When Your Teeth Are Failing, IT’S TIME FOR REPLACEMENTS

Just as knees, hips, and other parts of the body may need replacing over the course of a person's life, your teeth are no different. Dental implants give you your freedom back. You'll enjoy the freedom to smile, to eat, and most importantly, the freedom to no longer experience tooth pain.

Every day we see the profound effect that failing teeth have on our patients' lives. Self-confidence is dramatically affected. This leaves the patient afraid to pursue intimate relationships, apply for job promotions, or even smile for a family photo. The systemic effects of chronically infected teeth take their toll on one's health. This is exacerbated by being relegated to a diet of processed foods because they simply can't chew healthy, whole foods.

For too many years, dentures were the only option for people with failing teeth, and this is a horrible option! A denture is

more similar to using a wooden leg to replace a body part than it is to any modern medical procedure. Many patients try to do everything they possibly can to save their failing teeth, rather than be left with the inconvenience and discomfort of dentures.

Fortunately, patients no longer have to live like this. In recent years, technology and experience have grown to allow patients to predictably and safely replace their teeth. When your knees or hips are failing, you don’t have to live with a walker or wheelchair – you get them replaced! Similarly, when your teeth are failing you can have them replaced. The same titanium that is used in knee and hip

replacements is also used as anchors in the bone for the placement of a beautiful bridge of new teeth. Most importantly, these new teeth are custom designed with your input and approval. The result is a smile that fits your face, your style, and your life. This process creates your Marquis Smile.

Millions of people are suffering from bad teeth. If this condition affects you or someone you care about, we would love the opportunity to sit down and discuss your options with you. Thank you again for taking the time to learn about what we are so passionate about.

We Understand,

HAVING BAD TEETH IS A BURDEN

If you have aching or missing teeth, you know that the pain can run deeper than just your mouth. Maybe you can't eat the things you used to enjoy. Or perhaps you find yourself smiling behind your hand, or worse yet...not smiling at all.

You might be losing your hope, your “spark”, and your identity because you just can't interact with people the same way you used to, not your family, not people at work, not even with your life partner.

We created The Marquis Procedure with the commitment of giving you back your life. We will custom-craft a beautiful natural-looking smile with dental implants that are permanently affixed into your mouth.

Since every person has a unique bone structure and health history, we won't take a cookie-cutter approach to your new smile. Instead, we’ll develop an individualized treatment plan that will fit you like a glove. The Marquis Center can help you lift your burden by restoring your smile.

DR. ANDREW MUELLER

Dr. Andrew Mueller is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon dual trained in dentistry and medicine. Originally from Southern Illinois, Dr. Mueller received his dental degree with honors from the Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine. His medical degree was obtained from the prestigious UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas.

Following medical school, Dr. Mueller completed an internship in General Surgery. This gives him a solid foundation to manage the most medically complex patients. He received extensive anesthesia training and completed his surgical residency at UT Southwestern/Parkland Memorial Hospital. He specifically sought out this hospital because it is internationally known as one of the premier training programs in the specialty of oral and maxillofacial surgery.

When it comes to dental implants, experience matters. Long-term success with dental implants strongly correlates to precise implant placement, expert surgical planning, and state-of-the art prosthesis design. Dr. Mueller places approximately 3,000 dental implants each year, ranking him among the leading oral surgeons in the United States. Patients with challenging or previously failed cases have traveled from across the country to see Dr. Mueller.

DR. DANIELLE LARIVEY

Dr. Danielle Larivey heads up cosmetic dentistry for The Marquis Center, including serving as our Chief Custom Smile Artist. She focuses her practice on what she loves: working alongside patients to design a beautiful, confident smile that is unique for each individual, while also restoring important function.

Dr. Larivey graduated magna cum laude from Texas State University where she received her Bachelors of Science in Biology. The University of Texas Health Science Center in the heart of San Antonio, is where Dr. Larivey graduated dental school at the top of her class, magna cum laude with honors in Research. After completing dental school, she completed a residency in Advanced Education in General Dentistry. You could say, Dr. Larivey’s educational history has a theme: finishing at the top and always striving to be the best. That dedication to being the best extends to the quality of work she does at The Marquis Center.

Dr. Larivey’s vision for patients who could previously only be offered dentures coincides perfectly with that of the Marquis Center: to give people the opportunity to eat a normal diet without pain or embarrassment, and to laugh and smile freely again.

Dr. Larivey was born in San Antonio, and just like the commitment she makes to her patients, she has happily made Texas her permanent home.

NEW SMILES, TOGETHER

After years of dealing with broken teeth and pain, a couple both chose to restore their smiles and their confidence to be active again.

Kathy Wilkerson was struggling with her self-confidence due to gaps in her smile where teeth had fallen out. “I felt old with my teeth missing,” explains Kathy, who was an administrator in health care before retirement. Her position required a lot of interaction with patients and doctors every day.

When her teeth started to fail her, it affected her job. She could no longer address people with confidence.

Kathy and her husband Charlie also love to travel. But, with the missing teeth, Kathy didn’t want to be seen. She didn’t want to travel. She just wanted to hide.

Like many people, Kathy was a little fearful about going to the dentist. However, after

seeing a Facebook advertisement for The Marquis Center, Kathy decided it was time to regain her life.

“We know that a lot of patients have dental phobia,” explains Dr. Andrew Mueller. “We do everything possible to make the environment as welcoming as possible.”

To make the dental implant process calm and relaxing, almost all procedures at The Marquis Center are done under appropriate sedation.

After an informative consultation with our doctors, Kathy decided to take the plunge and get a "double": implants and teeth replacement on both the top and bottom of her smile. The restoration procedure results have been life-changing for Kathy.

“With the new teeth, I feel younger...I don’t look like I’m in my 60’s anymore.”

“With the new teeth, I feel younger,” says Kathy with pride. She was so inspired by her new smile that she added a new hairstyle to go with it. “I don’t look like I’m in my 60’s anymore.”

In fact, the teeth replacement procedure was such a positive experience, Kathy’s husband Charlie decided to see what The Marquis Center could do for him.

As a young man in the Army, Charlie had a surgical procedure on his mouth. This osteotomy made Charlie’s teeth susceptible to damage later on. Like Kathy, Charlie longed to have a confident smile again.

After seeing how much The Marquis Procedure helped his wife, Charlie had a full arch replacement done for his top teeth. “It’s worth it,” says Kathy of The Marquis Procedure that dramatically improved the lives of her and her husband. “We are very active now. Having teeth makes you want to go out more. Now I can smile at people and eat food."

“My husband loved me without teeth, but he loves me better with them,” laughs Kathy.

“At first, we were worried about the cost and the time, but we are so happy we did this. It was well worth it.” reflects Kathy.

When it comes to having a smile that is customized for you, The Marquis Center is where the magic happens.

RESTORE YOUR HEALTH

Poor mouth health can impact your whole body and put you at risk for serious health problems.

Cardiovascular disease is a common risk for those with periodontal disease or gum disease. Bacteria that is present in gum disease can travel through your arteries, building up plaque and hardening. This can lead to blood flow problems and heart blockage.

Gum disease can also lead to higherthan-normal blood sugar levels, putting a person at a greater risk for diabetes. Teeth that hurt while eating can also contribute to a diet that lacks nutrients, putting one at further risk for diabetes.

Other avoidable risks that can be caused by poor oral health includes respiratory infections, kidney disease, rheumatoid arthritis, infertility, and more.

If your gums are inflamed or you're having trouble eating due to pain, it's important you see a dental professional. The Marquis Center treats patients every day whose health previously declined due to gum disease or other dental issues.

Don't put off dental care any longer! Our team of specialists will provide a no cost, no obligation, custom treatment plan for you at your consultation.

We've Never Turned A Patient Away Due To

SEVERE BONE LOSS

Our team of board certified medical surgeons treat patients who have been turned away by other dental professionals due to bone loss. Because of our doctors' advanced training and expertise, we've helped patients who thought they would never be able to smile again.

Theresa went to eight different surgeons before coming to The Marquis Center. She had heard "no" so many times due to her severe bone loss that she thought she would spend the rest of her life wearing uncomfortable dentures. After a consultation with our doctors, everything changed.

"My life before dental implants wasn't a happy one. It was a very

sad one. I didn't smile very much or eat in front of anyone for the fear of the dentures falling out," says Theresa when describing her life before The Marquis Procedure.

Theresa received both upper and lower full arch dental implants despite her lack of jaw bone. Using advanced technology and extensive experience treating patients with limited maxilla (upper jaw bone), Dr. Mueller was able to restore Theresa's smile. She can now properly eat, drink, and smile again thanks to The Marquis Center.

"The Marquis Center gave me back hope. They gave me back life. They gave me back adventure. Now I have a reason to smile," beams Theresa, showing off her permanent new teeth.

What To Expect During Your

MARQUIS PROCEDURE RECOVERY

Since our doctors are not only oral surgeons, but medical doctors as well, they are especially equipped to minimize pain before, during, and after The Marquis Procedure. They use the most advanced technology and medications available to make you as comfortable and relaxed as possible.

In fact, when asked to rate their pain level, most of our patients say the procedure was much less painful than they expected. How quick is recovery? Most

patients are back to work in less than one week!

The healing period will only take several weeks. During this time, you are instructed to eat a soft food diet. Soft food is generally anything you can cut with the side of a fork. A list of foods will be provided to you during your complimentary consultation, so you'll be prepared before the day of your procedure.

It's important to eat soft, nutritious foods following your procedure so your body

can heal. While each patient's recovery period varies based on their age and health, patients typically receive their final set of zirconia implants 4-6 months after their procedure.

Throughout every step of your recovery, our team is here to answer your questions and track the progress of your healing.

Our goal is to get your mouth healthy and restore your smile. Your health and happiness are our top concerns.

PAT'S NEW CONFIDENCE

Sometimes even the most outgoing people can have problems with their overall self-confidence if they are living with deteriorating, cracked, or missing teeth.

Pat Mendoza is a very intelligent career woman with a vivacious personality. Pat is active in her church and had a successful 20-year career as an interpreter for the deaf before moving into the medical field. She and her late husband David raised two beautiful, well-adjusted daughters who then turned them into adoring grandparents.

Pat had always been the kind of person who would light up a room just by walking in. But after her teeth started to show visible deterioration, she didn’t project that aura anymore. Her confidence started to wane. She would walk in the room and go hide in a corner.

Pat’s challenges with her teeth were the result of a lifetime of putting the needs of her loved ones before her own. Pat’s mother had a total of 10 children that she had to raise as a single

parent. Money was tight. Trips to the dentist were simply not an option. In fact, even having toothpaste in the house was not a guarantee.

While their mother worked, Pat was in charge of raising her four younger siblings. It was a role that required sacrifice. When the family did have toothpaste, Pat made sure it went to her brothers and sisters.

“There are seasons in our lives where we end up putting ourselves last,” explains Pat.

After a childhood without access to dental care, as an adult Pat began experiencing the trauma of cracking and failing teeth.

Pat started to research dental implants, but at the time she and her husband had two daughters in school. She didn’t want them to go without the way she had.

www.marquiscenters.com 9 MARQUIS SMILE
“I took care of everyone else for so long. Now, it was time to take care of myself.”

“I wanted the best for them,” explains Pat. This included braces for both girls. Again, Pat’s needs were put on the back burner.

Pat would visit the dentist when she could, spending all day in the dental chair and being charged offensive amounts of money. However, these fixes always turned out to be what Pat calls “Band-Aids”. They were temporary at best, and in the end she was still cursed with a smile she couldn’t stand looking at in the mirror.

She started to withdraw. Her husband said he saw her spark starting to fade.

According to Psychology Today, confidence is not a fixed characteristic. Rather, it can be improved on over time by taking actions to support a healthy self-image.

For Pat the magic to reclaiming her selfconfidence was as simple as investing in a customized smile through The Marquis Center.

With their daughters grown and with families of their own, finally, it was time for Pat and her husband to make her smile a priority.

“I took care of everyone else for so long. Now, it was time to take care of myself,” she says.

Pat had full mouth dental implants performed at The Marquis Center– replacing both her top and bottom teeth. She was surprised by how little pain and recovery time was involved. And, she started getting compliments right away.

“If I had kept doing Band-Aids, I probably would have spent two or three times what I paid for the implants,” summarizes Pat.

Not only did Pat save money in the long run, she also got her confidence back. And that is priceless.

What Are The Advantage Of

MARQUIS IMPLANTS AND ZIRCONIA TEETH?

What Are Marquis Smiles Made Of?

The Marquis Center uses implants made from titanium, which is extremely strong, hypoallergenic, and promotes bone growth around each implant. These dental implants are permanent, and will prevent any further jaw deterioration.

The permanent teeth placed on the implants are made from a material consisting of zirconium and oxygen. Although zirconium is a metal, due to oxidation it has the characteristics of a ceramic material. Zirconia is also hypoallergenic, resistant to corrosion, and 10 times stronger than natural teeth.

Zirconia teeth are cleaned and maintained like your natural teeth, and will allow you to have full chewing range of motion. The porcelain is hand layered by our team of artists on top of zirconia, giving your teeth and gums striations and shading so they mimic natural teeth. With proper maintenance, your zirconia teeth can last a lifetime.

What Are Dentures Made Of?

According to the National Institute of Health, acrylic resin or plastic has become the highest on-demand material for dentures. This isn't necessarily a good thing. Acrylic dentures tend to wear fast, and the shape of the teeth may even change as you continue to bite your food over the course of time. Dentures typically last only 5-10 years.

Since dentures are not permanent, they will not prevent bone loss or allow you to chew properly. They are also high-maintenance and require frequent cleaning, soaking, and adhesive glue. Further, the gum and tooth color do not appear natural.

DESIGNING YOUR SMILE

STEP 1

We call this step your "Smile Design." It all begins with The Marquis Center gathering records:

• A digital 3D image of your teeth and supporting structures

• A maxillofacial CT scan

• Facial and smiling photos

• Your vision for the shape and color of your ideal smile

STEP 2

Each of these elements are layered one on top of the other by our Smile Engineers, and then presented to the doctors. Your doctor will then design your smile to your face using computer aided design and modeling. This creates your perfect smile.

STEP 2

We design your new smile down to the tenth of a millimeter. This way it fits your jaw comfortably and is proportionate to your facial features. Once the full arch has been 3D printed, the shading is hand painted.

STEP 3

Your new custom smile is placed into your mouth by our maxillofacial surgeons using dental implants.

What makes a Marquis Smile beautiful?

• It is appropriately sized to proportions of the face

• It is a shade that matches the patient’s age

• It fits the frame of the lips perfectly

Your Biggest Hurdle Is PICKING UP THE PHONE

We understand that living with poor oral health can make you feel isolated, judged, and insecure.

While having bad teeth can contribute to physical health problems, it can also negatively affect your mental health.

Every day we talk to patients who haven't smiled in years. They dread giving presentations, taking photos, and feel like they're missing out on life due to their teeth. We've even had patients who have hidden the condition of their mouth from loved ones due to embarrassment.

Depression and anxiety due to bad teeth are common. Maybe your teeth keep breaking, or you can't wear your dentures because they cause you pain. You don't need to suffer any longer. Dental implants are a permanent solution.

While dental implants may feel intimidating, the biggest hurdle you'll need to face is calling The Marquis Center.

Our team is here to help you schedule your consultation without judgment of your situation. We know there are many factors that can contribute to failing teeth, but our goal is the same for every patient: restoring your confidence and your smile.

Once you've scheduled your complimentary consultation, our team will do the rest. You can finally relax knowing that you're in the hands of a staff who care about your well-being.

One of the most common things we hear from patients who have received The Marquis Procedure is "I wish I wouldn't have waited".

We treat patients everyday who felt hopeless before dental implants. They chose to pick up the phone to change their lives, and you can too!

DR. SPEARS' SELF-INVESTMENT

Noteveryone is blessed with great genetics. Even though they brushed and flossed religiously growing up, some people lose their teeth simply because they are genetically predisposed.

Dr. Phil Spears is the definition of a good man. He married his high school sweetheart, Betty Lou, and they are still as in love as they were 66 years ago. Dr. Spears spent his entire career in education, teaching and advocating for children as a school principal.

Working in public education is not a glamorous job, nor is it the key to financial riches. People like Dr. Spears dedicate their lives to instilling knowledge in our youth because it is a noble and altruistic calling, not because it is going to bring them fame or fortune.

Despite a lifelong commitment to caring for his teeth, Dr. Spears was simply destined from birth to have trouble with them. Over the course of his life, he spent untold thousands of dollars on bridges and other procedures. Ultimately, though, all the costly Band-Aids failed, and left Dr. Spears with a disaster on the top of his mouth. “My teeth were really bad,” explains Dr. Spears. “I’d spent all this money with nothing to show for it.”

After decades of dental work and expensive procedures, Dr. Spears had a mishmash of different toned implants, broken posts, defective bridges, and glaring holes where teeth should be. And he was told there would be more procedures needed with no end in sight. It was a bad experience to say the least. After that Dr. Spears decided to look for a better solution.

How The Marquis Procedure Can Save You From Decades of Dental Pain, Procedures, and Frustration.
15 MARQUIS SMILE www.marquiscenters.com
“I always had problems with my teeth. If I had just done this when I was in my 40’s, I would have been so much better off."

“I figured why not just go get full implants and be done with it?” remembers Dr. Spears. “They’re strong. They’re sturdy.”

Because it is not a small dollar investment, Dr. Spears equates his choosing The Marquis Center to provide his ideal smile to the decision one makes when buying a car. You want quality proven over years of excellence.

“All the prices were about the same, but it comes down to quality,” the long-time educator explains.

What impressed Dr. Spears with The Marquis Center was more than just a track record of success. “It went beyond that. When I first went in there, they treated me like family. They still treat me like family. They make you feel special.”

The other thing that impressed Dr. Spears was that The Marquis Center offers a custom smile. He didn’t want a bright white "Hollywood Smile." He still has his bottom teeth and wanted his full arch upper implants to match them.

Dr. Spears got the natural, age-appropriate smile he wanted. Even more impressive, says Dr. Spears, is that the procedure really didn’t hurt.

It was a long road to get there, but in the end, Dr. Spears has a carefree smile he and his beautiful wife Betty Lou can be proud of. And he can finally eat things like popcorn again.

Sometimes what seems like a big investment can actually save a lot of money in the long run.

“I always had problems with my teeth. If I had just done this when I was in my 40’s, I would have been so much better off," summarizes Dr. Spears – saying so with a smile.

When shopping for a car, it can feel overwhelming deciding what vehicle works best for you. Choosing a dental implant provider shouldn't be that difficult.

Is Your Diet Suffering From

LOSING THE ABILITY TO CHEW?

DENTURES

DENTAL IMPLANTS

Dentures can dramatically weaken your bite. That’s because dentures just sit on top of your gums, which aren’t meant to support the force of your bite.

Your Marquis Smile with dental implants will mimic natural teeth.

A common problem with dentures is that food gets trapped up underneath them. This can be especially painful with small, hard, and jagged pieces of seeds or nuts.

Your Marquis Smile with dental implants will mimic natural teeth.

Soft food does not just get caught up under the denture; it can stick to the denture. To prevent this you have to constantly wash your dentures, especially after meals.

Dentures can become dislodged when chewing. Natural chewing technique involves a range of motions, but with dentures you're limited to basic up and down movements.

HOLLYWOOD VS. NATURAL MARQUIS SMILES

While all of our patients want a healthy mouth, the look they desire for their Marquis Smile may differ from person to person.

Some patients want what we call a "Hollywood Smile", meaning they envision an eyecatching, ultra-white smile like many famous celebrities. The aesthetics of this kind of smile can make a dramatic change to the patient's appearance and will be a noticeable and vibrant difference.

The second kind of smile

The Marquis Center designs is a "Natural Smile." Patients who choose this style are wanting a smile that is more age appropriate and a less dramatic change because the shading will be darker. If you choose a natural design, you will still undergo a major transformation, but your smile will mimic real teeth. This will give

you the appearance that you've had strong, healthy teeth all along.

There is no difference in the durability or the amount of care that goes into every detail of your new smile. If you are unsure which route you'd like to choose, our Marquis Team is here to help walk you through the decisionmaking process. You will see examples, shading colors, and discuss what your smile goals are with our Smile Specialists.

Just as no two patients are the same, neither are their smiles. Your custom smile is designed specifically for you and your personal smile goals. Rest assured that whether you choose a bright white smile, or a more natural look, you will leave The Marquis Center with your teeth restored. You will love the look of your new smile.
