ABOUT BOERNE
Boerne has a storied history that began nearly 170 years ago, and our European roots are still evident in both our architecture and our spirit! Nestled just 20 miles from San Antonio, the old-world charm of Boerne feels a world away from the big city. Yet, our shopping, dining, events, lodging, arts and culture rival any in Texas. Spend some time outdoors, too, as you meander along one of our popular walking trails or breath the crisp, outdoor air at one of our amazing area parks. We are repeatedly named as a “Top Destination in regional and national media, and we think that once you spend time strolling down our awardwinning Hill Country Mile and explore everything it offers, you will become a huge fan, too!
1970-80s
1930s Cascade Caverns and the Cave Without A Name open for public tours.
1960s Boerne Berges Fest, as an ice cream social in downtown Boerne, is first celebrated to stimulate commerce.
IH-10 is completed, and Boerne begins rapid growth in population and tourism. The Cibolo Nature Center opens on Earth Day.
TODAY 2000s The Patrick Heath Public Library is constructed and opens in its current location.
Just this year, the Boerne Visitors Center opened it's doors on the Hill Country Mile!

HILL COUNTRY MILE Steeped in Hill Country charm, the colorful storefronts and historic buildings that comprise downtown Boerne’s Hill Country Mile will bring feelings of nostalgia--but our shops, restaurants and galleries are anything but antiquated! Step through original doors and beautifully decorated store windows to find chic boutique clothing, jewelry, gifts and Hill Countryinspired works of art that combine history
and modern trends for a truly unique shopping experience. Take a walk or ride bikes on our beautiful paved trails, where you’ll find pocket parks and beautiful works of art along the way, both permanent to Boerne and part of our rotating public art project, Art al Fresco. Top off a day of exploring at one of our restaurants or craft breweries, where you’ll be greeted with small-town hospitality and treated to dishes passed down through generations as well as thoughtful culinary creations from the area’s top chefs. With more than 50 shops and restaurants offering something different, and yearround events unique to Boerne, it’s no surprise Country Living Magazine named the Hill Country Mile one of the “Top 25 Small Town Main Streets in America.”

WALK DOWN THE BOERNE BEER TRAIL Something’s always brewing in Boerne, and we mean that literally, because when it comes to craft beer, Boerne is home to several breweries and beer gardens scattered throughout town. So, hit the trail and discover three craft breweries situated along the Cibolo Trail in downtown Boerne.
Cibolo Creek Brewing Co. is a local favorite for their casual atmosphere, farm-fresh pub menu, and their craft beers located in a Victorian-era cottage with outdoor seating as well. Keep and eye out for regular creative small batch brews! Dodging Duck Brewhaus While the food is excellent, it’s the beer that has won them 6 medals at the World Beer Championships and has brought them raving fans! Their indoor seating or outdoor patio space that overlooks the Cibolo Creek make this another local favorite. Tusculum Brewing Co. just opened in fall 2019, but they are quickly becoming a fan favorite with their craft beers and tasty menu. Unwind after a fun-filled day in Boerne on their large outdoor patio with a group of friends.

DAYTRIPPING Boerne: The Hub of the Texas Hill Country
Many guests select Boerne as their “hub” during a visit to the Texas Hill Country because of its convenience to major airports, as well as the short distance to many other historic Texas towns. With gorgeous, year-round weather and a sunset that paints the Texas sky a vivid hue of orange, some people decide that they never want to leave! However, if you do get around to venturing out for the day, some of our recommendations are:
Austin (90 min)
The capitol of Texas, visit the Texas State Capitol, the Bob Bullock Museum, and 6th street, home to a multitude of live music venues, bars, and restaurants. Find multiple parks, Lake Austin, and don’t miss the LBJ Library on the campus of the University of Texas.
Bandera (30 min)
The self-proclaimed “Cowboy Capitol of the World” is a throwback to the days of the Old West. Bandera was the starting point of the Great Western Cattle Trail during the latter 19th century. Today, the town is known for its abundance of saloons, honky-tonks,

dude ranches, Main Street shopping, and its fierce loyalty to the Cowboy way.
Camp Verde (45 min) The 1854 site of
Jefferson Davis’ “Texas Camel Experiment”. Robert E. Lee was said to have laid out the grounds, officer’s quarters, and camel pens while stationed in the area. The present-day incarnation of the site is a fabulous world-class shopping and dining destination with treasures from all over the world.
Fredericksburg
(45 min) is a German-heritage town that is home to many national museums and attractions, wineries, shops, galleries, and annual events, many which celebrate German heritage. Wildseed Farms, the nation’s largest working wildseed operation, and famous Luckenbach, Texas are must-visits while in the area. Ingram (45 min)
is nestled on the banks of the Guadalupe between Kerrville and Hunt. Historic Old Ingram Loop is a

working artists’ colony along the banks of the Guadalupe River. While you’re there, check out Stonehenge II—a life-sized replica of the original one—which sits on the grounds of Ingram’s Point Theater.
Kerrville (30 min)
sits along the banks of the Guadalupe River, which meanders through town. Kerrville has a vibrant downtown filled with retail stores, art galleries and restaurants. The Museum of Western Art and The Kerr Arts and Cultural Center are popular with art patrons. The James Avery Craftsman headquarters is also located outside of town.
AROUND THE COUNTY
is a fellow German-heritage Hill Country town that offers a variety of shopping, dining, and events that take place throughout the year, including popular WurstFest. Some of our very first settlers emigrated from New Braunfels, and we continue a shared history of our European influence.
Kendall County is home to Boerne, Bergheim, Sisterdale, Comfort, Waring and Welfare. Our county neighbors offer some gorgeous views, dance-halls, shopping, dining, and places to relax and take in the beauty of a Texas Hill Country sunset or a star-filled sky. The following are a few of the unique, character-filled places you’ll find around Kendall County!

town whose German name means “Mountain Home”. Bergheim is the home of, O’Brien’s restaurant, The RoundUp Outdoor Music Venue, and Guadalupe River State Park.
Comfort
(15 min.) is famously unincorporated, and that’s exactly how the locals like it! A large number of fabulous antique dealers, whimsical retail stores, wineries, a distillery, arts and crafts, pottery stores, jewelry stores, and eclectic eateries make up the historic downtown district, where nearly every building is on the National Register of Historic Places. Comfort offers may annual events, and they have a thriving retail scene. Sisterdale (15 min.)
A once-thriving center of German abolitionism and Unionism, it became a quiet hamlet after the Civil War. Today, it features Sister Creek Vineyards, Saint Tryphon Farm and Vineyards, Sisterdale Saloon, and a handful of wonderful artisan shops. Also, don’t miss VisitBoerne.org | 61 out on Blackboard BBQ!
