f you’re dreaming of a country chic wedding, rustic, modern or classic – whatever vibe you’re after – you need look no further than the Wedding Capital of Texas. In Dripping Springs, you’re bound wr#Ľqg#qrw#rqo|#wkh#shuihfw# venue, but have all of your vendors and services taken care of as well. Such was the case for newlywed Mallory McKeel who married her husband, Joe, on a beautiful evening in June at Camp Lucy. “The location seemed very whimsical, elegant, romantic,” McKeel said. It came as a surprise for her to not only discover Camp Lucy, but Dripping Springs in general. An Austin resident, McKeel said she initially thought she’d be married in the city. “Honestly, I thought we’d have it in downtown Austin like at the Driscoll or something,” she said. But when she stumbled across Camp Lucy’s booth at a Bridal Extravaganza, her attention turned to having a Hill Country wedding. ģDw#Ľuvw#L#glgqġw#nqrz#li#L# wanted an outside wedding, and

The ease of not having to look far for these types of options combined with the breathtaking views that can only be found in the Hill Country makes for a perfect day. It did for the McKeels, as they celebrated one of the most memorable times of their lives in the Wedding Capital of Texas.

Moise stresses that proper planning is the key to making a couple’s wedding “vision come to life.”And as this year’s weather has shown, having a contingency plan is critically important. “These days, brides should always ask about Plan B. by GARY ZUPANCIC he Hill Country is very unique and, being the Wedding Capital of Texas, attracts brides and grooms from all around the country. The mystique and beauty of the area draw couples to the Hill Country as a “destination.” Weddings that are drawn to Dripping Springs want to capture that Hill Country mystique, as its theme. Every part of the wedding is very important, but the venue can be the most h{shqvlyh#sduw#ri#wkh#zhgglqjv#zkhq#doo#wkh#sduwv/#ľrudo/#fu|vwdo/#wdeohforwkv/#irrg#dqg# location are taken together. And it can all be confusing trying to get your wedding perfect. By having one in the Hill Country, the beauty of nature and the area is a constant, and it can run the gamut from barbecue on paper plates to steak and oysters on china with crystal. Camp Lucy is set on Creek Road and has multiple venues for weddings and every taste. Making the perfect Hill Country wedding that is unique for the prospective couple is the goal. Owners Whit and Kim Hanks have 208 weddings booked for 2016. “It’s not cake and punch anymore,” Kim said.

Whit said to research places on the Internet specializing on Hill Country venues, and narrow it down. “And then tour those places, get the feel of each place.” Is that the atmosphere you want? Wineries typically feature the vineyard – excellent for photos – gorgeous landscaped grounds, amazing architecture and, not to mention the best part of all, lots of wine,” said Candace Barnes, director of events at Duchman Winery. The elegance of a winery is also a big plus as many brides and grooms are looking

ell Yeah Cakes in Dripping Springs hasn’t been operated out of Crystal Devazier’s house for two years now. That’s only because her husband wanted his house back. She has been baking her entire life, and seeing the magic she creates is sheer artistry combined with eggs and real butter – and no cake mixes. She has a steady stream of clients, earned by word-of-mouth references. Devazier works in tandem with the wedding planner, Once Upon A Bride, located in Oak Hill, but welcomes the opportunity to create wedding and groom’s cakes for anyone. “Groom’s cakes are fun,” she said. Sometimes other cake makers will tell couples they are limited in what they can have as a wedding cake. This is not the case for Devazier. “The wedding cake is your cake; if |rx#zdqw#vhyhq#glļhuhqw#ľdyruv/#gr#lw1# I want to make what you want,” she said. If you want the cake at the last minute, she said she can prepare it in three days, with everything made from scratch, emphasizing that she doesn’t use box mixes. If you haven’t decided yet, hairstylist and owner of Pink West Salon, Deborah Carter, shares insight on what brides need to know about achieving that perfect hairstyle for their big day. One of the biggest trends she’s seeing is braids. If that’s something brides are considering, to get the best look, Carter advises them to invest in clip on hair extensions. “You can get them in human hair. You can

by BONNIE GONZALEZ our wedding day should be a day that you look back on with fond memories, beautiful photographs and no stress! Here is a countdown of glamour tips to make your wedding day makeup appear beautiful for a luminous complexion: 10. Start with beautiful skin. Think of makeup like lflqj#rq#wkh#fdnh1#\hv/#lw#fdq#klgh#vrph#ľdzv/#exw#wkh# fohduhu#|rxu#vnlq#lv/#wkh#pruh#frqĽghqwo|#|rx#zloo#zdon# down the aisle. Start using a good skin care regimen three to six months in advance, as well as work on increasing your water, vegetable and fruit intake and decreasing oil in your diet. You will not only clear up your skin, but feel better too. Use skin care products wkdw#duh#qrq0frphgrjhqlf#+zloo#qrw#forj#|rxu#sruhv,# and have a daily sunscreen of at least spf 30 to prevent wrinkles and sun damage. 9. Test out your look in advance of your wedding and photos. Wear a classically beautiful look. Trends will always come and go so you want a look that will still be gorgeous when you look back at your photos in 20, 30 and 50 years. You also want to still look like you. 8. Find and wear a foundation that truly matches your skin tone. There is nothing worse than having wkdw#ģsxpsnlq#idfhĤ#ru#olqh#ri#pdnhxs#rq#|rxu#mdzolqh1# Be sure the foundation is also non-comedogenic and doorzv#|rxu#vnlq#wr#euhdwkh1#Juhdw#irxqgdwlrq#mxvw# pdnhv#iru#d#pruh#ľdzohvv#|rx#dqg#vkrxog#orrn#olnh#|rx# don’t have foundation on. absorption for at least six hours for your wedding day to help prevent shine. If possible, foundation should be applied before you have your hair done to keep it out of your hairline. HAIR TIPS FROM PAGE 22 with the braids and the curls and the loops,” Carter said. If you don’t have a brooch but are feeling a little crafty, another suggestion is to get together with your bridal party and make your own hair accessories. “If you take a little trip to Hobby Lobby and you get pearls or rhinestones or tiny little ivy leaves or whatever and then you and your bridesmaids sit around the dining room table over newspaper with a glue gun or even super glue and a pile of hair pins, you fdq#kdyh#d#olwwoh#sloh#ri#vsduno|#wklqjv#wr#mxvw#srs#lqwr# your hair when your hair is done and everyone can look kind of in sync, and it’s pretty,” Carter said. When it comes time to put them in your hair and bring the style all together, here’s what you need to know about how to show up at the salon. “Hair that is not squeaky clean is less likely to slide out of an updo, but I’ll tell you the truth, there’s no way you’re going to get a bride to not shampoo her hair the day of the wedding,” Carter said. “What we do instead is that we suggest you put something in your hair before you dry it. My favorite
way for a bride to come to me is with clean hair that has about an 1/8 cup of Paul Mitchell sculpting lotion in her hair. You put enough sculpting lotion in you hair until your hair feels slimy and then you dry it. So when I get you, it’s clean and dry and full of sculpting lotion. That lotion will give the hairspray something to stick to. If you try to put hair spray on squeaky clean hair it whqgv#wr#volgh#rļ1Ĥ Above all, Carter said it’s very important to do a run through once you have your hairstyle in mind. “Especially if you’re going to a new stylist,” Carter said. “[Brides] tend to not want do that and they get busy. That’s the last thing on your mind, but you don’t want wr#gr#|rxu#kdlu#iru#wkh#Ľuvw#wlph#lq#d#vw|oh#|rxġyh#qhyhu# worn before with a stylist you’ve never used before on your wedding day. That’s a recipe for disaster as far as I’m concerned,” Carter said. So however you decide to wear your hair on your vshfldo#gd|/#frqvlghu#jlylqj#lw#d#sudfwlfh#uxq#Ľuvw1#
MAKE UP FROM PAGE 26 or lips are great, but you get into trouble when you do both. A dramatic, smoky eye look or a classic cat eye look is balanced with a more neutral lip. Dramatic red lips look beautiful with a neutral eye. How do you pick? Which do you get the most compliments on? Which would make you feel most beautiful? 6. Use oil control/shine control for everyone in the wedding party. Photos will be taken throughout your big day from the ceremony to the reception. Oil control can start with your skin care or foundation, but there are also great products to help throughout the gd|/#hyhq#iru#wkh#jurrp1##Xvh#d#fohdu#Rlo#PdwwlĽhu#wr# vrdn#xs#h{fhvv#rlo#dqg#Ehdxw|#Eorwwhuv#+wlvvxhv,#wr#vrdn# up oil without disturbing makeup. This will prevent the need for multiple layers of powder throughout the day, and the groomsmen will look great without any shine too. 5. Wear waterproof mascara. Yes, you might tear up. Even the toughest of brides gets emotional as she looks in her families’ eyes as she walks down the aisle. Just do it. Better safe than have raccoon eyes! 4. Use a great Finishing Spray. This product is like hair spray but for your makeup. Foundation Primer,

Eye Primer, Lip Primer – it can all help – but Finishing Spray is amazing. Your makeup will look great for hours and hours. 3. Use concealer and contouring techniques. People riwhq#dvn#krz#prghov#jhw#wkdw#ľdzohvv#orrn/#dqg# it is usually bronzing/highlighting or contouring techniques. Be careful around the eyes as concealer can sometimes be too drying and emphasize wrinkles. You can mix it with a little moisturizer or use a Facial Highlighting pen that has a creamier texture with a oljkwhu#Ľqlvk1 2. Use a professional to decrease your stress on your big day. Work with someone who will let you pick your look at least a month in advance and who works with photographers. This is your day to sit back, relax and focus on the love of your life – not worry about your makeup. 1. Remember that you are beautiful. When you look in that mirror, realize that you were made perfectly. Every contour of your face is uniquely you and you are ihduixoo|#dqg#zrqghuixoo|#pdgh1##Oryh#dqg#mr|#zloo#oljkw# up your face on your wedding day, and nothing is more beautiful than that!

apturing one of the biggest events in your life, the wedding and everything that leads up to it is very important, so it is best not to leave it up to inexperienced photographers. Nothing is worse than to be disappointed in something that is a keepsake, to be passed down to your future children and grandchildren. There are numerous great photographers in the Hill Country dqg#fkrrvlqj#rqh#wr#phhw#|rxu#uhtxluhphqwv#wdnhv#d#olwwoh#hļruw1# Getting one that you can trust to do photographs the way you desire can be a chore if you don’t know what to look for, or ask the right questions. One of the area’s photographers, Peary Photography, is a family-owned business. The husband and wife team Bill and Karen Peary have shot more than 700 weddings in more than 200 yhqxhv1#Wkh|#ylhz#hdfk#zhgglqj#dv#xqltxh#dqg#lqglylgxdo/#mxvw#olnh# the clients, who might want traditional photographs or whimsical rqhv#ru#vrphwklqj#frpsohwho|#glļhuhqw1
Photographer Bill Peary’s tips: • A relaxed consultation with the client is important. Starbucks is not a good place to have the consultation. Meet somewhere where there will be no distractions, as crowded places tend to distract the couple from describing what they would like. Peary has the consultation at his daughter’s house in Westlake with a beautiful view. The consultation is casual and relaxed. Being relaxed
helps the couple to discuss what they really want. • Make sure the photographer listens to you. If the photographer talks too much about their accomplishments and is more concerned about making a sale than your wedding, you might be disappointed in the result. Peary’s daughter will kick him under the table if he goes on too much about
his work. The photographer needs to listen to you and what you want, not the other way around. • Ask to see photo albums of their work. Living in the South, most weddings are pretty traditional, but don’t let that stop you if you zdqw#vrphwklqj#glļhuhqw1#Wkh# photographer needs to ask how you met, what are your hobbies, what are you both passionate about, etc. This

PEARY FROM PAGE 30 is very good background information to make your photos unique and about you. The photographer needs to get to know you on a personal level. •Don’t ask to re-create scenes that were seen on the Internet. Trying to re-create scenes that are impractical but look good for somebody else’s wedding might not be a good idea. Show the photographer one or two Pinterest photos to get an idea is one thing, but showing them 20 or more is not practical. It’s your wedding but don’t try to re-create a mountain scene while you’re getting married on the beach. This is not a good idea. • A good photographer will try to capture the feeling of the day. They can make the most of your day. Being on your toes and capturing those spontaneous moments are what make a good photographer. One wedding had the bridesmaids dressed in superhero costumes and the groomsmen exposing superhero costumes underneath their tuxedo shirts, making the entire experience unique. He has also shot Star Wars-themed weddings or whatever the bride and groom want. At one bridal session, she requested her dog be in the photos. The bride’s Weimaraner was the perfect model, looking in the exact direction that the bride, and it worked out great. At an engagement session, the couple staged d#froruhg#fkdon#Ľjkw/#eorzlqj#wkh#gxvw#lq#hdfk# other’s faces. That also turned out well, showing the playfulness between the couple and having fun. Uhphpehu#wkh#skrwrv#qhhg#wr#uhľhfw#wkh#eulgh# and groom as unique as they are on their big day. There are to many other things to worry about the wedding. The photographer should not be one of them.
