Circus performance in the Centre

The building became a circus center in the 1990s and its combination of large internal spaces (the former combustion chamber and generating chamber) together with smaller rooms that can be used as studios, makes it a successful venue, both for circus training and for special events. HOXTON SQUARE

The National Centre for Circus Arts is a registered charity and one of Europe’s leading providers of circus education. Based in a magnificent Victorian power station adjacent to Hoxton Thousandths of people are involved in the creation and performance of circus arts every year. Over half of the annual income needed to run the National Centre comes from grants and donations.

The range of work includes a BA Hons degree in Circus Arts, a structured progressive training programme for under 18s and professional development opportunities for aspiring and established performers. Adults and young people can take part in a range of recreational classes and we provide workshops and away days for the business community.

Technical model Retractable Roof with Polycarbonate Scale 1:20 Similar to the sliding system, the retractable roof also use tracks to opens and close. The specific technology with them is that they can carry more weights and also could bear a frame construction. The advantage of this system is that the wheel are replaced by gears which ensure a better traction between the electric motor and the track. In a addition to the system I add a tensile cables along the structure which is helping to hold the frames on a place. Furthermore, I moved from manual to mechanical opening via two electric motor on each edge. The idea comes from the Vienna town Hall Roof where he motors are placed on each beam. Also, I made a video showing how the roof is working https://vimeo.com/user101783983/review/353556095/18467d29dd Stage 1
