“Men Behaving Godly” From Pastor Randy Weaver Most of us have been exposed to television’s portrayal of men behaving badly. But I wonder how many of us have been exposed to the Bible’s portrayal of men behaving godly? Wouldn’t you agree that what the world needs today is not more men behaving badly, but more men behaving godly? Proverbs 20:6 asks a very sobering question, “But faithful man – who can find?” If ever there was a day when our world needed “faithful men” it is today! The men of America need a wakeup call. Our world needs us to be godly men. Your wives and children need you to be a godly man, your church needs you to be a godly man, your business needs you to be a godly man and your community and nation needs you to be a godly man. What the world really needs today are some “MEN BEHAVING... GODLY!” I am convinced, if our families are going to survive in the 21st century, they will need strong male leadership to do so, families led by godly husbands and fathers. Men will have to stop behaving badly and start behaving godly. Let me point you to one of many passages that speak directly to the issue of men behaving godly. Psalm 112 states, “Praise the Lord! Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who delights greatly in His commandments.” This gets right to the root of the problem for most of us men. Too many men do not have a healthy “fear of God.” Too many men do not find “great delight in His commands.” When a man truly fears God and truly loves God’s word, that man is on his way to true godliness. His life is going to be productive and successful. How many of you men would like to be this kind of man? Psalm 1:1-3 says, “Blessed is the one who does not walk in step
with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.” Be the kind of man that will provide godly leadership to your wives and children. Acknowledge the power of your influence. I want you to realize the tremendous power of your influence on your marriage and on your children. As a husband, you have a powerful influence upon your wife. Your wife’s happiness and emotional security in life rests almost entirely upon you. I believe this is exactly what the Bible means when it says the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church. Being the head of your wife means you have the responsibility for her well-being. You are the one who provides security and satisfaction to her. I believe God built your wife to be a responder. And when you love her in the same way Christ loves the church, she will be secure and satisfied and happy.
fail to live and act in a godly way, you will pass that cycle of sin on to your children. There are some hazards that come with being male. We do not have a natural bent toward godliness. In fact, our natural bent is toward sinfulness and selfishness. And men have their own unique brand of sinfulness and selfishness. Men are not usually very relational by nature - we are loners. That is why most of us have to fight against our nature, and let God make us something different than we are by nature and temperament. Most of us are “aloof” by nature, meaning we withhold our affections and expressive love. Some wives and children interpret silence and aloofness as “rejection.” Most of your wives and kids are
starving for your affection and approval. We need to reach out and begin touching our families with our love and acceptance. So, if you are going to make some changes, you better start today. Tomorrow may be too late. Pastor Randy Weaver Lone Star Cowboy Church 21627 Eva St. Montgomery, TX 77356 (936) 597-5742 Service Times: Sundays 8:30; 10:00 and 11:30am Mondays 7:00pm Livestream: Watch us live Sundays & Mondays @ lonestar.tv or go to the Lone Star Cowboy Church Facebook page and click on the Livestream link.
As a father, you have a powerful influence on your children. I want you to realize what a tremendous impact you have on your children. In spite of what the world may say about your role, your children need you desperately. You better be behaving godly, or you’re not only going to wreck your own life, you are going to wreck the life of your children. Your children need you more than you can possibly realize. If you blow it and

Big Al’s View Of The World
I’ve watched a lot of tv in my life. I’m not a big sports fan. I don’t sit around all day on Sunday and watch football or golf. I’m more into sitcoms. I think I’ve seen almost every Big Bang Theory ever made. Not just because of Penny, although that is reason enough to watch. I basically got hooked a long time ago and it just stuck with me. My wife and I used to watch Friends when we first got married. It was the show back then to watch. I remember watching the final episode of Friends, MASH and now the Big Bang Theory. Final episodes never fail to disappoint you. They never end how you want them to. They kind of just leave you in limbo wanting more. I’m pretty sure they do that on purpose. One show I’ve never ever watched is the Game of Thrones. So it came as a surprise the other day when I was mowing in the bottom where normally I don’t even have phone service and I got a notification to go watch a YouTube video to catch up on the Game of Thrones. I was weaving in and out of limbs with my cab tractor. The hogs had torn up the ground so bad I was bouncing from side to side and I had to pee. I was not in
R&M Rodeo Photos
a good mood. It was a better mood with the a/c and the radio but still I was ready to get off of the tractor long before my phone “dinged.” So when I had to contort myself into position to get my phone from my front pocket it was just making my day. I was expecting my wife to call or text at any moment to say she was headed home. When I looked at the screen I can promise you that you didn’t want to be inside that cab with me. I’m not into wizards or dragons or anything to do with the fairy tale world. Game of Thrones is not something I have ever needed to subscribe to HBO for. I sure didn’t need to catch up on it on YouTube. I wish I could say that I politely put my phone back into my pocket and kept on mowing, but I didn’t. I had already had enough of hog ruts, pecan tree limbs and my tea from Whataburger that it was time to call it a day. How is it in a creek bottom that seldom has cell phone service for my more important calls was this one annoying notification able to get through? Modern technology has no bounds. Thank goodness my wife called within the next few minutes and it was time to “head to the house” for

some relief and some supper. I’m not sure how these notifications started coming to my phone but I get them all of the time. I’ve looked for a way to turn them off to no avail. I get them in the middle of the night, all during the day. And now that GOT (Game of Thrones for you newbies) is over, now they have counselors standing by to console you after the final episode. Get a life!!! If you need consoling after a tv show you might have a problem. I just lost my future girlfriend of 12 years and I’m doing fine. At least so far. You didn’t really think I watched Big Bang for the nerds did you. We’ve just got to suck it up. We’ll be fine without Penny. At least I hope so. The only thing worse than these notifications are the robo calls I get 20 times a day. In the old days you could tell when it was a robo call because it was from some weird number in a far off land. You knew right away you didn’t need to answer that call. Now they use local numbers from your area. You know you don’t know the number but it’s from your town and it might the mayor calling with the key to the city. It could be the banker calling with news about a lost deposit they just found for your account. Nope, it’s none of those. It’s just Laura calling to see if ObamaCare is working for you. It’s probably John with the International Brotherhood of Police wanting to know if you wanted to help out with their fund raiser. The best ones are the ones that start off with “this is not a sales call.” Then what the heck is it???

PANEL WALKER The most advanced horse walker on the market. Unlike traditional walkers, the Priefert Panel Walker eliminates the need to tie your horses to the walker so they’re able to move about more freely and naturally. Panel walkers "push" the horse instead of "pulling" it. Horses that have never been in a walker before become trained to use the walker instantly. Available in 4, 6, or 8 horse configurations. “Although there is one person that has always pushed me to be my best and has supported me in everything I do, my big brother Leighton. He is my hero.” The siblings know they can always count on each other, whether it is running the chutes or just being there for some advice. Both of them are equally dedicated to their respective events and feed off of each other’s successes. While older brother, Leighton, is out on the pro rodeo trail, the younger Berry is at home working on her roping and barrel racing, and she occasionally team ropes and runs poles. “My horses are the biggest things to me. My breakaway horse is ‘Blue’. He has made me everything I am on the roping side of things. I feel like he wants to win as bad as I do every time we back in the box. He is a rock star,” Berry said. “All the barrel horses I run are colts I trained. My rodeo horse right now is my five-year-old mare ‘Lily’ that I trained. She is very special to me.” While she enjoys every aspect of rodeo, she has had the most success in the breakaway roping. Berry was the 2018 Texas High School Rodeo Association state champion breakaway roper. She finished first in the title race with 53 points earned throughout the year. She won the short round with a time of 2.28 and roped a time of 7.58 on three head. Berry said qualifying for Nationals was a great experience, and even though it may not have gone exactly as
Keeping It In The Family THSRA State Champion Maci Berry Cuts Her Own Path Keeping It In The Family By Krista Lucas Breakaway ropers and ropings in general are a hot commodity right now. The women’s event is being added at professional rodeos like Cheyenne, Stephenville, Red Bluff, and more. This is good news for cowgirls like Maci Berry. The Berry name may be recognized from her dad and brother, Leighton, who was featured last month. Carrying on the family rodeo tradition, the Weatherford, Texas cowgirl is a self-proclaimed breakaway roper and barrel racer. She described growing up in a rodeo family as a happy experience. “Growing up in a rodeo family meant always having a ‘family’ anywhere we went,” Berry said. “I wouldn’t want to have grown up in any atmosphere other than the rodeo

world.” Berry’s first memory on horseback happened when she was just a little girl. Not long after that, rodeo became a part of her life as well. “The first horse I ever sat on was our two year old bay roan mare named Lucky. I don’t remember it very well, but hon-
Her parents have always supported her, along with close friends. The rodeo community is a tight knit bunch, where it is easy to find helpful individuals when the going gets tough, and Berry’s support system is no different. “I have great friends

out, her Lord and savior Jesus Christ. Although she is not the superstitious type, she does make sure to pray every time she backs in the box or before every run. She also competes in the United Professional Rodeo Association, with her favorite rodeos being Mexia or Wichita Falls, Texas. Both rodeos are based on an average of two calves instead of being the usual amateur rodeo one header. Berry, along with many other women in the sport, is excited to see breakaway roping being integrated into professional rodeo. “It is a game changer for sure. It means so much to all us breakaway ropers to have the opportunity to rope on a big stage,” Berry said. “It is awesome to watch the sport grow, and it has come so far in the past year. I am super excited for the future.” Not only is she a talent in the arena, she is also extremely skilled behind a cam-

era lens. Berry has a knack for capturing one-of-a-kind shots, whether it is during the rodeo action or behind the scenes. “Photography gives people the ability to capture moments as they see them,
making every photographer’s work unique,” she said. “I love being able to showcase my work the way I want it to be seen, and I plan on being a part time rodeo
os, ropings and barrel races, while attending Weatherford College in the fall on a rodeo scholarship. As she pursues a horse-training career
and lifestyle photographer.” With rodeo life and a growing photography business, Berry has a bright future ahead of her. She plans to continue competing at amateur rode-
and eventually builds her own breeding program, there is no doubt she will have her parents, friends, and brother, Leighton, all cheering her on.

Wrangler NFR steer wrestlers Talley, Parrot out injured Courtesy of the PRCA Wrangler National Finals Rodeo-qualifying steer wrestlers Jacob Talley and Rowdy Parrott were sidelined recently with pectoral injuries. Talley, who qualified for the Wrangler NFR in 2016 and 2018, tore his right pectoral muscle on his second steer at the Red Bluff (Calif.) Round-Up, April 18.
“I just started back after the knee injury, and I think I had been to eight rodeos,” Parrott said. “I just have to roll with it and get back on my feet and get back working in physical therapy and start back after it.”

Talley had surgery April 23 in Red Bluff. There’s no timetable on how long the Keatchie, La., cowboy will be sidelined. Talley was 24th in the April 23 PRCA | RAM World Standings with $19,542. “I know everything happens for a reason, and I have no doubt I will come back even stronger,” said Talley, 28. “I also can’t thank the other steer wrestlers for being so supportive to me. It means a lot.” Talley placed a career-best 11th in the world standings a year ago with $145,717. He earned $65,000 at the Wrangler NFR in Las Vegas. Parrott, who qualified for the Wrangler NFR in 2017, tore a tendon in his right pectoral muscle April 13 at the Oakdale (Calif.) Saddle Club Rodeo. “The steers were fresh, and the steer stopped,” said Parrott, 25. “I’ve caught and missed steers like that a bunch of times. This was just a freak deal. I’m not going to have surgery. I’m just going to do six-to-eight weeks of physical therapy and try that and hopefully it heals up good. I’m hoping I can be back competing by Reno.” This is the second-consecutive season Parrott has been injured. Parrott, who finished 12th in the 2017 world standings, had season-ending surgery Sept. 19 to repair the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Dr. Tandy Freeman performed the surgery.

In The Spotlight With Sunny B’
about $16,000 then over the 4th I won about $11,000. That put me around $30,000 and moved me in to the Top 15. That year I made my 1st NFR.
Sunny B’ was able to snag a few minutes with talented Texan Colby Lovell as he relaxed in his recliner with the family.
Sunny: Wow what a story. How did you decide to head? Colby: I feel like my foundation with a rope was heading and I knew I had to make a living for my family. If you are heeling you are just along for the ride.
Sunny: Colby how old are you Colby: I am 32 years old. Sunny: How long have you been roping and when did you decide this is what you would do to support your family? Colby: Well when you are 18 and your wife is 16 and you have a child, it puts a whole lot into perspective. When I was young I would stay at my Grandmas house and rope a goat all day long. We only had 3 steers and we had the same steers for 3 years. We roped them everyday. Then when I got into high school I knew I wanted to rodeo. Sunny: How did you get started going to the Pro Rodeos? Colby: I was roping with my cousin Justin Lovell, and we entered a few and it was going okay. I started
because I was not 21. My heart sank! I was up in slack the next morning and so I sat in the airport several hours and decided I would just fly home. It was looking pretty grim as I set there feeling heart sick. I look up and in walks Cody Demoss! I had never met him, just seen him on TV but I bear hugged him like we was long lost buddies. He rented a car and I got my ride
Sunny: Changing things up a bit, what kind of food do you like? Colby: A good ribeye
Sunny: I bet that was a good feeling? Colby: The best! Sunny: Then what? Colby: I knew I wanted to rope with Kory Koontz so bad, I just kept trying to put my name out there and keep on going. I didn’t really have a good horse at the time. He was a $3,000 job so I was realizing he wasn’t going to cut the mustard. I won some money so I went out on a
like now? Colby: I feel like I have 3 of the best horses right now that I have ever had. Sunny: What does the summer look like for you and your family. Colby: We are packing up the family and heading out together. My wife has a really nice barrel horse now. She has been placing at the last 4 or 5 rodeos she has entered. So the goal is to get us all entered at the good ones and if we have to split up and Ty and I have to fly we will do that. Sunny: Colby is this how your living is made? Colby: Absolutely. What I do on each run is a direct effect as to what my family gets to do or gets to have. If we don’t do good there is no income and that is a huge factor. So I know being out there is a huge factor and rather it be a CPRA rodeo, ranch rodeo or a jackpot. Winning is very important. Sunny: How do you do this this day in and day out? Colby: The Love Of The Game. You have to want it and love it. I truly do. I love roping and my family so the only way I can make it work is to win. If not then I am taking valuable time away from my family I can never get back.
Sunny: What kind of music do you like to listen to, what artist? Colby: I like Conway Twitty, Freddy Fender & some Gary Stuart . Old school stuff.
heading so I wanted to rope with the best. I will never forget calling Kory Koontz. I asked him to rope and he says to me, “I really don’t want to enter with a kid.” I told him I completely understood. He came down to some of the rodeos and we roped at a jackpot and we placed. Later I flew to California and was in a pretty small airport. I found out I could not rent a car
limb and bought Buffalo Hunter. It was about this same time of the year. He totally changed the game up for me. I got out to Reno and Travis Tryan had some tough luck and lost his good horse. I finally got my chance to rope with Kory and I knew I had to rope sharp and make it count. We ended up placing in both rounds and won the average. At that time we won
Cowboy Sports News Page 48 - June 19
Sunny: On average what are your practice sessions like? Colby: Either I have people over and we have a good time or when I practice for myself and my partner, Ty Arnold and I go about 3 hours. I set up every run to see how much I need to see on my score and how hard I have to ride my horse to get there. I like to take my time and focus on each run one at a time. Sunny: What is your horse power
Sunny: What are your weaknesses? Colby: I would say my dogs and the love of hog hunting. Ty and I have a lot in common here. Just spending time with my dogs and taking my kids hunting is awesome. Sunny: You were a CPRA and UPRA Champion before you left town for the pros. What do you like about those rodeos? Colby: I like the fact that I can go enter a rodeo with a chance to win good money and still be home with my family the same night. Sunny: 2019 goals? Colby: Win the gold buckle with Ty Arnold.

WCRA CONCLUDES MAY SEMI-FINALS AND PAYS OUT MORE THAN $500,000 TO ATHLETES IN FIVE DAYS GUTHRIE, OKLAHOMA--- More than $500,000 was paid out to rodeo athletes today as the World Champions Rodeo Alliance (WCRA) concluded their $500,000 semi-finals rounds in Guthrie, Oklahoma at the Lazy E Arena. The five-day event paid out more than $500,000 to cowboys and cowgirls from around the globe and out of more than 500 athletes, 76 athletes from the semi-finals advanced to the Title Town Stampede, a one-day $1 Million Major Rodeo June 1 at Resch Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin. During the semi-finals, eight athletes in each discipline (minus bulls) with the highest scores or fastest times along with the winners of the Days of ‘47 rodeo advanced to the Title Town Stampede. The one-night, $1 million rodeo will be held in conjunction with the Professional Bulls Riders (PBR) May 31-June 2 Unleash The Beast event, creating a full weekend of western lifestyle sports in one of the world’s largest mainstream markets. This evening, Ivy Conrado walked away with a $7,000 paycheck after running the best overall time with a 16.176 while Louisiana Cowboy Tristan Martin earned the number one spot in the steer wrestling and a $7,000 payday after finishing with a 4.30 time. The team roping duo Aaron Tsinigine and Logan Medlin cleared $7,000 after a 5.27 catch, good for the best overall time in the discipline. Makayla Boisjoli moved to the number one spot in breakaway roping with a 2.35 time earning $7,000 in the final round. Tanner Green closed out the timed event after winning $7,000 in the tie-down roping with a 7.31 time. During the rough stock, Garrett Shadbold received an 88-point score in the bareback and netted $7,000 in earnings during the performance as Brody Cress had an 86-point ride in saddle bronc and $7,000 payout. Jesse Petri, the only to ride in his section, will go to Green Bay with the after scoring 87.25 in
bull riding, making it a $17,500 pay day. On Sunday, June 2 fans will be able to tune into the Titletown Stampede Showdown Round on a CBS network broadcast at 1:30-2:30 P.M. ET WCRA is a professional sport and entertainment entity, created to develop and advance

Breaking It Down With Speed Williams Working with Professional Ropers Working with professional ropers is quite different than working with my usual students. Dustin Egusquiza lives fairly close and has been coming over and roping with us. He is completely phenomenal with a rope but wants to work on his horsemanship and how he prepares his horses for jackpots. He and Jake Long are new partners this year and had their second practice session at my place. I watched them rope and then we went in and watched the video. Their “go fast” runs were wild. The degree of difficulty was off the chart, but it was sure fun to watch. I first met Jake when Coleman brought him to the house. I’m still completely amazed by his ability. Understanding your weaknesses or what will eliminate you at jackpots is key. Working on what you don’t do well is the name of the game. One of the things Dustin has been working on is
learning to use his horse better. After a few days of this, he went to a jackpot and won second on a horse he’s owned for a few years. He told me had a couple of things happened there for the first time. He had three different headers tell him how fast his horse was – and that his horse looks good. He had never heard that before at a jackpot. It’s because he has always used his ability and reaching rather than using his feet to make his horse work. These guys are so talented and such pros. I’ve been blown away by their willingness to try the things I’ve asked them to do. I cut their ropes off where they only had one coil and then asked them to go fast. This forces them to use their horse and not just use their ability to overcome what the horse doesn’t do. It’s important to prepare your horse for when you leave home and not just get by him in the practice pen. How you prepare on your good horses versus how you prepare on your practice horses is totally different. Consis-
Improve faster with realistic practice using the new Speed Trainer
tently making full contact runs on your horses gets them strong in the bridle and not responding as well, especially if you rope bigger, older steers. I am a firm believer in setting up my practice situation to be harder than it will be when I leave home. That’s one of the reasons we practice on fresh mulies. Heelers can dally and it exposes how much control you really have of your head horse. Before roping steers in the practice pen I have them do drills on the Speed Trainer. Even with some of the best ropers in the world, the Speed Trainer will expose small things that are done incorrectly. If you’re pulling too much while swinging your rope it lets you know. That’s one of the biggest problems ropers have as a whole. They use the bridle reins for balance and are not able to guide their horse lightly to the steer. One of the most fun things about working with top ropers is they can change things very fast after watching themselves on video. You don’t get to be a #9 header or #10 heeler without control of your rope. I loaded video of their first practice session on speedroping.com. I will
load their individual videos talking about their horses, what they did wrong, and what we did to make their horses work better. Then we’ll show the before and after and talk about the change in their horses. It’s been fun having them here and watching them rope. What’s new with me: After a long search, we have found a place and are under contract. We left Deleon, Texas, several years ago, moved all over the state to end up back just eleven miles from where we started. I’ve been very excited with the response and results of our Speed Trainer customers. It’s very gratifying to see videos of their progress and what they’ve worked on. It’s far exceeded my expectations. When you first see the Speed Trainer the benefits are not always obvious. But once used, the improvement in roping and horsemanship can be dramatic. If you have questions, please drop me an email at justaroper@gmail.com, or a message on Facebook or Instagram. For ordering information contact Colter Buck at 903-434-8970.
