Design Challenge Create a magazine publication using a consistent theme, typeface, and grid. Solution Machi is a magazine inspired by fashion and music from the Far East. The streets of Tokyo are where these fashion trends were born which is why the title “Machi” literally means “street”. The trends featured are all about self expression and pushing the limits of fashion.

Running with Scissors Publication
Design Challenge Create a special edition book cover and properly type set the content. Solution Running with Scissors is a memoir about a young boy and his chaotic upbringing. Throughout his life, Augusten Burroughs felt trapped and alone. The illustration on the cover reflects the uncomfortable situation that he grew up in with the use of cross hatching. This pattern closes in on the silhouette to create the feeling of tension. Medium Ink

Perk Facial Cleanser Packaging
Design Challenge To create luxury packaging inspired by fruit. Solution Perk is a facial cleanser created to give you a full experience from the moment you open the box. The user opens the grapefruit packaging by removing the puckered lid which reveals six slices of grapefruit scented bars. Each wedge can be removed by pulling on the tab resembling the reign of the fruit. Awards 2015 Gold Addy

Solution All young girls need to endure the changes of youth; unfortunately dropping your tampon in the hall is one of the many casualties, which make it increasingly awkward. Design Challenge Create a calendar using tables in InDesign. The format should differ from the traditional calendar. Solution The calendar has become unnecessary with a cellphone in everyone’s pocket. This means designers need to find more innovative ways to create calendars to make them wanted instead of needed. Design Challenge Create a local store’s logo and brand identity. Reflect a smaller business with the concept and design.

Solution Persnickety is a candy store for those who take their love for candy seriously. The logo reflects the high quality and attention to detail the store provides. On a microscopic level sugar looks like grains of hexagons. This concept inspired the geometric pattern to enhance the idea that this store pays attention to every little detail.

Ducati
Advertising Design Challenge Create advertisements for Ducati Motorcycles which differ from its typical hyper-sexualized ads. Instead, focus back on to the quality and nostalgia of owning a classic motorcycle. Solution With the re-release of the 1960’s Ducati Scrambler these ads reflect an old school medium of advertising. The painted aesthetic gives a sense of movement while the gradient mesh shows the power of the machine. These ads bring the attention back to the beauty of the bike, not the person riding it.
