L ESSON 1
Import Office Documents Chrome Books create and access your documents in the cloud and usually sync them to Google Drive when you are connected to the Internet. If you are making the move to a Chrome Book you will need to transfer all your documents to the Google Cloud. These documents can be on external drives. In this lesson we will learn how to upload and convert your existing Office documents to Google documents. Attach a flash drive with your files. Click on the Google Apps menu.

Select the Files option.
The files in your Google Drive will automatically be shown.

Click on the Flash drive.
Double click on the file you would like to import.

You might get a message about the file and how it can be edited as a Word document within Drive. Click on the Got it button to continue.
The document will open for editing. The edit options are limited for Office documents in Google Drive.

Click on the File menu and select Save as Google Docs.
Google will convert your Office document to a Google Drive format document.

Google will open the converted document and give you a message.
A document in the Google Drive format has more edit options. The document is now in your Google Drive and available like any Google Document. To view your other Google documents and exit from this document, click the menu option on the left.

The Docs section shows all your Google Drive documents with a preview of each. To return to your regular Drive area, click on the Docs menu.
In this menu you will see a Docs, Sheets and Slides option. These are filters for those document formats. To return to your drive, select the Drive option.

The converted document should appear in your Drive.
