“This year I wanted to be an environment leader because I want to take action about what is happening to our planet and I think that we should all take more care. I want to change things by making inspiring projects and posters! I am taking walks on Wednesdays and Fridays instead of travelling by the car. I have flowers and vegetables in my garden and my house. I also take three-to-fiveminute showers to save water and I recycle plastic and do beach clean-ups.”

This year the Environment Team is continuing to work hard to limit the amount of single-use plastic in our School and wider community. They have familiarised themselves with the harmful effects of plastic in our environment, the long-term effects and ways to reduce and reuse.

The Enviro Team monitors litterless lunches in the Junior School weekly and have created a number of initiatives to encourage students to be litter free and sustainable.

In conjunction with the Senior School Environment Team we have been running a very successful walking school bus that allows parents to drop their daughter off and they can walk to school as a collective group. Through our PYP programme, the girls have developed a passion to reduce the amount of carbon emissions in our world and have made the links to the way we travel to school.

Around our Junior School we have some garden spaces that we monitor and look after. This year we have grown a large number of tomatoes and beans that provide a delicious lunchtime snack. The planter boxes out the front of the Junior School provide a beautiful pop of colour to our School environment and we have been watering these daily.

“I am in the Environment Team because I really care about the environment and having a sustainable future. I want to have clean air to breathe and clean cool waters full of fish. By being in the Environment Team I can show others how we need to look after the environment.”
