Elaine Slade, a retired teacher living in Peterborough, talks to Term Times about how she made a childhood dream come true when she became a successful children’s author. Do you have a childhood dream you are still waiting to fulfil? That was how I felt when I retired from my teaching career as a Deputy Head of a large primary school in Surrey. I had longed to be a children’s author ever since I sat at the top of a tall elm tree in my garden in East London and made-up stories in my head. We moved to Werrington three years ago to support elderly relatives and I put my energy, teaching experience and creativity into fulfilling my dream to provide quality, children's story books which support parents and teachers to raise youngsters’ self-esteem. They are aimed at three to eight-year-olds, although the reviews state the theme is applicable to all ages and abilities.
