Favorite Game This Season:

Region final game vs. Somerset. We trailed by 12 points in the 4th quarter with 4 minutes left. We cut the lead down three late and as I went up for a layup I got fouled and got the and-one at the buzzer. With no time left, down 54-55, I knocked down the free throw for the tie to send it to overtime. In overtime we pulled away with a 69-63 win. We were only the third team in school history to be Regional Champions.

Favorite Game This Season:

Area round against Mason. I knew going into that game that we could either win by 10 or battle until the end. With ten seconds left, I put my team ahead by one and showed everyone how bad I wanted to win and how hard I had been playing that night. It honestly just felt like my kind of game and after all the trainings and practices I felt as a team we deserved to be put in that position to shine and show our true selfs.

Senior night vs. West Oso for 30-4A District Championship. I played my last high school game of my career in front of my family and home crowd. I had 21 points to lead the Lady Trojans to victory over the West Oso Lady Bears. We cut down the net one last time in front of my home town.

Favorite Basketball Memory:

When we went upstate to San Antonio. Upstate, everyone may know the teams up there are stronger and tougher. After we finished the first 2 tough games, I realized as a teammate this season was going to be a great season. It was a very amazing experience to be able to stay the night and have a two day tournament. After the tournament I believe our team grew closer within one another.

#2 Jayli Rivera

My favorite memory so far has to be our trip to San Antonio. That’s when I noticed we could bound as a team. Going over there was a lot of competition, which gave us the opportunity to play against better and improved teams. We had lots of fun together, we had a lot of hard laughs. My team makes all the times I’ve had with them fun. So in general, I would have to say every time I was with my team is my favorite memory.

The Brownsville tournament when we played Mission Vets. During that game my team worked together and lifted each other up when we needed it the most. Although we lost the game, it was the best game we have ever played. Our defense was on point and our offense was amazing! First round of district, when we played an away game against San Perlita. It was my favorite game because in the last two years, due to COVID-19 and injuries, we played San Perlita shorthanded. This year, we had a team of 10 girls and we were all healthy and excited to show up and play hard. The game was close though we held the lead the entire time. Favorite Game This Season:

Veterans Memorial the second time. We had beat them in a tournament then the beat us in district. This was the deciding game and I took over the game and felt in control. Although it wasn’t my highest scoring game I hit some of my most difficult shots even a buzzer beating three. I led my team to a victory in a very intense rivalry game.

My favorite game was the second district game against Port Isabel at home. We fell short a couple of points on our fist meeting in PI, but they were not going to deny us at home! They were undefeated and I knew I was going to need to step up my game and lock up their best player, as turn it up on offense and score a good amount to secure a victory and that’s exactly what happened. It was still a great matchup and intense game!
