#scootinamerica

When our crew hears about a good ride, we get a little excited about the prospect of going somewhere we haven’t been before. But when we hear about a good ride that also does good for others, it becomes necessary to find out the who, what, where and why of it. So when we heard about the year‐long adventure Adam Sandoval of Naples, Florida, and his well‐traveled Chihuahua sidekick, Scooter, were about to embark on we had to find out more. Adam and Scooter are on a journey which they’ve dubbed “Scootin’ America,” which will take them to every Harley‐Davidson dealership (over 690!) in the lower 48 states of the U.S. to raise funds for a charity close to Adam Sandoval’s heart.

The mission of “Scootin’ America” is to raise money for the families of fallen soldiers through The American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund. The mission of the fund is to make sure a higher education is possible for children who have lost a parent in the line of duty while serving in the military. With the rising costs of higher education and the significant shortfall of government money allotted to children of fallen soldiers in war, the Legacy Scholarship Fund is there for these kids to assist them in obtaining their higher education goals by providing financial assistance.

The ride began on November 10th, 2014, the birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps, at Six Bends Harley‐Davidson in Fort Myers, Florida. A couple days later, we had the opportunity to meet up with Adam and Scooter when they pulled into the Harley‐Davidson of Ocala dealership. In addition to raising money for a highly worthy cause, there are three new world records which will be set as well: most miles in a single country, largest group ride, and the longest charity ride. The estimated 65,000 miles to be traveled by this mixed martial artist and his sweet pup will be done as they criss‐cross the country four times. They are starting out in winter, so for this leg they’ll be sticking to the southern states and warmer weather and then will work their way up to the northern states as the weather warms.

As of this writing, the dynamic duo has made their way across the Gulf Coast and are currently riding the roads of Texas on Day 38 of their adventure. Riders are free to join in on the ride with Adam and Scooter for the day or as long as they wish by either meeting up at a Harley‐Davidson dealer or just joining in anywhere along the way for a daily contribution of just $5.00 to the ride’s charity. One of the keys to the success of this ride lies in the power of community… specifically, YOU! Get involved by donating or riding with Adam and Scooter when they come through your town. Live tracking is active on their website and you can track the travels of Scootin’ America to see when and where you can ride along. You can also check out photos from the ride by going to their facebook page.
