Germantown Academy Summer Day Camp

Week Three Newsletter (July 9 –July 13, 2012) Note from the Director

Cardboard Boat Winners

This week we beat the heat by playing lots of water games! Campers and Counselors used water toys and water balloons along with our great sprinkler to cool off! The also spent a lot of time in the creek canoeing and racing cucumber boats! We finished our week by having our yearly cardboard boat race. Next week will be having a scavenger hunt, crazy hat day, and finishing off the week with our Carnival! I hope you and your family have a safe and happy weekend!

Please apply sunscreen every morning; we spend much of the day outside. Also, please send a labeled water bottle with your child each day. Because the weather is very hot and campers are active all day, please be sure your camper has a nutritious lunch. If your child is going to be late, requires an early pick-up, or will be absent from GA Day Camp, please call the Summer Programs Office at 267405-7321 or email is at summer@gacamp.org

Spot the Ball Place an X where you think that the GaGa ball is. Put your name and troop on this sheet and give it to Graham on Monday. The closest to the center of the ball wins a prize.

Parents, please remember to label EVERYTHING you send to camp.

Hawaiian Day Emily a CIT, dressed in a grass skirt, taught

Counselors In Training – Performing Well! Our CIT’s are Ben, Connor, Tyler, Danielle, Grace, Eilis, Chris, Taylor, Jamir, Peyton, Meg, Maddie, Kayla, Maya, Alexa, Emily, and John. Their CIT counselors are Joanna Stahl and Maura Sauerman.

Ropes Activity Chris O’Donnell is our fantastically fun ropes counselor. Along with teaching the campers how to climb the rock wall, he also teaches them games that build communication and teamwork. Chris says, “He likes to see kids develop confidence in their ability to conquer elements on the rock wall and in the woods.” He loves it when kids start off scared, but come down with a big smile, saying, “I’ve done it!” At GA Day Camp, we are very lucky to have a CIT group. Joanna Stahl, who says that she hopes that CIT’s leave the program having learnt leadership and the qualities of being an effective camp counselor, heads this leadershipbuilding program. Jamir says, “I can be a good rôle model for the younger kids.” Peyton confides, “She likes working with campers of different ages, having fun all summer and enjoys this great opportunity.” “Working with amazing kids and bringing smiles to faces everyday,” quotes Emily. Danielle, who was a camper for many years, says, “It’s a neat experience, we have a good time helping other kids have a great time. I have been at GA Day Camp since I was 7 and I know where the kids are coming from.” A short survey of these dynamic leaders in training revealed that many of them would like to serve snow-cone flavors of root beer, mango and watermelon. Their favorite age group to work with? There is not one specifically, they enjoy working with all age groups and assisting with all activities. The future of GA Day Camp looks bright with these enthusiastic and talented Counselors in Training!
