James Madison University,Virginia Works… Students at James Madison University were asked to develop images and weave structures as a form of portraiture. The project was created by using combinations of satin weaves with half-toned digital image files manipulated from the internet. They used bleached cotton warp and black cotton and wool weft. Image with the lady (Page 2)- Piece is woven by Esther Chung, a South Korean/American duel citizen who hasn't been able to return to South Korean in seven years, and thus her only experience of where she is from (a form of identity) is through images on the internet.
About… The fiber art program at School of Art Design and Art History (SADAHS) at JMU emphasizes exploration of materials within a contemporary context that considers emergent and related issues of multiculturalism, technological advancement, gender, sexuality, and more.
