EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Dear Friends, Thank you for joining us here at House of DIFFA: Circo Rouge. On behalf of DIFFA, we can’t express enough how much your support means to us and benefits our efforts to fight HIV/AIDS. Every person in the room tonight has made a significant contribution toward our mission to provide grants to hundreds of HIV/AIDS organizations across the country—and for that we’re grateful. House of DIFFA allows all gathered here to delight in the creativity of local and nationally renowned designers, and most importantly, raise funds for a critically important cause. While we have taken significant steps forward, we still have a long way to go in creating an AIDS-free generation. Your support tonight, and throughout the year, ensures that DIFFA/Dallas has the resources to grant funds to almost 20 organizations throughout North Texas. Most importantly, it enables our grantees to provide preventive education, treatment and direct care to hundreds of individuals who need it most. Tonight we celebrate our progress and recognize a dedicated group of honorees for their contribution and work in our efforts: the Donna Fischel Community Hero Award presented to Ralph Randall; Excellence in Design presented to Allan Knight; the Health Award to Dr. David Lee; the Legacy of Love Award presented to Neiman Marcus; and the Legend in the Fight Against AIDS Award presented to Darin Kunz

A special acknowledgment goes to the Headington Companies, along with its retailers and The Joule Hotel, and Nancy C. Rogers and Richard R. Rogers for their generosity and support tonight. Once again, thank you and we hope that you enjoy your time tonight at House of DIFFA: Circo Rouge. We have come so far in over three decades of this fight, and with you by our side we can win. With appreciation, Johanna Y. Osburn Executive Director, DIFFA

STATE OF HIV/AIDS
DR. JOHN T. CARLO Dear Friends, On behalf of the local HIV/AIDS service organizations and the patients and clients we serve, thank you for your support and attendance to this 26th Annual House of DIFFA Event. Your participation raises vital funds for local HIV/AIDS service organizations, and many of whom have been partners with this Dallas chapter of DIFFA since the beginning of the epidemic. By joining us tonight, you are part of this community standing up against this health crisis that has claimed over 34 million lives and seen over 60 million infections since 1981.
aged 15-24 in the last eight years. Communities of color remain disproportionately impacted, and we continue to see an important need for more HIV-related care for transgender women in this community. Dallas County continues to have the highest rate of new HIV infections, the highest rate of new cases of AIDS, and the highest per population number of people living with HIV in Texas. We remain at the epicenter of the U.S. epidemic as we bear both the troubling trends of increasing rates in the south, as well as in increasing infection transmission rates in urban areas.
We can celebrate an important milestone this year, for it was twenty years ago when we first observed a major turning point in our struggle against this disease. In July of 1996, the first report of effective treatment (called back then the “HIV cocktail”) became available. For the first time since the epidemic began, global leaders, scientists, medical providers, and patients collectively could share a sense of optimism. Deaths from HIV/ AIDS in the U.S. declined dramatically from over 50,000 in 1996 to just over 20,000 in 1998.
This is why today, more than ever, your participation in this evening’s event is so important. We are getting closer to achieving the goal which is to end AIDS in this generation. However, to get there from here, we all need to continue our commitments, thereby ensuring that we have the necessary resources to provide services and support for people living with and at risk for HIV in the greater Dallas area. Thank you for your continued support. Sincerely,
We can celebrate these victories, but our struggles are far from over, particularly here in North Texas. New infections in younger individuals are increasing at an alarming rate, doubling in persons John T. Carlo, MD, MS CEO, AIDS Arms, Inc. 24

DIFFA/DALLAS BOARD CHAIR
JUSTIN W. BUNDICK Trustees, Style Council, volunteers, and staff for the countless hours they have dedicated to DIFFA/Dallas this year. My service to this organization reminds me daily that to whom much is given, much is expected in return. It is more than a gospel verse which I was taught as a child, but rather a calling which was ingrained in me by my family through their generous support of others throughout my life. I am fortunate tonight to share this evening with my family and friends and I would like to thank them for their grace, love, and support in my journey with DIFFA/Dallas.
Welcome to House of DIFFA: Circo Rouge. On behalf of the DIFFA/Dallas Board of Trustees, the DIFFA/Dallas Style Council, our staff, and our hundreds of volunteers, I would like to thank you for your generous support of DIFFA/Dallas and the AIDS service organizations to whom we grant. It has been one of the greatest honors of my life to serve on the DIFFA/Dallas Board of Trustees and I am truly humbled to serve this year as DIFFA/Dallas Board Chair. I would like to thank our Board of

Over its thirty-two year history, DIFFA/ Dallas has grown into one of the largest and most successful fundraising organizations aiding HIV/AIDS direct-care services such education, transportation, housing, mental health and meal programs. Today, HIV infection is not a death sentence it once was. In fact, with the powerful medications now available, those diagnosed with HIV and in proper medical treatment can live with an undetectable amount of virus in their body which makes their ability to transmit the disease almost non-existent. Additionally, those in high-risk populations can take these same medications in preventative form and effectively block their ability to contract the disease.
However, I must remind us all of the significant challenges we as a society still face related to HIV/AIDS. According to the CDC, over 1.2 million individuals are living with HIV in the United States. Nearly 13% of those individuals do not even know they are infected, are not getting treated, and can unknowingly pass the virus to others. Even though infection rates have stabilized in the United States, nearly 50,000 individuals are infected with HIV every year. Unfortunately, North Texas has the highest infection rate in the State. In fact, nearly 1,000 North Texans will contract HIV this year alone. Nearly 250 of those infections will happen to our children under the age of 25. As a community, we must continue to focus on educating individuals on HIV and how to decrease the chances of contracting it; driving toward a goal of having all individuals tested for HIV; and maximizing the effectiveness of medications through meal, mental health, transportation, education, and housing programs. On behalf of the entire DIFFA/Dallas organization, I again thank you for your continued support. Have a wonderful evening. Justin W. Bundick

The relationship between DIFFA and the creative community exemplifies a collaborative effort towards a common goal – making an impact in the fight against HIV/AIDS. In this, my sixth and final year on the Board of Trustees, I am honored to chair House of DIFFA. The saying “it takes a village” is often used; however, the saying was never more true than when describing the production of this spectacular night of fundraising, Special thanks to my partner, Darin Kunz, who has not only put up with me, but worked beside me the last 6 years. Further special thanks has to be given to the production professionals that really make things happen at House of DIFFA. 2016 JACKET COLLECTION In collaboration with the design industries, DIFFA/ Dallas partnered with new and renowned designers to create a unique item to help raise funds for those living with or affected by HIV/AIDS. This is how the iconic DIFFA/Dallas denim jacket was started. Donated by Levi Strauss, denim jackets were provided to designers to construct a one-of-a-kind jacket with only one stipulation; the original denim jacket had to be part of the design. As trends come and go, DIFFA/Dallas retired the denim in 2012 and transitioned to a more modern jacket by introducing the Smoking Jacket Collection, paying tribute to the late designer, Yves Saint Laurent. It was at this time, DIFFA/Dallas allowed designers to have complete creative control and design unique tailored jackets or pull pieces straight off the runway.

Throughout the years, we have been honored to receive jackets donated from some of the most exclusive designers in the world including Saint Laurent, Jean Paul Gaultier, Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney, Versace, Escada, Altuzarra, Christian LaCroix, Oscar de la Renta and more. This year, you will find some spectacular creations by up and coming designers, as well as worldrenowned designers. Many of these elaborate pieces will become collector’s items and conversational pieces for years to come. We’d like to give a special thanks to Neiman Marcus for their collaboration in helping us curate 55 jackets this season. Through these donations and partnerships with the fashion and design industries, we have been even more powerful in our fight against HIV/AIDS.
