Please attend the programs you have registered for unless otherwise notified. No registrations are taken over the phone or without full payment. We only accept cash or checks. Please make check payable to the City of Harlingen. The City of Harlingen Parks and Recreation Department may take photos of participants enrolled in all programs. SUMMER TRACK PROGRAM Training will be provided for track and field events! In addition, participants will have the opportunity to compete in track meets across the Rio Grande Valley. State qualifiers will compete in the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF) Summer Games of Texas in College Station, Texas July 30-August 2. Program runs from Monday June 1st through July, 11th (Qualifiers for the Games of Texas will continue training until July 28th.) SUMMER PLAYGROUND PROGRAM Get ready for an “Outdoor Adventure”. This summer Harlingen’s Playground Program is bringing the outdoors to you. With themes like Ocean Fun, Survival Camp, and a Pirate Party, your kids will be having a blast as they play games, make crafts, and go on fieldtrips relevant to these themes. Tai Chi is known for its slow moving attributes, but little do people know that if done correctly Tai Chi is a great work out as well as a self defense system. TEXAS TWO-STEP DANCE LESSONS
If you feel dancing is just too hard, then Tejano is for you. This fun class includes learning very basic foot-work to medium and advanced dance steps in both Polka and Cumbia beats. If you can walk, then you are halfway there. No partner required, but recommended.
Cumbia has a characteristic heartbeat rhythm that you’ll know if you ever heard it, and is a great tool to start learning any Latin American dance style. Come and learn how to do basic to advanced dance steps in CUMBIA.
Come and see how easy it is to learn the Texas Two-Step! Instruction is well paced and includes the learning of proper dance etiquette, correct footwork, turning as a couple, and the very popular WHIP turn. No partner required, but recommended.

Bring your little ones to learn the basics of Tap Dance and Ballet. They will receive a full hour of instruction on creative movement to a number of fun songs. Along with starting the foundation of dance, Lorri will help your child increase coordination and spatial awareness.

Tony Butler Golf Course is a twenty-seven hole course complete with driving range, putting and chipping greens, snack bar and Pro Shop. The 18-hole course is a championship layout measuring 6,400 yards, par 71. The 9-hole course is a shorter course measuring 2,600 yards, par 35. Continuous paved cart paths have been installed on all 27 holes.

Hill Park “Fair Park” from 5:00 to 11:00 p.m. Come and spend your Four of July weekend celebrating with the City of Harlingen. “KEVIN FOWLER, American Texas Country Artist” will be headlining for the 3rd Annual Freedom Fest starting on Saturday, July 4th. This two-day festival will consist of community service organizations, businesses, and other vendors who will be providing free fun activities, arts, and crafts for the kids. There will be booths selling food and merchandise for the thousands of people that attend the festival. The City of Harlingen will have a Fireworks Display on July 4th. 2015 BIRDING FOR FUN CLASSES All Classes will meet Tuesdays at Ramsey Park at 6:30 – 7:30 pm. All classes are FREE and open to adults and teens, and will include crafts for younger kids! If you do not have binoculars or bird guides we will have some available for your use. Learn how to ID birds using your optics. We will also cover a few Apps available for smart phones. June 9th – What to look for to Identify a Bird Beaks, legs, wing bars, eye rings, crests all contribute to the identification of a bird. Learn to distinguish species by profiles and other physical features. Habitats (ground birds, tree tops etc.) and habits (tail bobbing, thrashing) are also keys to identity. June 16th – Birding Ethics, Etiquette & Techniques Want to become a good birder? Learn to practice a good Birding Code of Ethics and a little birding etiquette. June 23rd – RGV Birds – found nowhere else in the U.S. What special birds call the Rio Grande Valley home and what are their habitats? June 30th – Fall and Spring Migrants What migratory flyway does the Rio Grande Valley belong to? What are some of the birds that migrate through the Valley, and when and where can we expect to see them?
