Is It Too Late?

I sincerely hope not. We have a proud history. Even though there is proof that others such as Vikings set foot on American soil before Christopher Columbus, we give him the credit of discovering America in 1492 and that is ok because the important event for us happened in 1776 when the colonists declared themselves independent.

The American Revolution was an insurrection carried out by 13 of Great Britain’s North American colonies that began in 1775 and ended with a peace treaty in 1783. thus forming the United States of America. Although we have been through tumultuous times including the civil war and two world wars we have remained a proud- God fearing people, proud of our country and our heritage but I fear that could come to an end. It is not too late if, as Christians, you vote your principles this fall.

Vote for the most pro-life candidate because God hates the shedding of innocent blood. Proverbs 17, for the most pro-Israel candidate, because God blesses those who Bless Israel and curses those who don’t. Genesis 12:3 for the most pro-debt reduction candidate because the borrower is servant to the lender. Proverbs 22:7, for the most pro-work candidate because God says if a man won’t work let him not eat. 2nd Thessalonians 3:10, for the most Pro-Marriage candidate because God is for marriage as defined in Genesis 2:24,for the candidate who most closely believes government’s purpose is to reward good and punish evil. A Historic Grand Opening: Splendora’s First Brick-and-Mortar Food Pantry

We are overjoyed to announce that on September 3rd, 2024, we will celebrate the grand opening of the first-ever brick-and-mortar food pantry in the history of Splendora! This significant milestone marks a new chapter of hope and support for our community. The Care and Share Food Pantry will be open twice a week, allowing us to reach more families than ever before.

L to R: Joe Contreras-Program Director, Kristine Marlow-President and CEO of the Montgomery County Food Bank, Shawn and Shannon NelsonFounders of the H-Town Dream Center, Joshua Mason-Development Director of H-Town Dream Center, Alonna Johnson-Program Coordinator of the Food Bank in front of the new coolers and freezers.

This achievement was made possible through our partnership with the Montgomery County Food Bank. With the invaluable assistance of Kristine Marlow, President and CEO, Joe Contreras, Program Director, and Alonna Johnson, Program Coordinator, we now have the final piece needed to transform our vision into reality. Together, we installed new walk-in coolers and freezers, allowing us to continue serving over 1 million meals annually and ensure no family goes hungry.

“No child should go to bed hungry,” says Shannon Nelson, founder of the H-Town Dream Center, emphasizing the core mission of this endeavor.

Hours of Operation

The Care and Share Food Pantry will be open every Tuesday and Thursday. Additionally, our Mobile Food Distributions will continue to operate on the 1st and 3rd Friday of every month, focusing on “Healthy Mobiles” with fresh produce.

The Dream Center’s Three Pillars

At the heart of the H-Town Dream Center are our three pillars: Feeding the Hungry, Rescuing Women and Children in Crisis, and Educating At-Risk Youth.

Feeding the Hungry: Our new brick-and-mortar food pantry, along with our mobile markets,

ensures that we can provide nutritious meals and essential goods to even more families in need.

Rescuing Women and Children in Crisis: Our House of Hope offers safe housing and comprehensive support services for women and children escaping human trafficking, domestic violence, and crisis pregnancies.

Educating At-Risk Youth: Our Community Center offers a variety of programs, including leadership training, financial literacy, health and wellness programs, and a state-of-the-art computer lab, all designed to empower the next generation to succeed.

Recent Disaster Relief Efforts

When disaster strikes, the H-Town Dream Center shines as a beacon of hope. During the recent winter storm, our Community Center transformed into an emergency shelter. Partnering with organizations like Lakewood Church Warehouse, Convoy of Hope, and HEB, we provided shelter, meals, and warmth to hundreds of families. Our efforts included setting up emergency heating stations and distributing blankets, hot meals, and medical supplies, helping over 1000 families find relief.

How You Can Get Involved

We need your support to continue making a difference. Here are three ways you can get involved:

1. Volunteer: We need volunteers to help us run the food pantry now that we will be open twice a week. Sign up at www.htowndreamcenter.org/ volunteer.

2. Donate: Your donations make our work possible. Contribute at www. htowndreamcenter.org/donate.

3. Spread the Word: Share our mission with your friends, family, and community.

Your Voice….. Voting From the Christian Perspective

As we enter into another election cycle in our great nation, we find many different candidates from several various political parties.

Each candidate has their own set of agendas, topics, and perspectives. Unfortunately, the political campaign trail is littered with insults, half truths, and mostly verbal attacks on the opposing candidate.

So the challenge is where does the Christian and local church stand in all of this chaos?

We stand where we have always stood, grounded in our faith and in the word of the Lord, the Bible.

So let’s look at voting from the Christian perspective. The greatest power and right that we have as an American citizen is the power of a vote. We should always let our voice be heard in all levels of government. The power of the Christian voice must be heard in our community. Be engaged and exercise your right to let your voice be heard and vote.

Here are a few items that I believe that a Christian should consider in every election.

•The first step in every election is prayer. Prayer for our elected leaders. Pray for our nation. We need to fulfill the call to be a “light to our world”. Our nation needs good leaders, strong leaders, resolute leaders, and believers in every office of local, state, and national government.

•We must be an educated voter. We must do our homework and decide which candidates’ agenda aligns the most with our Christian values.

•We must not be afraid to speak life with our vote as a Christian. The voice of a Christian should be used in the power of the pen . Psalm 45:1 KJV — My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.

•Our Christian values are being attacked in almost every level of government. We must be an active participant in our government. As a Christian we have the responsibility to share and protect our values. We are called to be a light into a dark world.

Matthew 5:14 – 15:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

•Be the light that the Lord has called us to be and get out and vote.

I am reminded of various “Get out the vote” slogans and sayings. One that resonates with me as an American is “Every election is determined by the people who show up”. We must be a body of Christian believers that is willing to take a stand and show up to vote.

Jeff Crider is the Pastor of Crockett United Pentecostal Church in Crockett Texas. He has been in the ministry for over 23 years. Jeff and his wife Deena have been married for 23 years and have 2 sons Lance and Kayse. They have served in several capacities at several churches over their 23 years of ministry.

President Ronald Reagan said “The right to vote is the crown jewel of American liberties, and we will not see its luster diminished.”

So, I encourage you to take the time and get out to vote because our future is in your vote. Vote your principles, vote your values and vote your truths. Our nation needs your Christian voice.

¿Tu voz.....

By involving community volunteers in the oversight of school campuses, Cleveland ISD is fostering a strong sense of shared responsibility for safety. These volunteers play a vital role in monitoring various aspects of the school day, ensuring that students can focus on learning in a secure environment. The C.O.P.S program not only enhances safety but also strengthens the bond between the district and the community, creating a supportive and protective educational ecosystem.

Sorcha, the drug detection dog, has quickly become a beloved member of the Cleveland ISD family. With her keen senses and friendly demeanor, she makes the daily campus visits a positive experience for students and staff. Sorcha’s role in the district is essential in ensuring a drugfree environment where students can learn and thrive without

unnecessary distractions. Her presence is a symbol of Cleveland ISD’s proactive approach to maintaining a safe and drug-free school environment, reinforcing the district’s commitment to the well-being of its students.

In summary, Cleveland ISD’s impressive growth, commitment to academic excellence, and dedication to the safety and security of its students make it a standout district in the Texas educational landscape. The success stories of its graduates and the innovative programs in place continue to set high standards for education and provide a nurturing environment for students to flourish. MONEY MATTERS IN MAGNOLIA ISD!

Magnolia ISD is excited to launch a comprehensive communications project called Money Matters in Magnolia ISD. This project is designed to create an informed community surrounding public school finance and the Magnolia ISD budget. In MISD, we keep our focus on the main thing: our students.

But money matters when it comes to being good stewards of our taxpayer dollars and providing opportunities and resources to support student learning and success.

Magnolia ISD has a history of passing balanced budgets, spending conservatively to support student learning, and paying down voter-approved bond debt early to save local taxpayers money. MISD also has a history of hiring the best educators and support staff and providing competitive salaries and benefits. Still, school funding in Texas and rising inflationary costs are adding stress to all school budgets. Magnolia ISD has not been immune from these pressures.

Texas School Finance

Funding Remains Stagnant While

Inflation Rises

Schools across Texas are facing budget constraints as inflation rises and state funding remains flat.

Despite a $32.7 billion surplus, Texas’ 88th Legislature did not increase the basic student allotment or provide funds to address teacher salaries. Instead, districts were left with more underfunded mandates and empty promises

•Texas ranks 40th among 50 US states in funding public education.

•Texas teachers are paid about $8,000 below the national average.

•The Texas Legislature has not increased the $6,160 basic student allotment since 2019. That’s five years of continually being asked to do more, with less, despite inflation and rising costs.

Local School Budget

Magnolia ISD Prioritizes Quality Staff and Smaller Class Sizes

MISD’s $134 million operating budget is predominantly used to cover labor costs for employees. In fact, approximately 86% of the district’s budget is allocated to personnel costs, covering both salaries and benefits.

•Thankfully, Magnolia ISD has prioritized:

•Conservative spending;

•Paying off voter-approved bonds early, and

•Balancing school budgets

Salary Freeze in MISD

One item setting MISD apart from many other districts was the fiscally prudent decision to freeze salaries for the 2023-24 school year. Given record inflation and the state’s inaction to support public schools, maintaining our balanced budget has proven fiscally wise and prudent and has allowed us to avoid layoffs many districts are facing.

In May, the MISD School Board approved paying $1.1 million for a 1% raise to all employees. This increase in local salaries must be carried forward year after year.

The Board also approved a one-time retention payment of $500 to staff, costing $1.2 million, which avoids the multi-year impact on the budget.

As a result, Magnolia ISD is launching a new website to educate our families about the basics of public school finance. Our hope is that understanding Money Matters in Magnolia ISD will ignite interest and a conversation in our community. MISD students deserve opportunities to learn and thrive without facing program and budget cuts, and we want to be able to recruit, reward and retain the very best educators to support student success.

Please take a few moments to visit our Money Matters website. Ultimately, the hope is this will create greater understanding as the district educates and engages with families.

God Will Take Care of You

He seemed helpless and alone. During a storm, a baby bird fell from its nest in our tree. He was the only one of three baby birds to survive the fall.

As the sun beamed down on its little pink body, it seemed impossible for him to survive. One thing I did remember about this bird species is that if it is not hurt, leave it alone. It was hard to do. I could not leave him in the hot sun.

I searched for an answer online to find a way to move him. I was pleasantly surprised when I returned to check on him. He had moved himself out of the sun and was resting in the shade under the tree. I began to realize that this little bird was a fighter. He was determined and used all the strength he had. Now, he was hungry because his mouth was opened wide. I researched again on what to feed him. When I returned, I found his mother watching from a tree above him. She swooped down and fed him, and then she was gone.

By the end of the week, the baby bird had made his way across our yard. He hid under some bricks for protection and shade. His feathers had grown in and he was chirping very loudly. Once again, it was not long before his mother brought him something to eat. As I watched this baby bird daily, I noticed that he grew bigger every day. His mother was always nearby to protect, feed, and comfort him.

Just like that little baby bird, God will take care of you. He knows you need food, clothing, and shelter. When natural or financial storms have taken those things away, God always has a plan to help and watch over you. He is concerned about everything that concerns you, no matter if it is big or small. In Matthew 6:27-28, God’s word says, “Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?”

That is why God tells you not to worry about everyday life. He promises that if you, above all else, seek the Kingdom of God and live righteously, He will give you everything you need. Be comforted that God will not leave you or forsake you. He is always there watching over His word to perform it in your life.

“Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?” Matthew 6:26 (NLT)

Heaven’s Army Building Strong Foundations:

A Faith-Based Approach to Character Development for Women and Second-Level Living for Men

In a world where many are struggling with brokenness, addiction, and the challenges of everyday life, faith-based programs offer hope, healing, and a path toward wholeness. These programs, rooted in Christian principles, aim to transform lives by fostering character development and providing guidance toward a renewed sense of purpose. Two such initiatives that stand out are a women’s character development program and a men’s second-level living program. These programs cater to different stages of recovery and personal growth, yet both are grounded in the belief that true transformation begins with a relationship with Jesus Christ.

Home of Amazing Grace- Women’s Character Development Program

A women’s character development program, such as the Home of Amazing Grace, is a beacon of hope for women who have faced trauma, addiction, or other life-controlling issues. This program typically offers a minimum one-year residential stay, where women can step away from the chaos of their past lives and focus on building a strong foundation for the future.

At the heart of this program is the belief that character is not merely an innate trait but something that can be cultivated through intentional living and spiritual growth. Participants are immersed in an environment where they are encouraged to develop essential life skills, learn the value of discipline, and build resilience. However, what sets this program apart is its Christ-centered approach. Women are guided through daily Bible studies, prayer sessions, and mentorship opportunities that emphasize the importance of a personal relationship with God. The program also integrates practical elements, such as teaching work ethics and entrepreneurial skills through

initiatives like The Brewtique & More. Here, women learn the importance of hard work, financial stewardship, and business management, all while being surrounded by a supportive community that fosters their personal and spiritual growth. The ultimate goal is not just to help these women recover from their past, but to empower them to step into their God-given potential, with a renewed sense of identity and purpose.

The Winston House- Men’s Second-Level Living Program

The men’s second-level living program, exemplified by Heaven’s Army - The Winston House, addresses the unique needs of men who have already completed an initial recovery program and are ready to move to the next phase of their journey. This program is designed to provide a stable and supportive environment where men can continue their personal and spiritual development while integrating back into society. One of the primary focuses of this program is the concept of “next-level living.” This involves a deeper commitment to personal growth, spiritual maturity, and community involvement. Men in this program have already experienced significant transformation, but they now face the challenge of maintaining their progress and building a sustainable future. The program provides them with continued discipleship, accountability, and the opportunity to apply the principles they have learned in a real-world context.

Participants are encouraged to take on leadership roles within the program, serve others, and develop a strong work ethic. The program often includes vocational training, life skills workshops, and opportunities for community service, all of which help the men build confidence and prepare for independent living. At the same time, the spiritual component remains central, with ongoing Bible studies, prayer groups, and mentoring relationships that help the men stay grounded in their faith. The second-level living program is not just about staying sober or avoiding old habits; it is about thriving and living out one’s faith in every area of life. Men are taught to embrace their roles as leaders, providers, and servants within their families and communities, all while staying true to their Christian values.

Both the women’s character development program and the men’s second-level living program offer a holistic approach to transformation. They recognize that recovery and growth are not just about addressing external behaviors but involve deep, internal changes that can only be fully realized through a relationship with Jesus Christ. By focusing on character development, spiritual growth, and practical life skills, these programs equip individuals to overcome their pasts,

embrace their true identity in Christ, and step into the future with confidence and purpose. In a society where quick fixes are often sought after, these faith-based programs stand as a testament to the power of patience, perseverance, and the transformative love of God. They remind us that true change is possible, not just for those who are struggling, but for anyone who is willing to surrender their life to the One who makes all things new.

FACING THE FEAR OF CHANGE

“Your life does not get better by chance; it gets better by change.” – Jim

Have you ever had a deep feeling that it was time to make some life changes, but were too afraid to make them? I’ve certainly felt that way a time or two.

Perhaps the biggest reminder autumn brings is the natural act of letting go. Just as trees shed their leaves, letting go is part of the cycle that makes way for something new. While change is a normal part of life, it can still be scary. As you face a change in your life, whether it’s a new job, relationship, or place to live, make sure you work to overcome the fear. When you become comfortable or accustomed to your life being a certain way, you may develop a fear of change. This fear can hold you back or prevent you from reaching your goals if you let it. We can become so afraid of change that we don’t allow ourselves to let go of things soon enough.

Overcoming the fear of change starts with a willingness to face the unknown. Push your negative thoughts aside and remind yourself that it is okay not to know what is coming. Don’t stay in a toxic situation or a job that makes you unhappy with no chance of advancement simply because you fear change. Think about the things you hope for and then make your choices based on that. You can’t move forward or get better if things don’t change. To make progress in life or reach your goals, you must be open and accepting of changes. Try not to think of the change as a bad thing because it is necessary to make progress.

The only way to overcome your fear of change is to do it. My husband, Noble often gives a personalized ink pen to people that are facing a challenging situation. The pens are imprinted with the quote “Change nothing…Nothing changes.”

Facing fear head-on can be a turning point in your life. It is those moments of transition that bring the most growth. Each change brings new opportunities and experiences to you. You also learn and grow when things change, helping you become a better version of yourself than you were before. Dr. Seuss is quoted as saying, “If you get a chance, take it. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said it’d be easy, they just promised it would be worth it”.

2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (NKJV)

When their group began to grow, they founded the Family Worship Center of Plum Grove, Texas. In 2022, they moved into a building but continue to keep the home setting inside with couches, tables and chairs. Their motto is “Doing Church Differently”. They count it as their greatest privilege to share the love of Jesus to each person they come in contact with daily.
