Master plan : zipPLAY - 1” : 30’
ZipPlay is about motion. All spaces are designed to enhance, encourage and embrace layered experiences of moving t hrough places. ZipPlay is about discovery. All elements are intended to inspire, instruct and engage imaginations of children of all ages and abilities. Most of all, ZipPlay is about fun. The existing site is characterized by transit on many levels – predominantly defined by the railway and the bike path which dissect the space in opposite directions. The railroad serves as an identifying link to the industrial past. The bike path connects a growing community and surrounding neighborhoods with Cleveland’s developing, vital waterfront. The primary goal of ZipPlay is to harness this potential – to transform this transitional space into a dynamic, innovative landscape. Interventions tread lightly on current conditions: the existing topography defines pattern and plan; the industrial and artistic atmosphere instructs program and visual context; and serial sounds, sights, textures and sensations are derived from the environment.

Section AA’ : MONKEY MOUNTAIN & SWINGS - 1” : 10’
Specific activities are meant to motivate different aspects of the imagination. Illustrations on the Motion Fence are heightened by the speed of the trains traveling behind it and are intended for passive enjoyment by all types of users. Interactive elements include the Musical Fence, a kinetic sound sculpture activated by a spinning play structure. Active challenges include a Slide Wave, a Zip Line and the Climbing Monkey Mountain. Areas for constructing and assembling include the Sand Pit and the Orb Train, where kids manually move and manipulate spheres on a track system. The design also encourages interface and collaboration: the amphitheatre and the swings offer opportunities for quiet or social moments. Informal, open areas like the Meadow are incorporated for children to explore an unstructured landscape. All of these elements use custom combinations of recycled, reclaimed materials that reflect the principals of creativity and environmental sustainability. ZipPlay becomes a park for anyone at anytime. Whether you are on your bike, in your wheelchair, walking through or visiting the park as a destination …………………………………………………………..
