17 Aug : CLASSIFICATION TALK Rtn. MINAL BHADE

From President’s Desk. . . . Dear Riverside Rotarians, Its 2nd Month and as a President my observation is many of our club members are participating in almost every event, meetings and programmes. My request to all, please attend every event as that will help you to know what our club is doing this year & you can meet other members, prospective members, guests which is otherwise very difficult as every Rotarian is a busy man. In addition what club will benefit after you attend, is that you may suggest some other projects in your mind. Rotary as you all know that started functioning on the principals of Fellowship, and that should be one of the criteria why we should attend events. (Continued on Page 3)

Overview of Rotary International’s Leadership Structure (Rotary Basics) Clubs Rotarians are members of more than 32,000 Rotary clubs, which belong to the global association of Rotary International (RI). Each club elects its own officers and enjoys considerable autonomy within the framework of Rotary’s constitution and bylaws.

Districts Clubs are grouped into approximately 530 RI districts, each led by a district governor, who is an RI officer and leads about 50 clubs. The district administration, including assistant governors and various committees, guides and supports the clubs.

The RI Boards The 19-member RI Board of Directors, which includes the RI president and president-elect, meets quarterly to establish policies. Traditionally, the RI president, who is elected annually, develops a theme and emphasis for the year.

The Secretariat RI is headquartered in Evanston, Illinois, USA, with seven international offices in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, India, Japan, Korea, and Switzerland. The office of Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland (RIBI), located in England, serves clubs and districts in that region. The Secretariat’s active managing officer is the general secretary, who heads a 650-member staff working to serve Rotarians worldwide..

Council on Legislation The Council on Legislation, Rotary’s “parliament,” meets every three years to deliberate and act upon all proposed enactments and resolutions submitted by clubs, district conferences, the RIBI Conference or General Council, and the RI Board. The Council itself also makes proposals..

The Trustees of The Rotary Foundation The 15 directors of The Rotary Foundation are appointed by the RI president, with the agreement of the RI Board. The Trustees manage all business of the Foundation. The trustee chair, who serves for one year as chair, is the head of the Trustees. Each trustee is appointed to a four-year term.

You will profit from Rotary in proportion to what you put into your efforts. - By Paul Harris, in a letter to newly chartered club.

The Rotary Foundation Trustee Chair Message August 2011 The Rotary Foundation supports your Rotary service A few months ago, Lorna and I attended three district conferences. The conference programs featured several Rotary Foundation activities, and we heard from Ambassadorial Scholars, Rotary Peace Fellows, Group Study Exchange teams, and representatives from a number of excellent projects in which Rotarians and the Foundation have worked together. I reflected on how much our Rotary Foundation is woven into the fabric of our Rotary service. After the conferences, I went directly to a meeting of the Future Vision Committee. The committee heard from one of our RI senior managers, who had tested the process of applying for grants and found the global grants application to be too complex. We also discussed the definition of basic education within the areas of focus, possible strategic partnerships, and training for those districts not in the pilot. There were many other topics, but I mention these to demonstrate that there are big items and small items that need attention as we work our way through the pilot. We are all experiencing some frustrations as we build the Foundation for the future. The three years of the pilot will seem a long time for many of you, but we are shaping something that should help us serve humanity more effectively in the years ahead, and we need to test that we are getting it right. From that meeting, it was straight into the Finance Committee meeting, where senior staff and trustees spent a day and a half working through the budget to ensure that our operating costs could be as low as possible while still giving you the service you need. Our aim is to ensure that we spend the maximum amount on programs. This is our Rotary Foundation, and there are many people working in different ways to give you the best possible support in your Rotary service. Bill Boyd Foundation Trustee Chair

Boss / Leader The boss drives his men; The boss depends on good will; The boss inspires fear; The boss says "I"; The boss assigns tasks; The boss says "Get here on time!"; The boss fixes blame for the breakdown; The boss knows how it's done; The boss makes work a drudgery; The boss says "Go!";

the leader coaches them. the leader depends on good will. the leader inspires enthusiasm. the leader says "We." the leader sets the pace. the leader gets there ahead of time. the leader fixes the breakdown. the leader shows how. the leader makes it a game. the leader says "Let's go!"
