini Park houses the city's first public library, a dance hall, a senior citizens club, and a sports club where swimming and ballroom dancing are taught. In the winter, the park becomes the site for the annual Concert in the Park festival, featuring classical music by the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra and other bands. Most of the “action”, however, takes place between 7:00 and 8:00 every morning, when people are practicing their Tai Chi, Qi Gong, yoga, jogging, ballroom dance, Thai dance, and martial arts. This is a great opportunity to get up close and personal with the Thai people as you observe the activities, or even better, participate in one of the morning Qi Gong exercises. Weekends and public holidays are the busiest days, when thousands gather for a morning constitutional, while Mondays tend to be the most quiet (street vendors are not allowed to set up their stalls on Mondays, which might be responsible for the lower numbers). You’ll have to get up early, but you’ll feel better for the effort. Your guides will meet you at pier and accompany you in small groups to Lumpini Park, where you can participate in a 50-minute Tai Chi or Qi Gong exercise, or take a leisurely walk and just contemplate the goings on. Keep your eyes open for the large lizards at the lakeside and notice how everyone comes to a standstill when the national anthem is played over loudspeakers in honor of the king at 8:00 am. Then transfer back to your ship for a refreshing shower and breakfast. For those wanting to experience more of the local flavor (literally), your guide will accompany you to a nearby restaurant for a traditional Thai breakfast, consisting of rice or noodle soup, Chinese doughnuts, and Thai coffee or tea. Fast facts: Tour duration from/to Klong Toey pier: Included:

3 hours (with breakfast) or 4 hours (without breakfast) Roundtrip transportation from the pier Services of licensed English-speaking guides Bottled drinking water Refreshing towel Local breakfast (optional)

WHAT’S COOKING? Thai people love to eat. When Thais meet, their standard greeting translates to something along the lines of: "Where are you going?" and "have you already eaten?" Thai food, now hugely popular around the world, is actually not difficult to make, but one needs to understand the correct mix of ingredients and combination of tastes. Depart your ship by van for the River City pier, to embark on a chartered taxiboat and venture along the bustling Chao Phraya River and into the network of canals in Bangkok’s residential Thonburi district. Keep your camera ready for some awesome snapshots of local life along the river! The boat trip ends at a lovely Thai home, where you will be greeted with an herbal welcome drink on the terrace. Then it is time for your cooking lesson, covering popular Thai dishes, such as Khang Keaw Wan Gai (Green Curry Chicken) and Khao Man Somtam (Coconut Rice with Papaya Salad). Classes are hands-on, encouraging you to practice the cooking techniques yourself, rather than just watching a demonstration. You’ll have an explanation of Thai cuisine and the dishes you will be preparing, before a walk through the herb garden to pick fresh ingredients for your dishes. The chef will then present a cooking demonstration and provide samples for you to taste. Then you will be guided through the recipes step by step as you create a finished product at your personal cooking station. Finally, taste and enjoy the fruits of your labors in the waterside garden or the Thai style pavilion. After lunch say goodbye, and return to the pier. ON BOARD ACTIVITIES

We believe the flow of an itinerary is enhanced by bringing the destinations on board. This gives guests the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of the cultures they encounter ashore, and adds variety to your shipboard programs. Diethelm Travel would be pleased to assist you in finding artists, craftsmen, and other specialists who could offer these activities while at sea, ideally between two ports in the same country. In Thailand fruit and vegetable carving and Thai folk dancing are just two examples among many possibilities. Vietnam, Malaysia, and the other countries in which we operate have much to offer in this regard.

VIETNAM

Vietnam VIETNAM is a verdant tapestry of soaring mountains, fertile deltas, sinuous rivers, otherworldly rock formations, and stunning coastlines dotted with beautiful beaches. Beyond its natural beauty, the curious and open-minded visitor will find a feast of culture and history, a drive for modern development, and a highly dynamic and hard working population. Three decades have passed since Vietnam was officially united, and in that time it has done a remarkable job of healing its wounds. Today, this gracious and graceful country is an outstanding travel destination with a population eager to welcome visitors. The modern Vietnam is made up of three unique regions, each with its own distinctive style, terrain, and cultural attractions, reflecting a very rich and diversified history. The North, formerly known as “Tonkin”, reflects a Chinese occupation of over 1,000 years, and boasts the distinctive Hanoi city, once capital of French Indochina, and the spectacular topography of Halong Bay, dotted with islets, bizarre rock formations, and grottos. The middle section, “Annam”, contains the mysterious remains of the once powerful Cham civilization, as well as two World Heritage sites: the former Imperial capital of Hue with its impressive forbidden city, and the atmospheric former trading post of Hoi An, mingling cultures and adventurers from all corners of the world. The South, once “Cochin-China”, was influenced by long lasting exchanges with its Khmer neighbors, and is the home of the “nine dragons”, the network of tributaries that funnel the Mekong River into the South China Sea. Vietnam is a country in motion, rich in culture, tradition, natural resources, and modern comforts that waits to welcome you.

Ho Chi Minh City

This astonishing city, full of vitality, was the original “Pearl of the Orient”. Along the old Rue Catinat and in the surrounding boulevards stand the relics of empire and revolution: Notre Dame Cathedral, the Opera House, the Post Office and the Reunification Palace. This city is undergoing rapid change with growing numbers of gleaming skyscrapers, lively bars and a booming economy all under the watchful gaze of “Uncle Ho”, whose statue stands proudly outside the old Hotel De Ville. There is still plenty of local charm here – soup sellers ring their chimes to signify a freshly made lunch, fortune-tellers read palms, and the temples fill with incense – but the choice of restaurants is outstanding and the city also boasts some classy boutiques selling lacquer ware, silk, and modern art. Tucked in the suburbs of the city, Cholon’s Chinatown market is arguably the best example outside China. Nearby are the infamous Cu Chi Tunnels, a network of over 250 kilometres of secret underground passages used by the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War. Please note that though the official name of the city is now Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), the old name of Saigon is still prevalent, and the two are used pretty much interchangeably.

REMEMBERING OLD SAIGON Vietnam’s economic hub, today’s Ho Chi Minh City is a rapidly developing, modern city, but it retains the echoes of its past, and glimpses of an intriguing history can be found around every corner. Visit the former Presidential Palace, now a historic landmark and renamed Reunification Hall. In April 1975 a tank of the North Vietnamese Army rammed the main gate, and the South Vietnamese government was overthrown. You will tour the building and delve into its fascinating history. Then travel by cyclo (pedicab) to the nearby Central Post Office and Notre Dame Cathedral. You might see one of the city’s young couples having their wedding photographs taken in front of the red brick basilica. The cathedral is based on the Paris model and dates back to French colonial times. When Vietnam was part of French Indochina, it was Gustave Eiffel who built the Central Post Office, which is known as one of the most beautiful post offices in the world. As in days gone by you may have the opportunity to observe an elderly gentleman writing letters for those who aren’t able to write themselves. Your cyclo continues into the city center for a view of the bustling streets and boulevards, and the façade of the famous Ben Thanh Market. Then you’ll head to a local restaurant to discover the mouth- watering aromas and savor the flavors of Vietnamese cuisine, with a traditional and authentic Vietnamese lunch. A highlight of the day will be a visit to the Truc Mai House, where you will have tea with musicians Mr. Linh and Mrs. Mai. They will provide an introduction to traditional Vietnamese instruments and music, and you will have an opportunity to try your hand at playing along. TAY NINH & THE CU CHI TUNNELS Hop on board your motor coach for a ride through the countryside to Tay Ninh Province, near the border with Cambodia. Tay Ninh is the center of the Cao Dai religion in Vietnam, founded in 1926 in an effort to unite all humanity and to promote peace and understanding in the world. Cao Dais believe there is one Supreme Being whom people worship in many ways, and they are accepting of all the world’s major religions. Adherents engage in ethical practices such as prayer, veneration of ancestors, non-violence, and vegetarianism, with the minimum goal of rejoining God the Father in Heaven, and the ultimate goal of freedom from the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth. In this all-inclusive faith Buddha sits atop a five-tier pantheon, and saints include Shakespeare, Victor Hugo, Jesus, Mohammed, Moses, Joan of Arc, Louis Pasteur, Sun Yat Sen, and Vietnamese poet Trang Trinh. Colorful Cao Dai temples have a fairytale quality to them. You will observe the noon mass and the worshippers in their long white tunics. After the service, continue to a nearby restaurant for lunch, before heading to the famous invisible world of Cu Chi. This impressive complex of tunnels was been built during the Vietnam War by the NLF to enable them to live and move about unseen. At the time, the tunnel system was home to hundreds of soldiers; it comprised kitchens, hospitals, and all the facilities needed in order to survive underground. After visiting the open-air museum and learning about daily life inside the tunnels, you will have the opportunity to experience a short passage for yourself. ACROSS THE RIVER AND INTO THE TREES Today you travel the way the locals do. Drive by motor coach from your ship to Bach Dang Pier in Ho Chi Minh City center, then continue by local ferry to the Thu Thiem District, a lush, green pocket just across the Saigon River. Though technically a part of the city, it has the feel of a quiet rural district and moves to a slower beat. Stroll along small streets observing the morning activities. Take a Daihatsu, a hybrid means of transportation that nothing to do with fuel consumption; it is part bus, part taxi, and part truck. It will take you on a short drive along an undeveloped stretch of land that is in striking contrast to the rapid development of the city. Stop en route for a short visit to the Dong Hung Pagoda, one of the oldest pagodas in the district, though built only 70 years ago. Take a walk along the riverside - a great opportunity to get in touch with the local people and their way of life. Back on the ferry, you’ll watch as the modern city skyline comes into view, and you’ll disembark into the bustle of modern HCMC. Enjoy lunch in a Chinese specialty restaurant before continuing to China Town, or Cho Lon, literally the “big market’. Here you will visit the Thien Hau Pagoda. Thien Hau is the goddess of seafarers, traders, and fishermen – a fortuitous visit for those traveling by sea. It is richly decorated, and massive coils of incense hang from the rafters like chandeliers. Then see the city from a distinctly different viewpoint on a cyclo ride. The cyclo (pedicab), used as a taxi over short distances, is still a popular and inexpensive means of transportation. After your ride return to the pier.

Fast facts:

After lunch head to Chinatown or Cho Lon – literally the “big market”. You will immediately recognize the scent of traditional Chinese medicine throughout the busy streets of this part of the city. Visit the Giac Lam Pagoda – with its adjacent Buddhist monastery. With a bit of luck you might meet a calligrapher, who will inscribe on paper your name, some good wishes or whatever else you may request.

GOOD MORNING SAIGON You will be well rewarded for the discomforts of a 6 am departure, as you discover the awakening city in its various aspects. Join in Tai Chi with the local people at the park on Le Lai Street. This practice is found throughout East Asia, and originated in ancient China. Both a physical and mental exercise, it can only be seen in the very early morning before the city begins to bustle, and its inhabitants embark on their daily routines. Markets are also most interesting in the morning, and you will have the opportunity to see merchants opening for business, selling fish, meat, vegetables, fruit, and flowers in the famous Ben Thanh Market. This is a typical “wet market”, so named because of the water sloshed across the floor at intervals to keep things clean. Continue your discoveries with a behind the scenes visit to the Thu Thiem District. Travel by local ferry to the lush green area across the Saigon River, which is surprisingly rural in appearance. Stroll along small streets and observe the local life and morning activities. Pass a school, the local market, and many shops where the owners are preparing for the new day. You’ll leave with a totally new impression of Ho Chi Minh City. Take the ferry back to the city side where you’ll enjoy Vietnam’s most famous food, Pho, (a rice noodle soup with beef) for breakfast along with a glass of traditional Vietnamese Coffee. Return to your ship at about 9:30 am, with plenty of time for a full day of exploration.

You will dine at one of the finest, Nam Kha, where a reflecting pool in the middle of the restaurant is flanked by gold-leaf pillars. Enjoy savory Vietnamese cuisine in this elegant setting. After dinner it’s time for an evening stroll along Dong Khoi, the former Rue Catinat, to the Opera House, one of the landmarks of the city, built in 1897 by French architect, Ferret Eugene. At a nearby park stop for photos of the statue of “Uncle Ho”, the former president of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh. HIDDEN TRAILS OF KUALA LUMPUR To many Kuala Lumpur brings to mind 21st century skyscrapers, and busy, modern city avenues. Today you will venture behind the forest of high-rises to visit streets where the traditions of this multi-ethnic culture are most in evidence. Starting from a typical Malay village, Kampung Baru, stroll down side streets where Malaysian-style food stalls sprout like mushrooms. Marvel at the contrast of small Malay houses against the backdrop of the famous twin Petronas Towers and other tall buildings that stand in its shadow. Stop at one of the stands and try some local Malay sweets or cakes. Venture through the Chow Kit wet market, where housewives and hawkers haggle over prices. Here Chinese, Malay, and Indian traders set up their booths to sell poultry, meat, seafood, flowers, and fruit. Then walk through Little India, with its glittering jewelry and colorful sari shops. Stop to see the beautiful Masjid Jamek, the city’s oldest mosque. Then it’s on to Chinatown, where you will visit a Chinese (Buddhist) temple and Indian (Hindu) temple. A stop at the National Museum will help you see how these various cultures and religions have come together to live in harmony. Awaken your appetite with a visit to the traditional Chinese Tea House for a cup or two, before heading to the Precious Old China restaurant for lunch. FOREST AND CAVE ADVENTURE Malaysia’s forests are not only of skyscrapers; in fact it is one of the best places in the world to experience exotic flora and fauna in a pristine environment. The tropical climate provides the perfect medium for the proliferation of species, and this tour provides a unique opportunity for nature lovers and those looking for activity in the great outdoors. Just 10 miles northwest of Kuala Lumpur, surrounded by the Bukit Legong Forest Reserve, lies the 1500-acre Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM). FRIM’s nature trails, shady park-like arboretums, and wetland areas are a delight to explore. A highlight (for the physically fit) is the nature trail leading to the Canopy Walkway, a system of bridges and platforms that are an excellent location from which to experience a panoramic view of the forest, and even see the city in the distance. From this vantage point scientists study the canopy flora and fauna. A variety of treks of different lengths and levels of difficulty will be offered. These will be led by park rangers with a wealth of knowledge who will be able to point out the most interesting and exotic species. After all that exercise, you’ll be ready for a delicious picnic and a rest, before heading for the nearby Batu Caves. The Batu Caves are a famous Hindu place of worship, and consist of three main caves and a number of smaller ones. They were discovered in 1878 by the intrepid American naturalist, William Hornaday, who noticed a strange odor. Intrigued, he followed it to a towering limestone ridge, and continued up the cliff face. There he was awestruck by the size of a massive cavern, and described his find: “We found ourselves in a grand cathedral”. Later Hindu devotees began making pilgrimages to the caves, clambering up the jagged rocks to what has become a temple cave. If you wish to follow their example, you may climb to the temple at the top of the hill. As you marvel at this geological wonder, remember that this is a place of worship and respect those around you devoted to prayer.

Fast facts:

Those who do not wish to climb may enter smaller caves on ground level, exploring the cavernous art with elaborate wall paintings and beautiful sculptures. When the climbers return, you will all experience the Indian folk dances normally performed by villagers on special occasions. The dances are dedicated to a pantheon of gods and goddesses in return for their blessings and protection.
