The festival was founded by the late Rod Kennedy, it is now produced by the very capable Dalis Allen. The festi val is overseen by a diverse board of di rectors from several states. ,I \RXU H[SHULHQFH LV OLNH PLQH ZKHQHYHU , WHOO SHRSOH ZKHUH ,¶P IURP HV SHFLDOO\ SHRSOH IURP 7H[DV WKH ¿UVW WKLQJ they mention is the Kerrville Folk Festival. :KHQ , ZDV LQWHUYLHZHG RQ D GLႇHUHQW WRSLF VHYHUDO ZHHNV DJR E\ D :DOO 6WUHHW Journal reporter, he wanted to talk about the Kerrville Folk Festival. The festival is widely known, and it makes a giant economic impact on our community. During its eighteen day run, tens of thousands of visitors stay in our hotels, eat in our restaurants, buy gasoline DQG JURFHULHV DQG VSHQG PRQH\ 7KH WD[ revenues from their visits help fund need ed projects in our city and county, and we DOO EHQH¿W IURP WKH HYHQW Strangely, though, our communi W\ WHQGV WR WXUQ LWV EDFN RQ WKH IHVWLYDO , have noticed, when reminding audiences or meetings of the upcoming festival, lo cals tend to smirk. They conjure up images of some of the more eccentric members of the Kerrville Folk Festival group of visitors DQG DVVXPH TXLWH ZURQJO\ WKDW 4XLHW 9DO ley Ranch becomes the hub of the hippie universe for three weeks. Local folks tend to judge the festival without having visited the festival.

Those who have actually gone to the Kerrville Folk Festival have learned something that might surprise WKRVH ZKR KDYHQ¶W EHHQ :KLOH WKHUH DUH SOHQW\ RI µFRORUIXO¶ DWWHQGHHV DW WKH Kerrville Folk Festival, there are more than a few other folk there, too. Doc tors, teachers, preachers, booksellers, FRRNV H[HFXWLYHV ZRUNLQJ IRON DQG VWX dents all go to the Kerrville Folk Festi YDO 7KH FURZGV ,¶YH VHHQ GRQ¶W ORRN WKDW PXFK GLႇHUHQW WKDQ FURZGV \RX¶G VHH LQ Antler Stadium for a Friday night foot ball game. , DWWHQGHG WKH YHU\ ¿UVW .HUU YLOOH )RON )HVWLYDO LQ ZKHQ , ZDV \HDUV ROG 7KDW ¿UVW HYHQW ZDV KHOG in the Kerrville Municipal Auditorium, ZKLFK KDG FRQFUHWH ÀRRUV DQG URZV RI folding chairs. The acoustics were just terrible. But the performers were tal ented and fun, and the crowds were enthusiastic. You can make your own fun or en joy fun arranged for you. Every event is in need of folks to help make all that fun happen.
