4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.[a] 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. keeps your stress at bay? I always try to keep in perspective what matters most. There are things in life that we feel like we need to do or have to do. However, compared to investing into the lives of our children and others, those things pale in comparison. So, first is keeping the right perspective. Enjoying time with family and friends really helps keep my stress levels down. 12. Favorite movie? Honestly, don’t have one. 13. Last book you read or are currently reading? A school textbook - The Cradle, The Cross, and The Crown, Andreas J. Köstenberger, Leonard Scott Kellum 14. Personal time, what do you do for yourself ? Ha! What is personal time? I really don’t have much of this, but when I do have a little time I usually spend it studying, kayaking, or fishing. 15. What keeps the spark in your marriage? With the busyness of raising four children among other daily activities, we have found that it is re-
ally important to make sure we take time to have conversation together. Good communication is very important for a healthy marriage. 16. What’s your favorite holiday tradition? Reading about the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ every Christmas morning. 17. How does your family celebrate children’s birthdays? We rotate between two ways of celebrating each year. One year we will let the kids have a more traditional get together with some friends. The next year we let the kids pick a fun activity for us to do together as a family. For example, one year we all went horseback riding for my daughter’s birthday. 18. How do you manage your schedule to ensure quality time with your family? Prioritize, prioritize, prioritize. Keeping a list always helps me focus on what is most important so that I can make sure I am not overwhelmed by our very full schedule. As a husband and father, I always have to be very intentional

about spending both quantity and quality time with my family. The only way to do this is by keeping it at the top of the list! We have recently started using a family calendar app which has been great at keeping us all on task. 19. Have you served as your child’s sports team coach? Which child and sport? Do you recommend coaching your children? I have coached both of my older kids in basketball and I would definitely recommend coaching your children. This is a great opportunity to spend time with them, and it provides another avenue for you to instill great character in them. I see every opportunity that we spend with our children
as a chance to teach them or “coach them” to be more like Jesus. 20. What is a favorite memory from when your children were young? For my two older children it would be when they put their faith and trust in Jesus Christ. 21. What’s your average grocery bill? Too much! Need to get my own cow and chickens. 22. Defining moment in fatherhood? As a family we have chosen to serve in foster care ministry. This has been a very challenging path for us with joyous moments and also very heartbreaking moments. Through the good and the sad parts of this journey, our family has huddled together, cried, and prayed as

we have trusted God for each step. While this has been hard, serving together has been a great joy and blessing for me as a father. 23. Advice to new/ young dads? Knowing and serving Jesus Christ must be your central focus as a husband and father. With Him as center of everything you do, you can then lead your family to have Him as the center of their life as well. 24.Last comments? I find that being a dad in today’s hectic culture is extremely challenging. I certainly do not get it right all the time and often find the need to slow down and refocus on what matters. I know I will never be a perfect father, but I have learned that being a connected and loving father is what my children really need.

working. Guests will be able to ask questions to the printers and learn about the printing industry. Linotype: The Film is a feature-length documentary centered around the Linotype type casting machine. Called the “Eighth Wonder of the World” by Thomas Edison, it revolutionized printing and society. The film tells the charming and emotional story of the people connected to the Linotype and how it impacted the world. The Linotype (pronounced “line-o-type”) completely transformed the communication of information similarly to how the internet is now changing communication again. Although these machines were revolutionary, technology began to supersede the Linotype and they were scrapped and melted-down by the thousands. Today, very few machines are still in existence. The highly-skilled operators of the Linotype are in a battle against time. If their skills are not passed along to a new generation of operators, the machine will die com-

pletely. There is a small group of former operators that want to save the Linotype from the scrap yard, but some see this as a fruitless endeavor. What place does the Linotype have in the age of new technology? Should the machine be shoved into a museum and left to rust? Why should anyone care about typography or the technology of communication? The film seeks to answer these questions. FEBRUARY 15

LA Theatre Works performs this modern classic with their signature audio theater format featuring actors of the stage and screen, live sound effects, and a spontaneous, intimate live theater experience. Within the walls of Truvy’s beauty shop, set deep in the bayous of Louisiana, are six strong women whose lives increasingly hinge on their relationships with one another. Together, they absorb the passing seasons, just like the weathered wooden structure of the salon “home” that they share. At turns, both laugh-out-loud funny and deeply touching, Steel Magnolias reveals the strength of the human condition and our shared need for companionship.
Unmatched talent, a passion for ministry, and a deep love for the church. For 20 years these have been constants for the musical tour de force known as Selah.
