Johnson’s of Old Hurst Johnson’s of Old Hurst Johnson’s of Old Hurst

As restrictions are eased and life is slowly reverting back to normal, this school break is likely to be more similar to the summers pre-COVID, which may seem like a distant memory. So, here are some ideas that you could partake in if you are struggling to remember what you used to be able to get up to in your free time.

Johnson’s of Old Hurst

If you are looking to travel a little further afield, then Johnson’s of Old Hurst is a cheap day out for the entire family. Open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 6pm, the zoological gardens and woodland walk is an opportunity to meet an abundance of friendly farm animals as well as taking a refreshing walk through a shady woodland. Not only do Johnsons of Old Hurst house the typical donkeys, chickens and

goats expected of a farm, but they also are home to a number of crocodiles, alligators and snakes in their Tropical House, open between 10:30am to 5:30pm from Tuesday to Saturday. There is also a butchery, bakery and farm shop with a selection of reasonably priced fresh produce as well as a tea room and steakhouse. The numerous animals and shops provide an excellent day out for the whole family to enjoy. Church St, Huntingdon PE28 3AF www.johnsonsofoldhurst.co.uk

GloGolf

Unique in the UK, Glo Golf is a new, futuristic mini golf centre with a 16-hole golf course that is suitable for everyone, glow-in-the-dark features and artwork. At £8.50 a game for over 18s and £6.50 for children aged 5 to 17, groups of up to five people can play a game of mini golf

in an outer-space themed environment. Golf clubs and balls are available to hire with each session and score cards are provided to keep track of who wins… or loses! With no under 18s allowed after 8pm, this seems like a brilliant activity for all ages to experience mini golf like never before in a COVID safe environment. Ferry Meadows

A local hotspot, Ferry Meadows in Nene Park, has an abundance of activities to encourage learning and engaging with nature as we are reintroduced back into socialisation and on our way to a ‘normal’ life.

Held over a number of sessions, Ferry Meadows is offering Pond Dipping

sessions for all ages, identifying creatures found in the ponds, as well as an Introduction to Glass Making workshop at £20pp for those aged 16 and over. Alongside the activities hosted by Ferry Meadows, there are picturesque surroundings to take a walk around and parks for children to play in. www.nenepark.org.uk/ferry-meadows Emergency Services Day

The Emergency Services Day EAAA is on the 22 August from 11:00am to 4:00pm. The event will include static displays of road ambulances and fire engines and offer the chance to look inside the vehicles and talk to firefighters and paramedics. There will also be the Newfoundland rescue dogs completing demonstrations on how they search for someone believed to be in the water. The miniature train that drives around Ferry Meadows will be giving all of their proceeds of the day to the East Anglian Air Ambulance Service.

Not only will this event be an interesting and exciting day out, it also serves as an educational tool for people of all ages to find out more about what the EAAA assist with, as well as an opportunity to donate to the fantastic cause!
