As Director of Events for DIFFA National, I have an all-encompassing appreciation for the wildly successful House of DIFFA event in Dallas! We can’t express enough how much we appreciate the generosity of supporters like you—individuals, companies and fashion leaders—who donate their time and talents to support our mission to fight HIV/AIDS. DIFFA has united with local communities for over 30 years to create inspiring and innovative events that showcase the talents of the fashion, design, and artist community. The funds you help raise tonight will make grants to AIDS Service Organizations who provide education, prevention services, care and support to those impacted by HIV. Last year, DIFFA and its chapters distributed more than $1 million dollars in grants helping thousands of individuals in North Texas and throughout the country. CARLO Dear Friends, Thanks to your support and the great work of the DIFFA Dallas Chapter, your community has made great strides towards addressing the HIV and AIDS epidemic here in North Texas. For now over 34 years, DIFFA has provided over $8 million to 25 front line HIV/AIDS Service Organizations, and on behalf of these great organizations, it is an honor and privilege to offer a most sincere thank you for your support and attendance to this year’s House of DIFFA, Alter Ego. These funds are absolutely vital to ensure access to life-saving treatments, support, and services for people living with HIV/AIDS today. While we may not hear as much about the epidemic today as in the past, your support remains absolutely critical towards ensuring we can continue to advance our collective efforts towards ending this crisis of HIV and AIDS, once and for all.

Many in North Texas have yet to be reached. Many still do not know that they are living with HIV, and many still are not able to access these new lifesaving medications.

Thankfully today we have incredibly safe and effective treatment for HIV. We tell our patients that they can expect to live a normal life when taking today’s HIV medications. Even more amazing, we now know that some HIV medications can be used to prevent an HIV infection altogether (PrEP), and we also recognize a new slogan, U=U, which means undetectable equals un-infectious. We are at a truly amazing time in terms of the tools we now have. However, the crisis has not ended.

OUR HISTORY One of the largest and most successful fundraising organizations aiding HIV/AIDS, DIFFA is a non-profit grant provider with chapters in Dallas, New York City, Chicago, Kansas City, San Francisco and Seattle. The Dallas chapter, formed in 1984, is the only HIV/AIDS organization in Texas that provides funding to local HIV/AIDS Service Organizations within our community. DIFFA/Dallas has granted more than $7.5 million to over 25 front line HIV/AIDS Service Organizations in North Texas providing direct care to those living with or affected by HIV/AIDS. Highlighting the design community, DIFFA/Dallas hosts multiple events throughout the season including Burgers & Burgundy, DIFFA/Dallas Wreath Collection and House of DIFFA. MEET KRISTEN Chatting with Kristen Cole, the new President and Chief Creative Officer of Forty Five Ten and Tenoversix

She’s an LA native who’s lived and worked on both coasts, but after calling Austin home the last three years, Kristen Cole has earned the right to a ten-gallon welcome. An art collector, yogi, and electric-car-driving mom of two, Cole is refreshingly down-to-earth. You’ll discover that for yourself when you catch her visiting one of the stores or grabbing a tea at Weekend Coffee. In the meantime, an intro…

How did you get started in the industry? I’ve been working in fashion nearly 20 years. My education started in New York City at NYU, followed by Parsons School of Design. I’ve worked on the creative side in fashion design, editorial styling, buying, interior design, creative direction… In 2008, my husband, Joe Cole, and I launched Tenoversix as the first concept shop of its kind in Los Angeles. We’re just about to hit our ten-year anniversary!

You’re joining Forty Five Ten at a time of huge growth. An e-com website is on the horizon, as well as the New York store in Hudson Yards coming in 2019. Ha! Yes, I’ve jumped onto a fast-moving train for sure. Strangely, I’m so clear on where we’re going that I’m not too stressed. Our e-com design is headed in an awesome direction and I’ve worked with two very talented architectural firms on the Hudson Yards store. The space is going to be a true experience.

What gets you most excited? My true loves are fashion, design, and art (and of course my sons and husband).

Forty Five Ten and Tenoversix share more than just names that feature numbers. How do you see them in relation to each other? I see them evolving as sister stores, i.e. the big sister to the little sister. Forty Five Ten is the space to curate an elevated mix of designer and luxury brands with a directional, edited approach. Tenoversix will continue to focus on emerging brands—the very early and raw talent across fashion and design—a laboratory for ideas and concepts.

Will you continue to live in Austin? What do find most intriguing or exciting about Dallas? Yes, but I’ll be spending more time in Dallas, and also in NYC with the Hudson Yards opening. I’ve spent a good deal of time in Dallas over the past five years. I love the energy of Dallas—the art scene, the collectors, the food… The people I’ve met are bold, smart, generous, passionate, and fashionable. What’s not to love? Want more? Young Professionals Program

Now in its third season, the DIFFA/Dallas Young Professionals Program is a passionate group of volunteers, between the ages of 20-35, consisting of influential individuals in the community from various professional backgrounds. The group enhances the initiatives of DIFFA/Dallas and local HIV/AIDS service organizations in addition to creating social networking and professional development opportunities for its members. Throughout the season these young supporters commit their time and talents to various hands-on service projects such as LifeWalk, AIDS Interfaith Networkâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s One Meal Matters, Bryanâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s House and the Resource Center. SPOTLIGHT:

CHRISTOPHER BAKER President, DIFFA/Dallas Young Professionals

“Welcome to my house,” is the typical greeting you’ll get from Christopher Baker at the senior living residence where he serves as Executive Director. Born in Anchorage, Alaska, Chris was raised in Waxahachie, Texas. He is a graduate from Texas State University, where he received his Bachelors of Science degree in Sociology. After losing both his grandparents while away at college, he felt the overwhelming calling to work with geriatrics in some capacity. He began his career as a Marketing & Events Director for a skilled nursing community before transitioning to assisted living management. Currently he manages a staff of 40 individuals in all aspects of culinary, life safety, environmental, health services and recreational activity operations for his community. With nine years in the senior healthcare industry as a Certified Assisted Living Director and Dementia Practitioner, he’s grown accustom to wearing many hats as instructor, counselor and encourager to both residents, staff and his families. Whether creating viral music videos with his residents, teaching them how to use Alexa or planning their next big field trip to WinStar his passion for seniors is evident through his service. Chris has a true obsession for Christmas and as a former holiday decorator for the White House, naturally his first encounter with DIFFA/Dallas was by attending the Wreath Collection. The following year, he joined DIFFA/Dallas Young Professionals in their inaugural season. As a member of the Turtle Creek Chorale and President of DIFFA/Dallas Young Professionals he believes that the greatest way to make an impact is by utilizing your gifts through volunteering for the good of others. He is grateful for the many relationships that have developed by being a part of the organization and is inspired by the accomplishments that the YP program has achieved.

STEVE WEIR Welcome to House of DIFFA: Alter Ego. On behalf of DIFFA/Dallas Board of trustees, DIFFA Dallas Style council ambassadors, staff and countless volunteers, I thank you for your generous support of DIFFA Dallas and the AIDS Service Organizations chosen as our beneficiaries. I am honored to serve DIFFA/Dallas as Board Chair. I must thank the entire Board of Trustees, Style Council, Staff, and Volunteers for their countless hours of work dedicated to achieving our 2018 goals. As the first legally married DIFFA/Dallas Board Chair, I am thrilled to share this evening with my husband David, my family, and would like to thank them for their love, acceptance, and inspiration. DIFFA/Dallas began in 1984. In its 34 year history, DIFFA/Dallas has become one of the largest and most successful fundraising organizations supporting HIV/ AIDS direct care services including mental health counseling, meal programs, housing, education, critical care, and many other vital services. While HIV infection is not a death sentence as it once was, there still is no cure. The powerful and innovative medications available can significantly reduce and almost eliminate the risk of transmission. Additionally, those at high-risk of exposure can take the very same medication in a preventative dose and effectively block their ability to contract HIV. Consistent access to these medications is vital to the long-term health of anyone taking these medications. Even today, as we know more about HIV/AIDS, there is much more to learn. Until we find a cure, we must all do everything to fight its spread. In the United States alone, on average 135 people per day are diagnosed with HIV. In North Texas, nearly 1000 residents will contract HIV this year which translates to the highest new infection rate in all of Texas. These men, women, and children all face significant challenges. Tonight, you can make a difference by participating in our Fund A Grant, bidding in our Live and Silent auctions and by purchasing a raffle ticket for a new Sewell Lexus. The AIDS Service Organizations we support have a significant financial need. As State and Federal funds shrink, our community must work hard to take care of our own. Funds granted to these organizations by DIFFA/Dallas support medical care, meals, mental health, education and housing programs for their clients and their families. Thank you to every past DIFFA/Dallas Board of Directors, Board Chair and House of DIFFA Chair for their efforts and dedication to this organization. It is because of them that has led us to where we are tonight. Having held positions in the human resources, business, and foundation sectors, Twana has effectively mastered the ability to tailor her skills to the needs of various client populations. Ms. Collins is an enthusiastic and innovative professional with over 25 years of knowledge in areas of event planning, administration, and customer relations. Her outgoing personality, coupled with an extensive skill set and keen eye for detail, has allowed her to continuously grow and flourish professionally. Twanaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s professional experience has granted her the opportunity to develop a strong ability to effectively work with diverse populations. In addition to her professional duties, Ms. Collins is a mother of two, and believes strongly in giving back to her community. HEALTH AWARD Children’s Medical Center of Dallas DIFFA/Dallas is pleased to announce the winner of this year’s Health Award, Children’s Medical Center. The Children’s ARMS (AIDS-Related Medical Services) Clinic provides important programs that offer primary care and improve health outcomes for infants, children, and adolescents who are infected with or have been exposed to HIV/AIDS. The ARMS Clinic at Children’s is the only pediatric primary care provider in North Texas for children exposed to/ infected with HIV and provides HIV testing and treatment for approximately 400 children annually. The Children’s ARMS Clinic was established in 1987 and provides multidisciplinary and comprehensive care for patients with the goal of helping those living with HIV build confidence and autonomy. In addition to providing exceptional care, patients are given access to specialists, psychologists, and support groups, self-esteem workshops, and knowledge and skill building activities to help manage their condition and reduce the risk of further spreading the disease. The ARMS Clinic also works with local organizations to increase awareness and target high-risk adolescents to prevent both acquisition and transmission of HIV and other STIs.

Support from DIFFA has helped the Children’s ARMS Clinic maintain and enhance excellent care provided to HIV infected and exposed children through direct patient care, community outreach, and patient and family support programs. Funds have been used to provide nutritional supplements to families in need of assistance, pillboxes and keychains to aid in medication adherence, emergency HIV medications and labs to meet short term needs for patients lacking financial support, emergency transportation vouchers for patients so they may attend appointments at Children’s despite their financial hardship, and so much more. Additionally, the ARMS Clinic sends patients and families to Camp Tecumseh and Camp Hope twice a year. These camps are free of charge and dedicated exclusively to families affected by HIV/AIDS with the goal of allowing children to experience normal childhood activities in a safe environment and build relationships with other children that have similar conditions.

On Thursday, November 16, 2017, DIFFA/Dallas, hosted its 22nd Holiday Wreath Collection at the Fashion Industry Gallery to ring in the holiday season. The holiday spirit was in full swing at this year’s event. DIFFA/ Dallas’ Chairman of the Board, Steve Weir, and event co-chairs Meagan Camp and Karena Chisolm mingled amongst well-crafted wreaths with host Tom Hatton, and his wife Carol Hatton. Guests mixed and mingled amongst 80 one-of-a-kind wreaths, works of art and curated accessories displayed beautifully throughout the “Vintage White Christmas” themed space. The extraordinary wreaths were designed by Allan Knight, Brian Chaffin, Dan & Joseph, Robyn Menter Design, Moët, James Martin Furniture, Todd Oldham, Dallas Design Supply and many more. Guests had the opportunity to bid on the unique and festive wreaths, curated auction packages all while enjoying hors d’ oeuvres courtesy of III Forks Steakhouse and Seafood and cocktails by Impeccable Rosé Brut by Steffi Burns, Republic National Distributing Company, Ben E. Keith, and Crafthouse Cocktails. Guests also enjoyed desserts, including ice cream from Lake Highland Creamery and treats by the Great American Cookie Co. We truly could not do this without you! What started as a simple jean jacket auction has transformed into something so much more, and we attribute that to all of you. We have a beautiful collection this year with an eclectic array of jackets, blazers, capes, denim, and more from global fashion houses to up-and-coming local talent. Every single piece plays a part in assisting a local AIDS Service Organization that provides direct patient care, education, and so much more to people impacted by HIV/AIDS. A simple blazer can provide funding for a patient to receive life-saving medication, access to a psychologist, or send a child to summer camp with other HIV impacted children so they can experience normal childhood activities in a safe environment with other children sharing similar conditions.
