PROLOGUE Often the work we put into something is not reflected in the impact it makes. In many cases this is due to the work not being valued or not being adequately presented so it can go unnoticed. You have the privilege to have in your hands a copy of the first edition of the series DigiPen Bilbao Art Books. This book aims to document and highlight the extraordinary work that our students do in the second year of their degree. I trust that by the time you finish reading this art book you will be impressed by the quality of the work of our second year students. I also hope that this book will serve to add you to the community of followers that can testify to how this new generation of professionals is being trained. This new generation will, undoubtedly, be the future leaders and a reference in the world of European animation and game development. I am convinced that if the drawings could talk, they would be pleased by the affection, hard work, passion and pride employed by their creators in producing them. I truly believe that these drawings will happily go out into the world and they will be the best ambassadors of the skills and talent of their creators. MAIN CHARACTER Getting to know Kokopelli

We were looking for something new, fresh and dynamic, but mantaining the traditional aspects of the native american culture and that fitted the magical and in some way abstract appearence of Wahkan. After a lot of research, we found this little Shaman called Kokopelli that wondered through the native american tribes playing his flute. The character fitted our expectations perfectly, so we made it the pretty little cute thing that it is now.

BACKGROUNDS

Exploring the world of Wahkan

Wahkan is a magical world placed in the mind of the current Shaman of the tribe. With such an abstract context, the backgrounds that compounded the game needed to be magical, and shomehow, unique. This unique world is made of a creepy cave, which leads you to the open magical forests, where complex riddles await. And when reaching the end, the Shaman will take you to the mysterious desert, a place where magic flows free.

PROCESS Wahkan is a special 2D game project, as it´s been done using a traditional watercolor process, as well as a traditional animation process. Therefore, here there are some special images that will illustrate better the process the team has followed and the materials that have been used.
