Objectives The training progra.rn in Internal Medicine shall be an orderly, progressive, adad.emic and clinical integration of basic science (applied basic science) with clinical me.dieine 'c The objective of this program is to prepare the ~esi dent for the practice of In~ernal Medicine and f'or qualification as a Special• ist in this field. In order to attain this end it is intended to use the full facilities of hospital and it's professional departments to give the resident as broad background in specialty practice in this field as possible. Deficiencies ·well-rounded progr!il1l will be se:bisfied by guest lecturers and such other as are appropriate and practical.

(b) Requirements for admission te residency training I. Graduation from a 8ollege of Osteopathy, approved by the American Osteopathic Association ;, ~"\ 2. The resident must have satisfactorily completed an Internship, .~a hospital approved fer Intern training by the American Osteopathic As~ociation. 3. The resident must be a member in good standing .. in the Ameriea.n Osteopathic Association. 4. The candide.te for the residency shall submit an application to the · Secre- ~. tary of the Board. of Trustees of the Osteopathic Haspital of :Maine and the application shall be forwarded through the proper channels for consideration. (c) Departmental resources 1. There is an organized Department of Internal Medicine. The department consists of two specialists in Internal Medicine, certified bY the American Osteopathic Association Board of Internal Medicine, one of whom is the Chief of the department. 2. The Department of Internal Medicine has as its Chief lowell 1i . Hardy, D. o., F. A. C. o. I., certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Inter na l Medicine. 3. There is an organized Department of Pathology, headed by a certified Path• ologist. The resources of this department shall be used for the integration of clinical pathology in the training program of' the resident. An autopsy rate of 30% of the medical deaths shall be maintained and the Hedical Resident shall attend all autopsies of death occurring on medica l service. 4. There is an organized Department of Radiology .• headed by a full time, certified Radiologist. 5. The Hospital maintains a ·l ibrary, with adsquata facilities for study. The volumes represented i :1 this library include those recommended by the Ameri• can Osteopathic Associat.a.on Bureau of Hospitals for the training of Interns and those recommended by the l!.m.erican College of Osteopathic Internists for Residency training in Internal Medicine. The library subscribes to a large number of periodicals in the field of Int ernal Medicine. 6. The hospital provides living facilities for the resident. {d) The Trainin~ Program 1. Throughout the training period, the resident shall learn basic classifications of diseases and th~ pharmacodynamics of various therapeutic agents.
