Myanmar – Discover Hpa An and Mawlamyine
Anyone wanting to go off the beaten track should look no further than HPA AN AND MAWLAMYINE. This rarely visited region offers stunning natural scenery and is the gateway to Southern Myanmar. Mawlamyine can be reached by car from Yangon (300km) and best combined with a Golden Rock tour. Hpaan is 289 km southwest of Yangon. The surrounding area is littered with caves: Ba-Yint_nyi Cave (Monastery) famous monastery known for its natural hot springs and a cave up in the rocks full of Buddha statues. Kawh Goon Cave is by far the most interesting. The entrance is covered with hundreds of small Terracotta votive tablets which are plastered up to the ceiling – some tiny, some big.
Hpan is known for its scenic beauty, located on the edge of the Salween river and being surrounded by the lime stone formation rock sand mountains. Picturesque stops can be made in one of the smaller pagodas overlooking the river and the beautiful Zwekabin Mountain which is 2379 feet above sea level and the landmark of this small town. A boat trip on the Salween River to Mawlamyine is definitely the highlight of the trip: the tour takes 2 hours and runs though beautiful river scenery with hardly any other boats to be seen during the whole journey.

Myanmar – Discover Hpa An and Mawlamyine
MAWLAMYINE is the third largest city in Myanmar after Yangon and Mandalay. Formerly known as Moulmein, it was once a thriving teak port and the administrative capital of British Lower Burma. The town's signature landmark is Kyaikthanlan pagoda built in 875 AD. Mawlamyine is generally considered to be off the main tourist trail for most travellers to Myanmar but the town does have a charm of its own with its rich history, buildings with colonial style architecture, and its close proximity to the infamous Siam-Burma "death railway", making it a fascinating place to visit.
One still can see many . old colonial houses, churches and schools. The city used to be an important settlement in colonial times, and it is believed that the British mission started here. It makes it a pleasant town to walk through, enjoy the bustling market, and walk on the river side in the evening. The proximity to Thailand make Mawlamyine and interesting town today; the first air connection between Mae Sot and Mawlamyine started operation in October 2013 by Nok Air. Back to main page 22

Thailand – New Cycling Tours in Hua Hin – Family Friendly Great news for cyclists staying in Hua Hin – we have 4 new day tours; 2 suitable for families with children and 2 for more experienced riders. Full descriptions on our website. All day tours are accompanied by an support vehicle with fresh fruit, water, electrolytes, tool kit, and first aid support. The vehicle is never more than 3-4 minutes away. These 2 cycling trips are excellent for families and casual cyclists. The majority of the cycling is on flat tarmac ‘traffic free’ roads. There are no hill climbs plus there are many breaks in the ride to take in the scenery. BURMA TO THE BEACH – 3-4 HOURS CYCLING After a 1.5-hour transfer to the Burmese border and the narrowest point of Thailand, start cycling primarily downhill to the beach before heading through spectacular landscape of jagged limestone mountains and islands jutting from the sea along the coast. Lunch is on the beach at Lime Bay (Ao Manao) before cycling along the edge of hills stopping to feed gentle Dusky Langur Monkeys and ending by cycling along a beachfront road to Ao Noi.
DOLPHIN BAY AND KHAO KALOK This is a beautiful 22km (or longer) ride with fabulous beachfront cycling. If you want sun, sand, sea, and views ‘to die for’, this is the ride for you! Starting the trip at a picturesque cove near Pranburi, head to Dolphin Bay along a totally deserted road at the foot of the mountains. For the next hour it is mile after mile of beautiful seafront riding followed by through some fishing villages heading to Khao Kalok Bay for a Thai seafood lunch at a beachside restaurant. After lunch continue on to yet another stretch of beautiful beaches before returning home. 35

Thailand – General News
UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award for Cultural Heritage Conservation awarded to Wat Prayurawongsawas Worawihan (Wat Prayoon in short) last month. The temple is on the Thonburi side walking distance from the flower market by crossing Saphan Phut (Memorial Bridge). A visit to this quite unique and interesting Buddhist temple can be combined with visits to the Catholic Santa Cruz Church, the Chinese Kuan Kan Eng Shrine and Tonson Mosque – all within comfortable walking distance.
Major renovations are taking place on the Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn) stupa which could last as long as three years. For much of this time, the 81.85 meter high landmark will be covered by scaffolding. The renovations are only on the main stupa and some minor ones. The rest of the temple will be open as normal.

Vietnam – New Hotel Sapa - Sunny Mountain
SUNNY MOUNTAIN Hotel is an excellent addition to the Sapa hotel collection offering value and location.
At the time of writing there is some neighboring construction with the adjacent hotel adding more floors but the heavy construction work is finished.
We suggest to book the Deluxe Mountain View category, unless clients are very budget conscious in which case the superior garden-view room is recommended. A good selling point is that the hotel also has practical and comfortable family rooms with 1 Double and 3 single beds. The rooms are modern with all needed amenities and even have a small balcony facing the mountainside.
The Sunny Mountain Hotel can also assist us with organizing transfers, excursions and tours. They offer a discounted rate on rooms and meals when the whole package is booked with them. The hotel has access to a number of Frenchspeaking guides, which is often difficult in Sapa.
