I’m hoping that, like me, you’re all looking forward to spring and summer and planning all kinds of fun. Over the winter months it can be difficult to become enthusiastic about summer fun and the holidays, but it’s good to have things to look forward to and we have all been watching our new community pavilion taking shape on the playing fields near Morrison’s. All going to plan there will be a football tournament to celebrate the opening on 16 July and we are incorporating the rest of of Cardea to mark this occasion. There has been much time spent planning, countless meetings and a few hurdles to overcome for this fantastic facility to be built and we want to show our appreciation to all involved with a bit of a party! The Cardea Community Sports Association will be organising the tournament and all other community groups are invited to take part. The youth club will have a fundraising tombola stand and I will be hassling, I mean inviting, local businesses and everyone I know to donate prizes. Watch this space for updates as this will be a great occasion and a way to meet all of the groups that we have here now. Of course, we will all be hoping for good weather so we can have bouncy castles, food and all of the usual summer fun day activities. If anyone is interested in taking part please feel free to contact me.
The Stanground Children’s Centre holds a Baby Café meeting every Tuesday from 1.30 to 3 pm, no appointment is needed. The Baby Café is a charity which supports pregnant or breastfeeding mothers across the UK. The meetings are set up with coffee tables, comfy sofas and play areas for the toddlers. Partners are welcome to come along with the mothers too. Trained health professionals run the meetings and are able to give parents the right information and advice. The Baby Café drop-ins offer help with all aspects of breastfeeding and any impact this may have on everyday life. During the meetings, as well as one-to-one chats with the professionals, you can talk to other mothers and build your confidence. You can also look through books, various leaflets or watch DVDs while enjoying some tasty refreshments. The atmosphere is very relaxed, friendly, informal and safe.
I can report that the Cardea Youth Club continues to grow with 36 young people in total; they come from Park Farm, Stanground & Farcet as well as Cardea and all enjoy getting together on our Friday evenings. We still have places for a few more so if you are aged 11-16 and fancy coming along you are always more than welcome to join us. We have games and different activities; the most popular being team games that we can all play together like rounders and our legendary game of dodgeball to round off each session. These are not compulsory and if you like your games a bit calmer we have a Play Station, board games, snooker table and a resident chess expert who is always more than happy to teach anyone the popular game. If you prefer just meeting up with your mates for a chat and a giggle that’s fine too, it’s your club! In the last session, one of our leaders had a the great idea of offering help to anyone struggling with homework, or something at school that is hard to get to grips with. However, we don’t want to turn into a homework club as Friday evening is the end of the school week, we just want our kids to know that we are here to help them with tough stuff as well as enjoy fun stuff. We are still after folk to come along and demonstrate any skills or interesting hobbies that they may have, so again please contact me if you would like to drop in one week.
Stanground Library offers many activities and facilities as well as its usual library services. It is equipped with a children’s area, copying facilities, computers for public use and technology adapted to be easily accessed by customers with a disability. Every Friday from 3.30-4 pm Storytime is run and on Tuesdays it’s Baby Rhyme Time from 10-10.30 am. The library is currently looking for new members for their adult reading group which meets each second Monday of the month, 3.30-4.40 pm. There is also a Knit and Natter group meeting available every other Tuesday from 11am12.30pm for those who enjoy knitting or would like to learn this skill. On Thursday mornings a free computer session is run from 10.30am-12noon. It is also possible to arrange with the library class visits for schools. Coming soon is the Junior Reading Group for children between the age of 7 and 11. Volunteering with the Wildlife Trust Statistically, volunteering is one of the top activities that anyone can do for the most heightened sense of fulfilment and satisfaction.
V
olunteers with the Wildlife Trust report a huge sense of satisfaction; especially outdoors on nature reserve work parties, where essential land maintenance takes place. Those involved have a good work-out, make new friends and have fun, while knowing they are helping to contribute to improving the local environment. Work parties are often held midweek with activities varying from week to week , but there are other ways of volunteering; from office work, data collection, ecology group work, monitoring wildlife, photography etc. The Trust depends on
‘You make a living by what you get; you make a life by what you give.’ WINSTON CHURCHILL
a brilliant army of volunteers who help support all the vital work which takes place right across Cambridgeshire. In fact, for every staff member there are 10 volunteers who lend vital support on nature reserves; at events and with the educational programmes which the Trust runs. Paula Monaghan is a volunteer at the Trust’s flagship reserve just south of Peterborough, the Great Fen: “I started helping the Wildlife Trust BCN with bat surveys in 2011. I chose to volunteer for them because they care for all wildlife, not just birds or plants, they offer a lot of support and training, and they are local to me.

“I’ve since helped in many different ways. As well as bat surveys, I dabbled with water beetle surveys for a short time. As Events Secretary for the Great Fen Local group for four years I organised talks and helped put on quiz nights to raise money. Now I’m a Volunteer Ranger at the Great Fen; at least once a month, I open car parks and facilities, give help and advice to visitors, report fly tipping, make sure our cattle are secure in their fields, note wildlife sightings, clear overgrown pathways, and litter pick, to name a few of the tasks! While doing this I’m also promoting the Wildlife Trust and the project.”

Social media advice for separated couples Social media is an established part of our world and with live tweeting from Courts, the possibility of service of legal documents via Facebook message and pages of screenshots being submitted in evidence, it is having a profound influence on family law legal proceedings. A survey last year suggested that one in seven married people have considered divorcing as a result of their spouses’ activity on social media sites such as Facebook. It is not just the ‘unsocial’ aspect of communicating with screens rather than loved ones that creates problems. Much activity found on social media sites can amount to infidelity in word if not deed Think before you post Care needs to be taken by separating couples or parents in what they post on social media especially if there are financial or children proceedings underway. Status updates or private messages can provide evidence of adultery. And all social media posts, locations and messages can be viewed by a party wanting to keep tabs on someone’s spending, raise questions about substance abuse or how children are being cared for or to prove employment or cohabitation. Whilst sometimes understandable, the temptation to vent one’s frustration at an ex- partner on social media, always creates more problems than it solves. If a party is unreasonable, an online shaming is highly unlikely to make them less so. What goes online tends to stay somewhere online and even if deleted could already have been saved for later use as evidence. Would you want your posts seen by the family court? Social media advice for separated couples If things are difficult: Think before you post - how could this cause problems or show me in a negative light? • Change your passwords – ex partners often know them • Look at privacy settings – public includes your ex • Revise followers and friend lists – people who know your ex might love to • report back • Consider opening new social media accounts – especially if you had joint • accounts before and if life is particularly emotional and volatile, take a break from social media altogether until the dust settles. Sometimes life just calls for “real friends” in the “real world”. Stanground C of E Churches As you all know, the date of Easter changes every year, depending on the time of the Jewish Passover, which in turn takes its date from the phase of the moon.
T
his provides a challenge for schools and many other organisations. Earlier this year there were some discussions between leaders of various international church groups to see if they could agree a fixed date. I for one think that would be wonderful, because so often Lent, the 40 days of preparation for Easter takes me by surprise, coming in early February when we just seem to have finished Christmas! In Stanground Churches this year, we first have Mother’s Day (always the 4th Sunday of Lent) on 6 March. There will be lovely, family friendly services in both churches, followed by coffee and traditional simnel cake. The Easter weekend itself looks like this: Good Friday: Reflection on the Stations of the Cross at 12 noon at St Michael’s Church Mace Road Easter Saturday: Family Easter Activity Morning at St John’s Church starting at 10.30. Easter Day: 9.30 at St John’s and 11.15 at St Michael’s, Holy Communion, celebration Holy Communion. There might be even more, so keep in touch through our facebook page! Cross of flowers celebrates new life As Stanground residents, you are probably familiar with the sight of a large cross covered with fresh flowers on Easter Sunday each year, situated outside Stanground Baptist Church, on the corner of Chapel Street and Church Street.
O
ne of the Deacons of the Church, Jane Carter, explains the reason for this: “Easter is the most important of Christian festivals, as it celebrates the death and resurrection of Jesus, God’s Son. For many years, at Stanground Baptist Church, we have decorated a bare cross with an abundance of colourful spring flowers and foliage to symbolise the new life that Jesus offers to anyone who believes in Him as their Saviour. Everyone, including the children, gets involved in our Easter day service, in placing flowers into a wire mesh around the cross, until it is completely covered. It looks really amazing and is an important witness to the local community about the true meaning of Easter!” As well as the Easter celebration for the whole family on Easter Sunday (27 March) at 10.15am when everyone is welcome to join us to decorate the cross, there is also a reflective service on Maundy Thursday (24 March), the day before Good Friday.
Church Services 6 March Mothering Sunday Service 11am, Café style and a gift for each mum that attends. 24 March Maundy Thursday. (time to be confirmed) A reflective mix of bible reading and hymms. 27 March Easter celebration including decorate the cross with flowers.

A Good Read
Lazy Blood by Ross Greenwood Ross Greenwood is a man with a mission – to put his home town of Peterborough on the map. The former King’s School pupil and Peterborough prison officer is celebrating the publication of his debut novel, set in the city. Lazy Blood, a contemporary crime novel laced with dark humour, tells the story of a forty-year-old who finds himself in jail for the second time. “I always planned to set the novel in Peterborough because it is a big city but seems to be under represented culturally,” says Ross. “There are very few novels set here and even less with a crime theme. Of those Peterborough is often painted in a negative light and even though the book tackles some dark themes I hope it comes across that Peterborough is a good place to live.” The book tells how, coasting through life, central character Will Reynolds paid little attention
to the decisions he made or the consequences of his actions. From his prison cell, he finally understands. He had it all, he just didn’t know it. Ross describes Lazy Blood as a ‘laugh-out-loud story of the drama of love, the endurance of friendship, the frailty of life and how they can all be ruined by broken people, random events and idle choices.’ “The idea of writing a book appealed from a very young age,” he says. “As I got older a concept began to form over many years which would become Lazy Blood. As a prison officer, I met a wide range of people from the eccentric to the downright insane and that gave me an avalanche of ideas and situations.. “Then when my son began to wake me up at 4 a.m. for a feed I found I couldn’t get back to sleep and I more or less finished the book in those quiet morning hours.” A sequel is now being written, which runs parallel to this one. It is the story of a younger person whose world falls apart due to one single event which causes them to lose their way.
Lazy Blood (paperback £9.99, ISBN 978-178456-304-2) is available to order directly from the publisher at www.fast-print.net/bookshop or from any good bookshop or internet retailer.

Dr Helen Trill DipAc PhD MAcuC is a scientist and qualified practitioner of Chinese acupuncture, sports injury therapy and Japanese massage. She is based at Bubbling Spring Acupuncture Clinic in Stanground.
HealthwithHelen I am delighted to have been invited to contribute a health column to the Stanground Gazette. With such a vast subject it has been a challenge to choose what to start with! Something I have been thinking about lately is fun and flow in relation to exercise. It has been a little while now since many of us made fitness resolutions for the New Year. How are they going? Are you managing to stick to your original plan or schedule - if you made one? If yes, great, well done. If not, have you thought about why? There could be many reasons but I wonder if one is that doing exercise simply because we should, or because your smart phone or watch is telling you that you haven’t made 10,000 steps today, doesn’t offer either
fun or flow for many of us. So what’s the alternative? Well. That depends on you. For example, if in addition to getting exercise you would like to meet new people, then joining a sports club that has a social element could be a solution, for example a tennis club. If what you really want is to also de-stress then you might like to try sports with the potential for flow - where you experience complete absorption in the activity for its own sake. A great example is indoor climbing. There is a clear goal, it requires concentration and focus, you have a sense of control over the activity, your focus of awareness is narrowed to the activity itself, and it’s fun and rewarding. So, which sports and activities are going to give you that extra something you need? Over to you..

Awards & presentations
T
he Stanground Academy students beat the odds to win a trophy at the First Lego League STEM Competition. The First Lego League is an internationally organised competition that challenges teams to design, build and programme a robot that can carry out a series of challenging tasks. The team are also required to research the solution to a global issue and present it before a panel of three experts. The teams have twelve weeks to prepare for the event owing to the high demands of the competition. Aiden Donnelly, Cavan Donnelly, Pheobe Norwood, Yashvir Sangha, and Alifirat Yuksel impressed judges with their problem solving, team work and presentation skills when they created their robot and presentation on the day of the competition. The team had suffered setbacks when their original designs experienced technical issues the day before they were due to compete. Despite these issues the team won the award for Best Presentation and earned high praise from Caterpillar and Perkins engineers who were present, stating that it was ‘a privilege to see the improvement of the robot on the day. The team began with the capability of possibly doing one task, to finishing with six completed and a best score that would have won the final!’ The judges also commented that ‘it was also nice to see the children congratulate the other teams after a’battle’, something I personally didn’t see too often on the day.’ Principal James Scarrott said ‘it is great to see our students engaged in these exciting and diverse extra-curricular opportunities. Students who would like to learn more about programming or be involved in next year’s competition can practice their skills each Monday at the Academy.’

n January Leon Baptiste, 200 metre Commonwealth Games gold medallist, visited the Stanground Academy and presented pupils with gold medals to celebrate their success at the Year 7 Sports Hall Athletics Competition. Pupils were also able to ask Leon questions, get advice and even race against him which was an amazing experience for all involved. The Stanground Academy hosted the competition which was held on 12 January and attended by six secondary schools from across Peterborough. Teams of up to eight boys and eight girls participated in the competition, tackling both
track and field disciplines, in this, the first sporting event hosted by the Academy in 2016. This is always a popular event for Peterborough secondary schools and was well supported yet again. There was a great competitive atmosphere as the day kicked off with the 4x1 relay. Participants took part in a mix of sprints and distance running on the track, while the field events consisted of standing long jump, standing triple jump, speed bounce; testing agility and indoor shot putt. The Stanground Academy won overall by some margin in both the girls’ and boys’ competitions with a quality team. Ken
Stimpson Community College came second in the girls’ competition and The King’s School were runners up in the boys’ competition. I would like to thank all the pupils and the schools who participated and the student leaders for their support. All pupils gave determined and passionate performances mirroring the School Games values. James Scarrott, Principal, Stanground Academy.
In hosting this competition, it is hoped that all participants will take steps to be involved involvement in athletics in school and in the wider community.

The Tortoise & The Hare We all know the story of the Tortoise and the Hare. It’s a poignant and educational story that is told by parents and enjoyed by children. Here at Tortoise we believe that it sums up the lettings agency business as well as the estate agency business in a nutshell. Every day we come across situations where we can see how differently we work from other agents. Our methods have been tried and tested over 12 months and the results have been impressive. When it comes down to the story’s fables Estate Agents who DO NOT cut corners will win the race. The Hare is a confident fellow that has no doubt he will win. So confident in fact he can cut corners, rest during the race and still feel he will beat the Tortoise with minimal effort. The race to him is a numbers game – he sees the objective and believes he doesn’t have to try hard to achieve it. The Tortoise on the other hand knows he can win the race putting in the effort and hard work necessary to push him to the finish line ahead of his competition. He sees the objective for what it is and knows that being professional, building a trusting relationship with his client and demonstrating a structured plan he will ensure he crosses that finish line first. Here at Tortoise we stage your home, have it photographed by a professional, we then write up a thorough description and put together a video story of your home and advertise it as set out in our 12-week marketing plan. On our lettings side we use a structured 6-week marketing plan. With our clients at Tortoise we set out a plan to win. If you would like more information please feel free to call one of our Relationship Managers on 01733 592020 or visit our website at www.tortoiseproperty.co.uk stanground gazette March 2016 www.stangroundgazette.co.uk 19
FOOD & DRINK March brings a couple of dates for your diary; St Patrick’s Day which falls on Thursday 17 March. It honours Ireland’s patron Saint Patrick and the culture/ heritage of the Irish population. It’s a great opportunity to have a pint of two of the black stuff and celebrate with friends. I’ve always been kind of disappointed that there is no one traditional drink which sums up the English for Saint George’s Day! March also brings Mothering Sunday on the 14th – time to show her you care – maybe with a few drinks or a meal in one of our locals?

Vanilla chick biscuit pops Have fun in the kitchen and include the children in some Easter baking! Ingredients • 200g unsalted butter, at room temperature • 100g golden caster sugar • 1 medium egg • 1 tsp vanilla extract • 200g plain flour, plus extra for dusting • 200g icing sugar • 2 tbsp milk
• A few drops yellow food colouring • 75g unsweetened desiccated coconut • 50g small chocolate chips • 25g orange or white fondant icing, plus a few • drops orange food colouring • 15-18 lolly sticks (see tip) • Ribbon, to decorate (optional)
Method 1. Put half the butter and all the sugar in a bowl. Using an electric whisk or wooden spoon, beat together until smooth and creamy. Beat in the egg and half the vanilla extract until thoroughly combined. 2. Tip the flour into the mixture and mix on a low speed until it comes together to form a dough. Gather up into a ball, wrap in cling film and chill in the fridge for 20 mins. 3. Heat oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4. Line 2 baking trays with baking parchment. Put the biscuit dough on a lightly floured surface and roll out until about 5mm thick. Cut out
the biscuits using a 6cm round cutter. Transfer the biscuits to the prepared trays and insert the lolly sticks into the sides, just a quarter of the way through. Bake for 6-7 mins until the edges are golden brown, then carefully transfer to a wire rack and allow to cool completely before decorating. 4. Meanwhile, make some buttercream frosting. Place the remaining softened butter in a bowl and beat with a wooden spoon. Slowly add the icing sugar, 1 tbsp at a time, until thoroughly incorporated and you have a smooth, creamy mixture. Add a little milk and the
remaining vanilla extract with a few drops of food colouring to give a pale yellow colour. Chill for 5 mins. 5. Put the desiccated coconut in a small bowl, add a few drops of yellow food colouring and mix well until the coconut is coloured pale yellow. 6. Spread the buttercream frosting over one side of the biscuit and sprinkle with the coconut. Add 2 chocolate chip eyes to each. Pinch a little orange fondant icing and shape into a beak and press into the mixture. Decorate with a ribbon, if you like, and serve. Will keep for 2 days in an airtight container.

id you know that being a smoker or living with someone who smokes puts you at higher risk of having a fire in your home? Throughout March we’re raising awareness of the fire risks associated with smoking and we’d like you to join in. We often find smoking is one of many factors making someone more at risk of fire, for example, when combined with poor mobility, health problems or being elderly, it increases someone’s chance of having a fire.
Here are some tips to take on board or give to friends and family that smoke: • Never leave a lit cigarette or pipe unattended. • Always use a proper ashtray and make sure the contents are cold before you tip it in the bin • Never smoke in bed and avoid smoking in a chair if you are likely to fall asleep

HOME & GARDEN

Banish the weeds and bring your lawn to life
N
ow is the time to ensure your lawn gets the best possible start to this year’s growing season. Sisters Sarah and Jo Parish run the GreenThumb lawn care business in our area and with nearly 2000 customers their expert team will soon be busy applying spring fertiliser and weedkill treatments to get lawns looking lush green, healthy and weed free for summer. Having spent all their working lives in horticulture Sarah and Jo have always had to work around the weather. Sarah says “Because of the mild and wet winter the grass has kept growing and so have the weeds! Moss easily creeps into lawns and the leatherjacket lawn pest (crane-fly/daddy long leg larvae) with their
ferocious appetite has been decimating lawns by eating away all the grass. We can’t wait to get onto lawns and get them into great shape for summer.” It’s a never-ending battle to keep your lawn weed free as seeds lie dormant and others are blown in from neighbouring locations, so your lawn needs on-going treatment. To keep weeds out of your lawn Sarah’s top tips are: Never cut your grass too short – grass that’s less than 25mm (1”) will easily let weed and moss take a hold. Make sure you set your mower at the right height and even increase the height to 50mm (2”) during dry spells. Make sure your flower beds are kept weed free – seeds easily blow into the lawn.
Remember the gardeners saying “one year of weed is ten years of seed” Create a thick and healthy lawn – cut your lawn regularly at the correct height and you’ll encourage healthy roots. Together with a regular feed you can transform an ordinary lawn into a real show piece. Get expert help from GreenThumb – correct, accurate and safe use of weedkill and fertiliser is what we’re about. We take away all the hassle so sign up now for our seasonal ‘weed & feed’ treatments four times a year. Our prices start at £15 a treatment for a lawn up to 40 square metres. We’re cheaper than DIY!

Essential gardening jobs for spring
S
pring is the season where the skies begin to clear and the ground becomes considerably less muddy. So put on your wellies, hats and gardening gloves – it’s time for action! You’ll need to be quick with your gardening jobs over spring – otherwise everything will start sprouting and flowering even before you’ve put a shovel in the ground! Here, Adrian Nind, Managing Director at Bakker Spalding Garden Company shares three essential gardening jobs to complete now that the winter months are coming to an end: Weed control It’s not just plants and flowers that come to life in spring – weeds do too. It is therefore essential to tackle weeds before they have a chance to get out of control. There are a couple
of easy ways to minimise the number of weeds growing in your garden: Avoid large patches of bare soil as weeds will quickly colonise here. Use plastic sheets to cover the soil or mix in large bark chippings to deter weeds. Use a brush to remove weeds from inbetween paving slabs. For weeds in pots, remove by hand and lay a fresh layer of compost. Ensure that the soil in the pots isn’t too moist as this will encourage moss and algae. Plant the hardy stuff Primulas, pansies and irises are all hardy enough to be planted at the beginning of spring, even when the weather isn’t as warm as the season dictates. Once they start to grow, be sure to shelter them from biting winds
and ensure that their surrounding soil is moist and well-nourished. Give the lawn a deep cleansing Now is the best time to give your lawn a bit of love and attention, especially if you want fragrant, healthy, green grass all through the summer months. It’s very important to mow your lawn at the beginning of spring, and don’t forget that grass needs added nutrients over the spring months in order to prepare them for the drier summer months. Use a combination of lawn fertiliser and weed killer to obtain the thickest, healthiest grass.

MONEY MATTERS Stanground Calendar by Pete Bird, Bird & Laws Certified Public Accountants
Do you have any tax or business questions? If so email Pete Bird of Bird & Laws info@birdandlaws.co.uk and if of general interest we will publish them here.
MATTERS TO CONSIDER BEFORE 5 APRIL 2016: Owner Managed Limited Companies: The taxation of dividend income is changing significantly from April 2016 and it’s likely to impact upon the vast majority of owner managed businesses who pay themselves dividends and a small salary. The tax payable on dividend income increases on 5 April 2016 but there may be an opportunity to vote further dividend income before 5 April 2016 to reduce these increases. Also you should consider gifting shares to your spouse as the first £5,000 of dividend income from 6 April 2016 is tax free. Capital Gains Tax (CGT) allowance – use it or lose it: Every individual is entitled to an annual exemption each tax year, that means gains up to £11,100 for 2015/2016 are tax free. If you do not use this allowance, you will lose it. If you have assets you are planning to dispose of that attract CGT you should consider whether you are able to dispose part of these in this tax year and part after 5 April 2016 to reduce any tax payable. Use your ISA allowance: ISA’s provide a tax free environment for your savings. Have you paid the maximum into your ISA investment during the 2015/2016 tax year of £15,240 per person – if not consider topping this amount up. In addition, parents can now also fund a junior ISA. Any unused investment limit cannot be rolled forward into next year, so it will be lost. Maximise your pension contributions: Contributions to your personal pension attract income tax relief. The maximum contribution that may be made for 2015/2016 without incurring an income tax charge is £40,000. You may be able to make additional contributions if you have not used your allowances for the previous three tax years. Contributions must be made before 5 April 2016 if tax relief is to be claimed in 2015/2016. Seek advice from your pension advisor. The above is only a few matters you should consider, but there may be other opportunities depending upon your circumstances so you should seek advice as soon as possible, or talk to us.

CONSUMER ADVICE

New scam targets the elderly and vulnerable
Phone scamming is becoming more and more common – and a new menace facing the elderly and vulnerable is on the rise.
W
hile many of us receive nuisance calls with offers to fix our computers or claiming we have won a holiday of a lifetime, this latest fraud targets a particular audience. Police forces have become aware of some older people receiving telephone calls from a caller claiming to be from their GP surgery, asking for an appointment to discuss the person’s mobility needs. The calls are targeted because in many cases, it is believe that unscrupulous firms are buying databases containing details of patients and their medical / mobility needs. Quite often they arrange to meet the person either in their own home or at a designated place – and will persuade them to
buy mobility aids (which could include bath lifts, scooters or reclining chairs) at inflated prices. More often than not, these aids are unnecessary, inappropriate and always expensive. We know of a couple of cases in where a bogus caller persuaded a patient awaiting a knee operation to buy an adjustable chair for more than eight times the retail price. In another instance, a patient with an already perfectly good working mobility scooter was tricked into buying another – at more than four times the retail price. While some appointments are arranged as a home visit, with the sole reason to sell something – others are made off site, to lure the person away from the house with the
intention of burgling the property whilst they are ‘out of the way’. The police in your area are aware of this latest scam, and information has also been circulated to all GP surgeries and the Clinical Commissioning Groups by the NHS. Remember: Never deal with cold callers – however persuasive they are. If you receive a call of this nature, always check with your GP surgery before agreeing to a visit. Likewise, any cold callers offering to carry out work on your property should be met with extreme caution.
