This is the most luxurious way of seeing the remarkable sights of Myanmar, beginning with a stay at the colonial era Belmond Governor’s Residence in Yangon before flying up to Mandalay and boarding Belmond Road to Mandalay. Sail down to Bagan, with its plain of extraordinary temples, and then travel to the immense Inle Lake. Journey’s end is at Yangon. Day 1 Arrive at Belmond Governor’s Residence in Yangon. Enjoy the sights of the colonial city centre before visiting the massive golden Shwedagon Pagoda, set on the hill overlooking Yangon. View the sunset from the pagoda before returning to the hotel for dinner.
Day 3 Visit Sagaing with its many Buddhist temples and monasteries, famous for its traditional silversmiths. The ship gets underway mid-morning, and begins its journey south. Relax on board, observing the river life from the top deck. Day 4 Arrive at Bagan where over 2,000 temples and pagodas are scattered across an immense plain. Visit some of the most important temples with an expert guide. After lunch there is the choice of rejoining the guide or hiring a bicycle or horse-drawn cart for personal exploration. View sunset over the plain, then return to the ship for dinner and a comfortable sleep in your cosy private cabin.

Day 5 A full day of sightseeing at Bagan. Spend the night at Thiripyisaya Sanctuary Resort, with dinner served at the hotel. There is a premium option today of a dawn flight by balloon over the temples of Bagan, available between October and March. Day 6 Take a domestic flight to Heho, and then take a boat to Inle Princess Resort, set on the calm waters of Inle Lake. In the afternoon, take a scenic boat ride across the lake, passing through the stilt village of Yawama to the ruins of Nyaung Ohak Pagoda. Dine and overnight at the hotel. Day 7 Visit the floating fruit and vegetable gardens. Option gourmet lunch on board a rice carrier boat that has been converted into a fully equipped restaurant. The afternoon is spent visiting Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, the holiest site in southern Shan State. Continue by boat to Nga Phe Kyaung Monastery before returning to the hotel for dinner and a tranquil night’s sleep.
Day 8 Fly back to Yangon and return to Belmond Governor’s Residence. The afternoon is for seeing the huge reclining Buddha image at Chauk Htat Gyi, and then for visiting the colonial era Bogyoke Market, famous for its handicrafts, before driving to the river and Botathaung Pagoda, revered for its Buddha relics. The wonders of Myanmar are explored with a luxurious cruise on Belmond Orcaella, disembarking at ports of great antiquity and spending the final two nights at the historic Belmond Governor’s Residence in Yangon. Day 1 Arrive Mandalay and transfer to Mandalay Hill Resort. Day 2 Board Belmond Orcaella and cruise on the Ayeyarwady River to Mingun. Enjoy dinner and a comfortable night’s sleep on board. Day 9 This afternoon transfer ashore to visit Gwechuang Fort, a tactically important site in the 19th century, followed by an ox-cart trip to see rural life along the banks of the Ayeyarwady. Dinner is on shore at Min Hla Fort, the site of a great battle during the 3rd Anglo-Burmese War. Day 10 A day afloat, with entertainment and a cooking demonstration, evening cocktails on a sandbank, dinner on board, and a movie on the observation deck. Day 11 Arrive at Bagan in time for a sunset tour of the Ananda Temple, followed by traditional entertainment. Day 12 A morning excursion to Bagan to visit the bustling Nyaung Oo market and then the Shwezigon Pagoda, followed by a choice in the afternoon of travelling to the sacred Mount Popa, or taking a private horse and cart or bicycle tour. Day 13 Transfer to Bagan airport for flight to Yangon, and check in to Belmond Governor’s Residence. The afternoon is for visiting the city’s colonial centre and the enormous golden Shwedagon Pagoda.

Explore exotic Bangkok before boarding the fabled Eastern & Oriental Express and settling into a luxurious private cabin. The train will stop at the Bridge on the River Kwai for more exploration, before moving on and crossing the border into Malaysia. Pausing for a visit to the island of Penang, the train then rolls gently down the Malaysian peninsula to Singapore. The journey can also be undertaken in the reverse direction. Day 1 Arrive in Bangkok. Check into fivestar hotel before enjoying a canal tour, followed by dinner. Day 2 Visit the ancient city of Ayutthaya, once the capital of Siam, and the royal summer palace at Bang Pa In. This brief excursion to the beautiful island of Koh Samui is long enough to enjoy a night at the secluded hideaway of Belmond Napasai, with its traditional Thai-style villas set within 17 acres of tropical beachside gardens, rich with cashew and coconut trees, hibiscus and bougainvillea. The resort has its own split-level beach, there are tennis courts available, and water sports including windsurfing and sailing. It all makes a perfect base from which to explore the wonders of Angthong Marine National Park. Day 1 Arrive at Samui Airport, regarded as one of the most beautiful airports in the world, to the warm greetings of a representative from Belmond Napasai. Transfer to the resort for relaxation and leisure time.
Day 2 Cruise amongst the islands of Angthong Marine National Park. Explore the hidden lagoons, the whitesand beaches, and the jungled interiors of tiny uninhabited islands. Don a snorkel mask to dip below the ocean surface at Koh Wao and discover an extraordinary, teeming world of colourful marine life. At Talay Nai there is an emerald-green salt lake, and for the energetic a scramble to the top of a steep hill for viewing Koh Wua Talap, the Island of the Sleeping Cow. From the lush riverside setting of Belmond La Résidence d’Angkor the magnificence of Angkor Wat and other temples that were at the heart of the Khmer Empire are waiting to be explored, while the markets and galleries of Siem Reap are within easy walking distance. DAY 1 Arrive at Belmond La Résidence d’Angkor, and enjoy a welcoming dinner. DAY 2 Breakfast at the hotel is followed by a visit to the ancient capital of Angkor Thom, and its magnificent South Gate with its huge statues depicting the Churning of the Sea of Milk. The exploration continues with Bayon and its 200 smiling faces, the recently reopened Baphuon, the Royal Enclosure, Phimeanakas, the Terrace of the Elephants, and the Terrace of the Leper King. Lunch is taken at La Résidence. The afternoon is devoted to the most famous of all the temples on the plain of Angkor: Angkor Wat. This 12th century masterpiece is considered to be the prime example of classical Khmer art and architecture. Enjoy the sunset at Angkor Wat, followed by dinner at a local restaurant.
DAY 3 Following breakfast at La Résidence, visit the brick sculptures of Prasat Kravan. Continue to East Mebon, guarded by stone figures of harnessed elephants, and then visit the fountain of Neak Pean, built on an artificial island in a pool that represents Anavatapta, a mythical lake in the Himalayas. From here journey on to Preah Khan, a place of towered enclosures and shoulderhugging corridors built by King Jayavarman VII. Lunch is enjoyed in the comfort of La Résidence. The afternoon is for visiting Ta Prohm, a temple that has been left relatively untouched since it was discovered, and which retains much of its mystery. Visits to the temples of Chau Say Tevoda and Thommanon complete the afternoon. Transfer to Siem Reap International Airport for the departure flight.

DAY 1 Arrive at Belmond La Résidence Phou Vao. A walking tour through the heritage district is followed by an easy clamber up Phousi Hill at sunset for an outstanding view over the city. DAY 2 A warm welcome waits at the Elephant Camp, followed by an elephant ride, and then a journey on a longboat to the Tad Sae Waterfall. Return to the Elephant Camp for lunch. The afternoon is spent examining the classic temple architecture of Vat Xieng Thong, and the equally renowned Vat Mai, its fivetiered roof representing the apogee of traditional Luang Prabang styling. An authentic Lao dinner with a cultural show at Roots and Leaves restaurant is followed by a visit to the Night Bazaar. DAY 3 Early morning alms giving to the monks is followed by breakfast at the hotel. A one-hour journey upriver by Belmond La Résidence Phou Vao’s own traditional boat to the Buddha
Caves will reveal a timeless rural world, the destination being Pak Ou, the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Ou rivers. In these two caves are displayed more than 5,000 sacred and centuriesold Buddha images and objects of pilgrimages during the Lao New Year festivities. A picnic lunch is served on the boat. During the afternoon there is a visit to the Traditional Arts & Ethnology Centre, a museum devoted to the ethnic cultures of Laos. View the sunset from Phousi Hill, followed by a stroll through the Night Bazaar, and dinner at L’Elephant restaurant. DAY 4 Tour the city this morning, with a visit to the Sri Lankan-style stupa at Vat Visoun, followed by a walk to the nearby Vat Aham, one of the city’s major tutelary shrines, and then to the Royal Funeral Chapel with its 12-metre high funeral chariot. End the morning with a drive to Ban Phanom, a weaving village populated by Thai Lu. Transfer to the airport for the departure flight.

Day 3 A one-hour journey upriver to the Buddha Caves at the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Ou rivers is followed by an afternoon visit to the Traditional Arts & Ethnology Centre.
Transfer to the airport to catch the flight to Siem Reap, checking in to Belmond La Residence d’Angkor.
Day 6 The morning begins with a visit to the brick sculptures of Prasat Kravan, and then on to Preah Khan before returning to enjoy lunch in the comfort of Belmond La Résidence d’Angkor. The afternoon is for visiting Ta Prohm, a temple that has been left relatively untouched since it was discovered, and which retains much of its mystery. Transfer to Siem Reap International Airport for the departure flight.
