“Magic to Do” is the opening number of the Tony Award winning musical, Pippin

The production tells the story of its namesake, a young prince who longs to be something much more than an ordinary royal, he hopes to be extraordinary.

Written by Stephen Schwartz, “Magic to Do” is a song of preparation, sung by the Leading Player, as a way to prepare both the actors and the audience for the story they are about to experience.

As you listen to the lyrics of “Magic to Do,” you can understand why All Star

Theatre has selected this song as the official ending of the “pre-show.”

Theatricality has long been tied to magic, one of the final surviving forms of acceptable illusion. The song is an anthem for performers and technicians everywhere, reminding us that it is our responsibility to create the magic of theatre for audiences of the young, and the young at heart. Much like Pippin, it is our opportunity to transform from ordinary people, to extraordinary performers.

However, the song is truly for the audience, as it calls for you to discard your problems, your tribulations, your “life” at the door, and journey with us to a mystic, exciting spot. That is the true magic of theatre. For two hours you can go under the sea, fly to a whole new world, or travel the circle of life but only if you believe

“Magic to Do” is All Star Kids Club’s invitation to you to “join us” as we journey in Arendelle. We’ve got magic to do, and it’s just for you!

FROM THE DIRECTOR

How often have you been told you cannot do something? If I had listened to the people who said “theatre will never pay the bills” or “theatre is just a hobby, you need to do something with your life” we might not be sitting in this theatre today. Those of us who think outside the box are often praised for our resiliency, but chastised for choosing a path that looks very different from the paths of others. That, in and of itself, is the story of SpongeBob, an unlikely hero who finds that he possesses the characteristics necessary to be the change he wants to see in the world.

lfamously was against SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical when it arrived on Broadway in 2017. “How could a Nickelodeon cartoon make for quality theatre?’ I thought, ‘It’s a tourist trap!” So I elected not to see the musical when Mr. Carlos went to watch it, opting instead to watch the eight hour epic Angels in America During our dinner break (yes, Angels in America is so long that you need a dinner break), Mr. Carlos said “You really need to see SpongeBob, it is your kind of show.” I fought against watching it, but could not say no when I found a $40 center orchestra ticket. That ticket changed my perspective. I proudly eat crow acknowledging that Mr. Carlos was right (but you don't have to tell him), SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical is my kind of show.

FROM THE DIRECTOR

At its core, the musical is a celebration of friendship, laughter, and simple joys. However, the production you are about to see is also a stark reminder of how fear messaging can lead to detrimental consequences. SpongeBob the Musical explores the concept of leadership and the struggle between maintaining the status quo versus creating positive change. The characters, particularly SpongeBob and his friends, challenge the idea that power should be in the hands of a few, emphasizing that anyone, regardless of their status, can make a difference. This can be interpreted as a critique of elitism and a call for more inclusive, collaborative leadership.

In that same vein, I wanted to tell a story that should affect all of us on the gulf coast- 8 million tons of garbage enter our oceans every year, the equivalent of about 16 billion pounds of plastic waste at present. Reduce, reuse, and recycle was my mantra for the production you are about to see. Ms. Bry, Mr. Daniel, and I pulled as much of our current stock as we could to costume or performers and dress our stage. What we could not source in one of our many storage units (PSA: If anyone has a warehouse to offer, we would gladly take a look), we committed to finding within Habitat for Humanity, thrift stores, and Facebook Marketplace. Our show looks very different from what you normally expect to see from an All Star Kids Club production, and that is the very point. If we can mute ourselves by using discards, imagine how our oceans look. As you watch the show today, I challenge you to be the change in our world.

Commit to recycling materials, rather than throwing them away, or to fix rather than buy new. Not unlike SpongeBob, you are not a simple sponge and these changes can make huge impact.

I would be remiss if I did not mention the team that made this production possible to be seen by Valley audiences. Mom, thank you for the many sacrifices you made for Jennifer, Ginger, and me- your constant support helped shape the future of All Star Theatre and you are ALWAYS in my heart. Our All Star parents and families who shuttle their children to and from our studio and ensure they are prepared for rehearsal and class, you are, quite literally, the driving force behind our production and we thank you. Our All Star Angels who help us solve the real issues, like Jennifer and Rep. Oscar Longoria, Stephanie Enslein, Julie DoyleReyes, and Yajaira Flores, your efforts make All Star a stronger organization and are valued beyond measure. Next, the All Star team. There is no way this production could have happened without the dedicated efforts of Carlos, Andrea, Katie, Jon, Bry, Christina, Christian, Daniel, Eddy, Emily, Holly, Lulu, Victoria, and Sophie. Every year our productions get stronger and, as a result, we grow closer. Thank you for bringing the magic to our production- it would not have been accomplished without you. Your tireless efforts and phenomenal artistry have created a final product we can all be proud of- thank you. Finally I must thank YOU, the theater patrons of south Texas. You are the reason these actors, technicians, choreographers and directors work so diligently – we perform for you, and I hope you enjoy our show.

I dedicate this production to my Mom, Annie Garza, my Grandmother, Juanita Martinez, my Nana, Dora Garcia, and my friends, Johnny Joe Trillayes, Lianna Nicole Olmeda, Janet Doyle, and Sandra Luna. Although their physical presence is absent, their lessons, their words, and their spiritual presence remain vibrant, always.

Victor Gomez IV and Owen Enslein

Since its founding in 2013, the All Star Kids Club has been dedicated to inspiring young performers through musical theatre classes in South Texas. Originally designed for students ages 5 to 15, the program quickly became more than just a place to learn acting, singing and dance—it became a community where students wanted to stay and grow until they graduated high school. Recognizing this, the club expanded its age range five years ago to include students up to 18, allowing them to build confidence, refine public speaking skills, and develop valuable life skills that extend beyond the stage. This year marks a special milestone as two dedicated All Stars graduate from the program. Having watched them evolve over the years, the All Star Kids Club takes immense pride in their journey and achievements. As they step into the next chapter of their lives, their time at the club will remain a testament to the power of creativity, perseverance, and personal growth.

Owen Enslein

What will you remember from All Star?

10 seasons in All Star

"The community, the kids, and the friends I've made over the years—everyone is so, so special. They have given me passion. I think some of the most powerful moments in the rehearsal room are when I'm sitting on the side, watching the other kids do what they love, doing it so well, and putting their everything into a song or a scene. That's what I live for. I don't think I'll ever be able to find something like All Star again.

The teachers and instructors, throughout my childhood and into my adulthood, have truly shaped who I am. They instilled in me the values of hard work and perseverance, and they believed in me. They let me be both their student and their friend. I'm really going to miss this community."

What is your favorite character you have played in an All Star Kids Club production, and why?

"Probably SpongeBob. He is very optimistic, and I'm very optimistic too. He is aware of the circumstances around the world, but he chooses to go out and spread love, happiness, friendship, and joy."

Why do you think theatre is important?

"It really is an opportunity to just play—not only to get that creative stimulation that every kid needs but also to discover themselves. They learn what it's like to work with others—teamwork, which is very important—and what it means to have responsibilities, like remembering their lines, choreography, and songs. I think it's so important because it gives people an outlet to express themselves."

Victor Gomez IV

What will you remember from All Star?

"Definitely the teachings—a lot of the things you learn here not only help you in theater but also in life. That's why I love All Star the most. The passion that goes into it is amazing."

What is your favorite character you have played in an All Star Kids Club production, and why?

"Patrick Star. I love Patrick because the things I'm working on this year are probably some of the most ambitious things I have ever done. The songs are cool, the dances too, and I think people will really love them. As an honorable mention, I would say Fester. He was very fun to play and had a lot of character in him."

8 seasons in All Star

Why do you think theatre is important?

"I believe theater is important not only because of the friends you make and the bonds you create with such talented people around you, but also because it helps you find yourself, I guess. It also helps build your personality, allows you to move forward, and boosts your confidence. I have grown as a performer and have gained a passion for theatre."

ENSLEIN

Owen, YOU ARE READY!!

The stage is yours, and the world is ready for your talent!

Your passion, dedication, and hard work have brought you to this incredible milestone, and we have no doubt that you'll continue to shine in all that you do. May your journey be filled with standing ovations, unforgettable performances, and endless creativity.

Break a leg in all your future endeavors!

Love, your tios

GOMEZ IV

Victor,

Today we close a chapter of your childhood that allowed you to dream and to be. We are grateful for the memories, the joy, and even the tears you brought to us. Those are many.

And, while every ending brings about a new beginning, we hope to be there with you every step of the way.

“The light shines even though the star is gone” and your light is brighter than ever.

Love, Mom and Dad

"To make an end is to make a beginning. The end is where we start from."

The All Star Kids Club was founded in 2013, and since then, we have had the privilege of watching our talented students grow on stage over the course of five productions.

To celebrate their dedication, we have introduced a special tradition, the Signature Red All Star Jacket—awarded to those who have performed in five productions.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to their families, not only for their unwavering support but also for sharing in our collective passion for the arts.

Congratulations to Suzette, Daniel, Katarina, Diego, Audrey, Katie, Jason and Gwen! It has been an incredible journey watching you flourish as performers.

Fourth Annual nominee dinner

2025 All Star Theatre Awards

Every season the All Star Kids Club team select different All Stars to receive an All Star Theatre Award based on their performance, participation, attendance, and leadership.

This year, for the fourth time we shared our nominee list with the All Stars and celebrated with what is now known as The All Star Theatre Awards Nominee Dinner. Our hope is to continue this tradition yearly to showcase the commitment and dedication of these very special All Stars.

ALL STAR OF THE MONTH

2024-2025

The All Star Kids Club is thrilled to bring back our All Star of the Month program!

This title is awarded to a standout All Star who goes above and beyond, showcasing exceptional leadership, dedication, and passion in our production of The SpongeBob Musical.

From September to April, our directors carefully select students who turn the ordinary into extraordinary, setting the stage for excellence with their hard work and commitment.

We are incredibly grateful for the dedication, energy, and heart that every All Star brings to this production—your efforts make the magic happen!
