elcome to the October issueof the Hampton Gazette. The Hampton Gazette Facebook page has been really busy lately which we love to see. We noticed there have been quite a few threads lately regarding solar panels and people door knocking in the area. On page 21 we have a great feature from Fenland Solar which is worth having a read of. As usual we bring you all the news from the local schools and Parish Council along with fashion trends and beauty tips. Please do not forget to mention our advertisers when responding to adverts as without them we couldn’t bring you the Hampton Gazette. Until the next month.

CONSUMER ADVICE
Be aware of Council Tax Rebate Scams
by Eileen Le Voi
The National Fraud Intelligence Bureau intelligence team is warning people of a new approach being used by scammers to carry-out ‘vishing’ scams, through informing consumers of a pending Council Tax rebate.
S
o what is vishing? The principle behind is no different to phishing (internet fraud) – in which people try to fool you into disclosing your personal information, with the intention of identity theft or fraud. Where a criminal tries to illicit this over the phone, it is known as ‘vishing’ (telephone fraud). Fraudsters, purporting to be from a local council, have targeted both male and female victims aged
60 and over, phoning to say that they have been placed in the wrong council tax bracket for a number of years and that they are entitled to a rebate; they normally say that this rebate should be worth approximately £7,000. Once a victim is convinced that they are due a rebate for having been in the wrong tax bracket, the fraudster tells them that in order to receive the rebate, they will need to
pay an administration fee in advance; the payment they ask for varies between £60-£350. The victim provides the details and makes the payment, but then is no longer able to make contact with the person they spoke to on the phone. When they phone their council about the rebate, the council will confirm that they know nothing about it and that they have been contacted by fraudsters.
To report a fraud and receive a police crime reference number, call Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or use their online fraud reporting tool at www.actionfraud.police.uk/report_fraud
Protect yourself from vishing: • • •
Your local council will never phone out-of-the-blue to discuss a council tax rebate – if you receive a call of this nature, put the phone down straight away. No legitimate organisation will ask you to pay an advanced fee in order receive owed money; so never give them your card details. If you think you have been a victim of fraud, hang up the phone and, prior to making another call to report it, wait five minutes to clear the line as fraudsters sometimes keep the line open. Then call your bank or card issuer to report the fraud. Where it is possible, use a different phone line to make the phone call.

graduated from Portsmouth University reading politics, and my career began in marketing and advertising with Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising, Macmillan Publishing and Reed Elsevier. More recently since having my son Harry, I have been the Events Director for think tanks and lobbyist groups based in Westminster. As this position left me with very little time for anything else, I am now working freelance, so I can finally get involved with the local community as I’ve always wanted to. I have had many opportunities to move back down south, where I’m originally from. However having lived in Peterborough for almost 12 years, I consider Hampton to be a great place to live and bring up a family. With so much on our doorstop, we want for nothing. As a busy mum ferrying a 10 year old back and forth to clubs and play dates (how come they have a better social life than we do?!), it’s vital I have everything I need around me. We have an extensive shopping centre, sports fields for the children to play on, so many places to walk your dog, a gym (which I have at last managed to join!), a church with a cafe, social clubs for the young and old, fantastic schools and now a skate park, all within a few miles from the city centre. Having been on the Parish council for only a short period, I can already see we are fast becoming a town with far bigger responsibilities than smaller Parishes. I joined the Parish Council as I’d like to be a part of this growing community. I can see my fellow councillors have worked hard over the past 5 years to bring the best to Hampton and continue to do so. You may not always see it, but there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes to make this a safe, clean and happy environment for us all to live in. Come along to our meetings held each month (check the website for dates and times) and be a part of Hampton history. Happy Halloween Hampton! As ever I look forward to seeing the fabulous effort you all make with your houses on our Trick n Treat walk.

Reader’s letter Dear Hampton Gazette... I would really like to see it brought to attention of the parents who have children attending Hargate Primary School, that parking along Hargate Way in the mornings and afternoons causes more disruption to traffic then they realise. It is an absolute nightmare trying to drive along that road when they are blocking the way, especially as there is a blind bend outside the nursery which obstructs any view of oncoming traffic. This parking is completely hideous and shows no consideration for other road users. This road is a bus route and a main

Hampton Vale also have, on the odd occasion, Traffic Wardens, who do issue tickets for mindless parents who feel it necessary to carry on obstructing the roads. Please could the residents of Hampton and the school really try to get this road double yellow lined and show more consideration. I would like to remain anonymous but I know I am putting in writing the views of many residents who use this road.

t was an exciting weekend for us as we also celebrated the anniversary of the dedication of CSK Church in 2014. On 4 October, we will again be celebrating during our Harvest Festival Service at 10am. All food donations will go to Peterborough Foodbank. We look forward to welcoming you all, so please feel free to come along and join the rest of the Hampton parish giving thanks to God for his provision and goodness. To celebrate, we’re holding a Fun Day from 11am-2.30pm with lots of free activities and entertainment. Any profit made from the few stalls that will have a small charge will be donated to support a local charity. As well as celebrating together at CSK, we support one another. Jesus is alive today and comes alongside people during difficult times, just like we read about throughout the bible. At CSK we are here for everyone in the community during the highs and the lows. Remembering
and giving thanks for loved ones who are no longer with us is an important part of the grieving process in those low times. During ‘Baby Loss Awareness Week’, on Thursday 15 October, we will be joining a global ‘Wave of Light’ when at 7pm we will hold a short, reflective service, enabling anyone whose babies left them too soon to light a candle and have space for reflection and prayer. Each year we also give the opportunity to allow people a ‘Time to Remember, Time to Give Thanks’ during a special service on Sunday 1 November, at 3pm. We will be remembering all loved ones, whatever age. Whether you’re recently bereaved or have been bereaved a number of years, if you would like the name of your loved one to be read out and the opportunity to light a candle in their memory, do come along and join us. Refreshments will be served after this service. Every Blessing, Sylvia

Memorial Garden make-over Original work carried out by The Parish Council over a year ago (led by Councillor Brendan O’Sullivan and others), very sadly, did not come to the fruition of poppies expected.
D
espite the sowing of hundreds of seeds, weeding and watering, they did not grow, and the geese didn’t help matters! Therefore, whilst viewing the area in June of this year, (when I had been newly elected as Chair of the Parish Council), I decided to approach local businesses to see if they could help us. An initial meeting with O & H, involving Councillor John Amps and me, was positive in outcome and I’d like to thank Roger Tallowin for granting us the permission to re-vamp the garden. At this point, I would like all Hampton residents to know that although the garden is referred to as the “Memorial Garden” (used on Remembrance Day and other commemorative days), it is very much a garden of contemplation
and reflection, where anyone is welcome to sit quietly and gain some inner peace. I am extremely pleased to say that following several meetings with Dobbies Garden Centre, led by Samantha Bannister, John Amps and me, the garden will see a make-over starting on Monday 14 September from 9.30am. Samantha also contacted Tesco at Serpentine Green and a team of workers have been assigned (at time of writing this, some of the Managers, I believe!), to plant up rosebushes, lavender and other plants that are repellent to geese. Plants and nutrients are being donated by Dobbies. Samantha kindly approached Jewsons on our behalf, and they are delivering much needed topsoil, so thank you very much to Jewsons!

Tesco is also supplying refreshments for all those involved and on behalf of the Parish Council; I would like to offer our gratitude to Kellie Ackroyd and Jonathan Bruton from Tesco at Serpentine Green for supplying their team and helping to co-ordinate the project. There will be more to report over the next two months as Dobbies is also giving us some free decking with a pergola which will be installed at a later date. In the meantime, I would urge residents to report any sad looking, newly dug in plants to the Parish Council and keep a cursory eye on the wellbeing of the garden. Best wishes, Marion (Chair of Hampton Parish Council)

On 5 November 1605, political activist Guy Fawkes was discovered in a secret cellar beneath the House of Lords guarding 36 barrels of gunpowder.
G
uy Fawkes was standing guard over the stash of gunpowder intended for blowing up Parliament and the Protestant King James I, in order to restore a Catholic monarch to the throne. Fawkes was subsequently sentenced to death, and Protestants throughout the city of London lit bonfires to celebrate the failure of the assassination attempt. Whilst four centuries on, the political symbolism of this annual festivity may now largely be

Method: Pre-heat the oven to Gas 3/160°/140° Fan. Grease a deep, 9” square tin, and line with baking parchment. Beat together the egg and the milk. In a large saucepan, melt together the butter, syrup, treacle and sugar, stirring until the sugar has dissolved completely. Remove from the heat and stir in the oatmeal. Place a metal sieve over the pan. Tip all the remaining dry ingredients into the sieve and sift into the pan. Add the egg and milk mixture and stir everything together until thoroughly combined. Using a spatula, scrape the mixture into the lined tin and bake in the oven for about 55 minutes. Leave to cool in the tin. Place a square of baking parchment over the top of the cake to prevent it sticking, then turn out onto a double layer of kitchen foil and wrap securely. overlooked, ‘Guy Fawkes Night’ or ‘Bonfire Night’ has nonetheless become a firm fixture in the calendar of families up and down the land. If we’re lucky enough to have fine weather for the occasion itself, a barbecue is a great way to ensure tasty food that somehow acquires even more flavour in the nip of a November evening scented with ‘gunpowder’ from the fireworks. However, if it’s too wet or chilly for that, there are plenty of alternative recipes to prepare and eat indoors.
If you can’t barbecue, simply oven-bake some thick, good quality sausages at Gas 6/200°/ Fan 180° until almost cooked. Method: Mix together equal parts of clear honey and wholegrain mustard – for 2 x 454g packs of sausages you’ll need about four or five tablespoons of each. If you like a spicy kick, add a good pinch or two of chilli powder to the glaze. Toss the cooked sausages in the mixture until evenly coated. Either pop them back into the oven for a further 5-10 minutes, turning once to ensure even browning, or finish them on a preheated griddle for a lovely chargrilled flavour. Serve with buttery baked potatoes and a crisp green salad; alternatively cut the sausages into chunks and serve on cocktail sticks as part of a finger buffet. The Edible Gift Company’s famous Chilli Jam makes a great accompaniment!

Change of name
for local accountants
We are pleased to announce that we have now changed our practice name from Bird & Co to Bird & Laws.
T
his follows Mark Laws FCCA joining the practice. Mark started working with wellknown local Yaxley accountant, Pete Bird FCPA last year, and we have decided to celebrate the success of this joining together of two local qualified and experienced accountants, by merging our practices together and changing the name to reflect both our personalities. Mark previously practised under the name of Prospect Accountancy from premises in Fletton and Pete as Bird & Co from their current offices in Holme Road Yaxley. We have also been joined by Lesley Bagnall MAAT who has taken over the preparation of clients VAT returns and payroll as well as other accountancy and taxation matters. In addition we have a couple of associate accountants who work with us on a regular basis, one of whom is
currently awaiting the results of his final ACCA exams. We are now in a stronger position than ever to offer a full accountancy and taxation service, covering all areas, but still maintain a professional yet personal approach which we all consider very important. In this day and age, it is important that taxpayers deal with not only qualified accountants, but proactive accountants as well and we consider ourselves to be at the forefront of this thinking and technology. We have therefore invested in a new website that can be found at www.birdandlaws.co.uk. This incorporates a secure website portal, managed by DocuSoft, where accounts and tax returns can be accessed and signed by clients as well as a means of exchanging other documents between us.
Hampton Cricket Club
The cricket season has now been put to bed for the winter and the whole of Hampton CC can be very proud of their first season at Clayburn Road.
T
he club have had highs and lows, successes and failures, but the level of commitment and camaraderie has been as high as it could possibly have been hoped for at the start of the year. The Cootes Cup Final in Buckden will hopefully bring some silverware and be the final icing on the cake to our inaugural season in Hampton. Cross Keys Homes recently became a major sponsor with a great donation towards our roll-on covers, a fantastic result for the club and a sign that they are bedding in well to their new home. There was also an excellent fundraising evening hosted by Mattoni’s in August, which had some great food
and was very well supported. The backing the club has achieved since being based in Hampton has really gone to show that the move was the right thing and has been very well timed. The development of junior cricket has been important this summer and it will return next year. Numbers have been great, week in and week out, even when the skies looked a little foreboding. The parents and kids involved have loved the free offering and the Club may well have seen a star or two of the future. “Big thanks from our coaching team to all who attended and we can’t wait to see you all again!”

COMMUNITY NEWS
NEWS The Parish Council has listened to comments from Hampton Residents, addressing the two main issues complained about on a day to day basis. These are LITTER and ROAD SAFETY.
LITTER
For a six month trial period, The Parish Council will employ a second Lengthsman who will be based in Hampton Hargate. This will enable the fast growing number of residential streets to be cleared of litter on a two week rota with the facility to respond promptly to issues such as broken glass or any other dangerous materials within an hour of a report. This extension of our present provision will allow a daily litter pick of Hampton Hargate shopping area/car park as well as the new skate park which is due to open next month. If residents are happy to support this initiative, it can continue on a permanent basis from 1 April 2016 but would require a small increase in the present precept of approximately ÂŁ5 per year which equates to approximately 10 pence per week. PLEASE let us have your thoughts on this proposal by emailing or writing to the Parish Council at addresses listed below.

TRAFFIC REGULATION The unofficial 20 MPH speed limit across parts of Hampton is now OFFICIAL, following our ’20 Is Plenty Campaign’ (which was a majority vote by the Parish Councillors) and implemented by the City Council. A Road traffic Order is now in place, making the WHOLE of Hampton a 20MPH Zone. This is LEGALLY enforceable and we will be working with Cambridgeshire Constabulary to ensure it is implemented. The Safer Peterborough Team based at Bayard Place and led by Robin Sissons, will also be involved in reducing illegal and unsafe parking. The Police will offer training to any resident who would like to be part of a local Speed Watch Team. Should you be interested, please contact Kate Day, the Hampton Parish Clerk. Lastly ...
PARISH or TOWN COUNCIL ?
The Parish Councillors propose a name change, as the term ‘Parish’ seems irrelevant to Hampton, which is a huge and fast growing township. The definition of the word Parish is ... An administrative part of a diocese, especially an Anglican or Roman Catholic diocese, having its own church and a designated priest. The members of such a parish; a religious community attending one church.” We wish all residents to know that we are an administrative body operating at local government level and not purely affiliated to the church parish. Therefore, we propose to use the name ‘Hampton Town Council’. No costs would be incurred and we believe this to be a far more appropriate name in the 21st Century. Can you please let us have your opinions asap. Please send to: Parish Clerk Hampton Parish Council, Hampton Vale Centre, 1 Stewartby Avenue, Hampton Vale, PE78NJ (Office hours 9am to 1pm Mondays & Tuesdays) or email to hamptonparishcouncil@gmail.com

COMMUNITY NEWS NATURE
By October the autumn equinox has passed and the number of daylight hours becomes less. Autumn is in full swing by the time October gets underway although quite often we can still enjoy warm days.
T
The wildlife of Hampton
he blackberries are over for another year, but hazel nuts and acorns are now ripening. The squirrels and jays are hoarding them for the winter by burying them in the ground. Autumn leaf colours are a delight and a consequence of the colder weather and the trees’ preparation for winter. Leaves are for forming food for the tree, but low winter temperatures slow the process of photosynthesis down so much that little food would be able to be produced in the winter months. Leaves become liabilities because they allow water loss. The yellow and orange colours are the pigments left behind once the green has gone. The reds and purples come from new pigments formed in the cells as their chemistry alters (like the ripening process in fruit). The end result being leaves dying and falling. We can sometimes think that the birds we see in our gardens in the summer are the same birds we see
in the winter. However, many of our common garden birds move south and west within Britain in the winter to find a generally milder climate. Many of these are replaced by birds from the continent. Recently one ringed blackbird which summered in Norfolk was found the next two winters in Devon, returning to Norfolk each year to breed. In autumn very few birds can be heard singing, although they do call to one another as they move around in flocks. The exception can often be robins with their melancholy autumn song. Around mid-October toads go into hibernation, finding logs or stones to hide beneath until Spring arrives once more. Frogs also hibernate at this time, at the bottom of ponds or some other sheltered place. October is a lovely time of year for appreciating the natural world around Hampton: the beginning of the season of ‘mists and mellow fruitfulness’.

BUSINESS PROFILE
Fenland Solar - making the right choice Like anything we do in life, it’s important to make the right choice, but given the newness of this industry and general lack of information about equipment, how can you be sure that you’re making the right choice when selecting a company to supply and install your PV system? Firstly a few things you should try to avoid:
The Feed in Tariff
Middlemen outfits; these are companies actively marketing and selling systems but with no accreditations, they simply take your order and then sell the installation onto another company to fit the system. In some cases clients have been left with no deposit and no system! If they’d bought from a MCS & RECC approved company this wouldn’t have happened.
The feed-in tariff was launched April 2010 and since then it’s seen a truly spectacular uptake, it’s quite simple really and works like this. If you install a PV system the government’s Feed-In Tariff scheme (FIT) means you will be paid for the electricity you generate, even if you use it yourself, and for any surplus electricity you export to the grid. And of course, you’ll also save money on your electricity bill, because you’ll be using your own electricity!
Companies offering free panels ‘buy 10 and get 2 free’. If they were free someone would have simply knocked at your door and handed you two free panels. Make sure that the deal you’re offered is completely transparent. Companies who want more than a 25% deposit. This is outside RECC guidelines and would mean that you are not protected by the consumer code. One key worry with this is that it’s a company with poor cash-flow that operates outside of the industry regulations. Companies who don’t do a proper survey on the first visit. Without a SAP calculation being performed how could you possibly know what the returns could be for your investment? Companies who don’t or can’t tell you the specifics of the panels or inverter that they are offering you.
Here are some of the main benefits you will enjoy if you have a PV system installed: The feed-in tariff is a 20 year contract so you’ll receive payments for the next 20 years. Payments are index linked to the Retail Price Index (RPI) and tax free! Earn for every KWh unit of energy that your system generates (regardless of whether you use it).
Reduced energy bills (earn and save at the same time).

Allotments Have you ever thought about growing your own fruit, vegetables and salads? How about raising a few chickens so you can ‘go to work on an egg’? Do you think that you may be potentially green-fingered? How good would it be to be able to eat freshly picked fruit, vegetables and salads that you have grown yourself? And how about teaching your children to understand that food has a provenance and doesn’t magically appear on the plate and table?
I
f you have answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions and live in Hampton Hargate or Hampton Central, then maybe you should consider putting your name down for an allotment plot and join in the phenomenon that is ‘growing your own’.

The Hampton Hargate Community Allotment Gardens (HHCAG) site is based in Rothbart Way, Hampton Hargate, adjacent to the back footpath that leads out of Hampton towards Dobbies. The site was opened in July 2008 after O & H Hampton handed it

over to the volunteers who formed the first HHCAG Committee. The site was the first allotment site in the Hampton area and has grown from strength to strength and now comprises 24 half and 16 full plots as well as two raised beds for community use. Since inception, the site has flourished and many members of the Hampton community have had the opportunity to grow their own fruit and vegetables in our wonderful English weather, as well as benefitting from the social side that has resulted in long lasting friendships that sum up what Hampton is all about. Over the last seven years we have held barbeques, competitions and various other social events which have developed a real sense of fun, community and competition, as well as a sharing of experience and knowledge. Working parties have been formed to keep the overall site in good condition as well as
numerous projects which have seen the undertaking of planting up the boundaries and the installation of water troughs to ensure watering of plots is so much easier and convenient. The members of the site range represent the full diversity of the Hampton community from young to old, and comprise those working plots on their own to those utilising the help of friends and family. So if you want to grow your own, get out in the fresh air and enjoy the peace and quiet of allotment life on your own, with your family or friends and would like to know more please email the HHCAG committee at hhcag@hotmail.co.uk for more information and get yourself on the waiting list by registering via the Hampton Parish Council webpage at: www.hamptonpc.org.uk/allotments

Your guide to
Living in Hampton
A hop, leap and a
jump forward
nature for
The warm days of summer are well and truly behind us and the extreme temperatures of winter are fast approaching. With the change of seasons comes a new variety of exciting projects for Froglife and the Hampton Nature volunteers.
T
he Froglife wildlife charity is responsible for managing the conservation activities on the Hampton Nature Reserve for Value Nature, part of O&H Hampton. The Hamptons are designed around O&H Hampton’s masterplan, which sets an overall vision for 54% of open space, parks, lakes and nature reserve, woven through and around 24% housing and 22% commercial and retail space.
Surveying the scene Over the past two years, a number of wildlife surveys have been carried out over the Hampton area. Helping to determine trends on the status of certain species in the local area, the information assists with the continued review and development of the reserve’s habitat management plans. During the spring and summer survey season, Froglife carries out butterfly, water vole, amphibian and reptile surveys at the Nature Reserve. Well known for its notable amphibian population, the reserve also boasts at least 27 butterfly, 18 dragonfly and 120 water beetle species. Undertaken for scientific purposes, the surveys allow Froglife to monitor the fluctuations of various species on the reserve. A rigorous scientific method is adhered to in order to better understand how to manage different species’ habitats.
O&H was originally involved in moving and creating homes for 24,000 adult great crested newts in the Hamptons’ distinctive network of 300 ponds. Froglife’s most recent survey has shown that the population has grown by more than 40% to approximately 34,000 over the last ten years. It is one of Europe’s largest populations of this protected species. It also gives Hampton Nature Reserve a designation as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and Special Area of Conservation. As such, access to the reserve is restricted to people volunteering with Froglife.
No hot potato If you love the great outdoors but need a good excuse to brave the elements at this time of year, there couldn’t be a better time to sign up as a Froglife volunteer. From October through to March, the charity and its winter work parties will be busy working on a whole host of vital habitat management tasks. These include opening up the woodland rides to allow in more sunlight for the plants and invertebrates there, scrub cutting to create basking spots for reptiles and reed raking to assist newt surveys, to name a few. Putting the fun into being out in the cold, Froglife experts often light up a small fire, and serve hot drinks and baked potatoes during the winter work parties.
Volunteers of all ages come together to look after the area. Some people are looking to gain experience in order to progress towards a career in conservation, others simply enjoy working on their local nature reserve and take immense pride in it. Working with Froglife as a volunteer offers a great way to give something back to nature, keep fit, and meet new people in beautiful surroundings. For Judith Turner, one of Froglife’s longest serving volunteers, re-connecting with nature has been key to enhancing her quality of life in the Hampton area. “When I first saw a notice saying the Hampton Nature Reserve wasn’t open to the public, I phoned the given number to ask if I could visit the site. Since then, my life has changed. “I work there at least a couple of days a week, helping with surveys and joining winter parties. I’ve even attended several free training courses. But best of all, I am free to wander and explore at will. All volunteers are made very welcome, you can do a little or as much as you wish and we have lots of fun too.” Froglife’s hands-on volunteer team are involved with all aspects of maintaining this incredible reserve and usually meet every Thursday from 10am, as well as some Saturdays. For further information on how to get involved and where to meet, you can contact Conservation Officer Liz Morrison at liz.morrison@froglife.org, on 07977 250048, or via the froglife.org website.

Derek Vickers of Stilton Foot Clinic is preparing himself for patients wanting their feet to be in tip top condition after lots of usage in the summer months
B
efore you go out and buy those winter shoes and boots, consider giving your feet a treat so that they are ready for the Autumn/Winter hibernation. Callus (build up of hard skin) is one of the conditions that Derek treats frequently, hard skin can be troublesome, often leading to splints (or fissures) in the heel area and can be painful and lengthy to treat. Troublesome nails in younger patients are trauma or infection. In older patients problems occur in the fact that nails get harder and thicker which makes it more difficult to treat yourself.
30 30
Hard skin and callus is something you need to keep on top of, as are ugly discoloured thick toe nails. Discoloured, thick, cracked or crumbling nails could signal a nail fungus. Applying nail polish to an infected nail could make the problem worse, so get the condition treated. As people have worn sandals throughout the summer they can be more prone to cracked heels which need regular attention. Verrucas can also be troublesome. Verrucas are very common, spread in so many ways
and can also be painful. The good news is they are easy to treat once you get on top of them. Corns are also very common and can be inflamed due to the constant friction and pressure from footwear worn in the winter months. Tight fitting shoes or high heels can be contributory factors of corns that can rear their ugly heads. Whatever your foot problem contact Derek to arrange a visit to the clinic or arrange a home visit 01733 240609 or 242449. Derek Vickers Stilton Foot Clinic HPC Reg CH17980.

Our pick of facial serums
When using a serum it’s always best to apply to a wet skin to help speed on the process and then once it’s dry apply your moisturiser.
Serums are often the most expensive element of your skin care routine but they are a great way of undoing previous damage. They can also help specific issues such as sun damage, ageing, acne, skin spots and dehydration.
Younique Eye Lift Serum
Neals Yard Rejuvenating Frankincense Facial Serum
Body Shop Vitamin Overnight Serum
Garnier Ultra lift Serum
Formulated to replenish, moisturise and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It helps wake your eye up and give plenty of nutrition to your skin. Approx £50 and available direct from Younique.
For firmer radiant skin this is a must have. An intense boost to rejuvenate your skin combining frankincense and gotu kola with anti-oxidant rich blueberry oil and skin brightening turmeric. Approx £43 and available online.
A technical innovation combining the power of a serum and oil to indulge, replenish and recharge skin with moisture overnight. Non greasy and fast absorbing. This a beauty gem at only £15. Available online.
UltraLift complete beauty intensive serum offers a youth concentrate with a complete triple anti-ageing action: anti-wrinkle, firming and radiance boosting, revealing your skin’s youth. Available at £9.99 from most supermarkets and chemists.

The trend for autumn /winter seems to be stepping back in years, with the current looks from the 60s and 70s, the look is definitley Boho. Seventies nostalgia holds strong for autumn. This season is less glam rock and more folksy; with boho dresses and shearling jackets, patchwork fur, flares, fringing and ponchos. Luxe fabrics, ethereal prints, flowing dresses, fringing and ponchos complete the new folksy bohemian look. This hippy style is in; flared trousers, patchwork fur and printed maxis can be found at many high street shops. Polo necks, turtle necks, roll-necks... just make them high necks. Light or chunky knit, this is geek chic meets ‘70s romance and of course is great for the colder weather! Knee-high boots, outrageously short skirts, punchy graphics… that’s right, the 60s are having a major moment right now and the high street is following suit!

Colder weather causes our skin to retain less moisture while central heating doubles the problem by drying out the air and leeching moisture from the body, so a good skincare routine, especially in autumn, is vital.

Ditch the soap. Fragrant soapy scrubs might feel (and smell) wonderful after a day at the beach, but they leave your skin dry. When autumn arrives, switch to a soap-free hydrating cleanser. It’s time to put away the gels and bring out the creamy body wash.

Exfoliate with an oil-based scrub. The summer sun and chlorine may have left your skin feeling dry and flaky. Start the new season off with a full-body exfoliation session. Oilbased scrubs are wonderful because they exfoliate and hydrate.

Invest in hand cream. Hands often become dry and cracked during autumn. An ounce of prevention really is worth a pound of cure. Start moisturizing your hands now to ensure soft, supple hands all winter long.
Switch from lotion to cream. As the air becomes drier, your skin needs a thicker moisturiser. Creams provide a stronger oily barrier, which means they both reduce water loss from the outer layer of skin and provide hydration to this layer of skin at the same time.

LEGAL
Beware of the internet! Ashley Madison data leaks could widen cracks in relationships.
T
he type of evidence used in family proceedings has changed radically in recent years. With the universality of social media and internet sites, people’s lives are often conducted in the full glare of the public gaze, whether they like it or not. The most recent example has been from the Ashley Madison website which aims to facilitate extra marital affairs. Hackers have published a data file for download which contains customer details – potentially hugely embarrassing as well as marriage-wrecking. There is often a misunderstanding about when adultery occurs in a marriage. If you have an sexual affair whilst you are still married, it doesn’t matter that you’ve separated,
it is still adultery right up until decree absolute. But it is very rare to engage a private detective to obtain proof of adultery nowadays. You wouldn’t start a divorce on this ground unless the Respondent admits the adultery with an unknown person. The Ashley Madison website is actually going to name and shame people which could be proof in its own right, if needed. Facebook is another fruitful source of evidence in family proceedings nowadays. The Courts strongly discourage reliance on Facebook downloads but nonetheless some of the more blatant postings can provide compelling evidence in both divorce and children cases, if you’re not careful.
The moral of this tale is obvious – if you want your private life to stay that way, use the internet with care. For more information see the Belinda Smith & Co website www.bscosolicitors.co.uk and Peterborough Collaborative Family Lawyers at www.pcflg.co.uk

PETS’ PATCH
Tracy Butler volunteers at Animal Helpline at Wansford with her daughter Maisie. It is a registered charity and has been running for almost thirty years.
Wansford Animal Shelter
W
ansford Animal Shelter rescues dogs of all breeds, some of these dogs have been handed in by their owners as they can no longer care for them but most have come from the dog pound. If Animal Helpline did not take these dogs they would be put to
sleep after seven days. They help to walk the dogs and take some of them to dog shows in the hope they will find their forever home. Animal Helpline is run by a team of dedicated volunteers and they are always looking for donations. Tracy is happy to collect any of the following
items: bedding, blankets, towels, disinfectant, dog toys and leads, dog food. As a charity organisation, donations are really important. They are also in need of any prizes for a tombola stall. Volunteers are always welcome and if you have a spare few hours to walk the dogs then
please get in touch with Tracy or the home direct. Walking is great way for you to get some exercise and make a real difference to a dog’s time at the kennels. Other volunteers’ jobs involve cleaning out the kennels and bathing the dogs.
If you can help or are interested in volunteering please get in touch with Tracy 07766015845 or visit the website at www.homes4dogs.co.uk
Offering home boarding as an alternative to kennels. We match your dog to the right home for them. You are able to meet the home beforehand. Your dog is treated like one of the family. Contact Anna: 01733 253632 / 07590282005 anna@yourpetsparadise.co.uk www.yourpetsparadise.co.uk

PETS’ PATCH
Firework Advice for Pet Owners Fireworks commonly cause stress and worry to pets, as well as to owners trying to ensure the wellbeing of them. So here’s our guide to help you and your furry friends prepare for the forthcoming firework festivities. ● Your pet is likely to feel safer if you’re around. So don’t leave them alone ● It’s important to keep pets inside once the fireworks start. So plan ahead and make sure any exercise and toileting is out of the way in good time ● Allow enough time for natural products, available from your vets, such as DAP sprays, diffusers and collars, or medicines, to take effect. (You may need to plan for this weeks in advance) ● Keep your garden gate and doors shut, and
make sure your pet is microchipped and wearing their collar and tag just in case they bolt in fear and escape ● Don’t over fuss, this may indicate to them that there is indeed something to be frightened of ● Some pets find the gentle pressure from specially designed products such as thunder shirts, coats or jumpers has a calming effect ● Close the curtains and turn up the TV or radio nice and loud
● Make sure there’s a cosy place where your pet can hide and feel secure. Often dogs will appreciate a den created under the kitchen table, a blanket on the floor behind the sofa or if they were crate trained, their crate ● Distract pets with their favourite game, toy or a treat just before and during fireworks ● It’s important not to punish any signs of stress or fear and remember to stay calm yourself

Unfortunately firework parties are not confined to one evening and depending on your location it can be an ongoing problem at this time of year. If you would like any advice, then please ask a member of staff at your local vets who will be happy to offer further advice.
