Alfama, situado no coração de Lisboa, é o bairro mais antigo da capital portuguesa
e o segundo mais antigo da Europa. Alfama data do Séc. VIII, fundada pelos árabes o seu nome deriva de Al-hamma. Alfama é bastante peculiar, caracterizada pelas suas ruelas estreitas, as suas íngremes ruas, as suas escadas enormes, a tradicional calçada portuguesa, as casas com roupa pendurada nos estendais, as suas fontes, os seus miradouros e, claro, pelo fado. Este conjunto de fotos data de 2017, altura em que fui convidado pelo Instituto Português de Fotografia, Lisboa, juntamente com outros fotógrafos, a realizar uma exposição sobre Alfama-Castelo no Bartô - Chapitô em Alfama. Esta zine é o resultado do meu projecto na íntegra. Devido à sua natureza mais plástica, mais crua e também pela minha paixão, optei por fotografar em analógico. Assim, fiz uso da minha Zenit-E com um rolo de Ilford HP5 para conseguir o detalhe nas sombras e o grão que considerava ideal para este projecto. Como complemento utilizei uma Fujifilm Instax Mini 90 com filme a Preto e Branco para ter uma visão mais sonhadora e irreal deste bairro típico, inspirador e mágico de Lisboa.
Alfama, located in the heart of Lisbon, is the oldest neighbourhood of the Portuguese capital and the second oldest in Europe. Alfama’s origin dates back to the 8th century, founded by the Arabs, with its name deriving from Al-hamma. Alfama is quite peculiar, characterized by its narrow alleys, steep streets, huge stairs, the traditional Portuguese pavement, the houses with clothes hanging on the clotheslines, its fountains, belvederes and of course the fado. This set of photos dates back to 2017, when I was invited by the Instituto Português de Fotografia, Lisbon, along with other photographers, to hold an exhibition about Alfama-Castelo at Bartô - Chapitô in Alfama. This zine is the result of my full project. Due to its raw and plastic nature, together with my passion, I decided to shoot in analog. With this, I used my Zenit-E together with an Ilford HP5 film to achieve the shadow and grain detail I desired. To complement this project I used a Fujifilm Instax Mini 90 with Black and White film to get a more dreamy and unreal view of this typical, inspiring and magical neighbourhood of Lisbon.

Diogo Pimenta é um fotógrafo nascido em 1988 na cidade de Lisboa, Portugal, estando actualmente a residir em Dublin, Irlanda. Realizou a sua formação em fotografia analógica no Núcleo de Arte Fotográfica do Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisboa. Desde sempre demonstrou um interesse no estudo do desconhecido na fotografia experimental e pelos processos “perdidos no tempo”, é neste seguimento que a sua paixão pelo analógico desperta. Este torna-se o seu método ideal para se expressar, devido à sua intemporalidade e ao balanço que é possível atingir entre o realismo e a ilusão.
Diogo Pimenta is a photographer born in 1988, in the city of Lisbon, Portugal, and is now living in Dublin, Ireland. He studied Analog photography at the Núcleo de Arte Fotográfica of Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon. He has always shown a great interest in photography for the unknown, the experimental and for the old processes that are “lost in time”. It is in all of this that his passion for the analogic begins. Thus, this becomes his ideal method of expressing himself, due to the timelessness of the process and the balance that can be achieved between realism and illusion.
