RULES for PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT of the STAFF of the OSTEOPATHIC HOSPITAL OF MAINE 1. A staff physician who refers a patient to another physician for consul t a tion or care, without having appraised the patient or his family of such refer ence, the professional status of the physician to whom the case is r eferred, the reason for the reference and the financial arrangements to be made, is guilty of a breech of accepted conduct .

2. A staff member who admits a patient to the hospital on a reference basis , havi ng committed the pat i ent , in advance ~ to having certain procedures done , or having made agreements limiting hsopital stay to that less t han necessary to properly evaluate or care for the patient, or an agr eement as to the exact time when a procedure will be carried out, without the knowledge and consent of the phys i cians to whom the case i s refe rred , i s guilty of a breech of a c cepted conduct .

A s t aff member who is a party to criticism of the care of or charges for such care of a patient of another staff physician , referred or otherwise, outside the regular channels for such critic i sm , is guilty of a breech of accepted conduct .

4• A staff member, resident, interne , nurse , employee or those for whom such a · person is responsible who is a party to the influencing of a patient to change staff physicians is guilty of a breech of accepted conduct .

5· The part ic ~pation of any staff member , resident, intP-rne, nurse, or employee in gossip, loose, irresponsible talk or ridicule by word, action or other, of any patient , nurse ~ staff member or other person connected wi th the Osteopathi c Hospital of Maine , in j uri ous to the prest~ge , position or fortunes of such person is guilty of a breech of accepted conduct.

6. Violation of the confidential relationship between physician-patient, nurse-patient, physician-nurse, employee-patient , employee-physician is a breech of accepted conduct .
