FIRST STEP Connect the network cable that you can find in your room to your laptop. In most cases the connection will set up automatically. It is nonetheless possible that your Operating System configuration does not allow access to the net. Should this happen, there is an easy solution. Spend some moments reading the advice you can find in this guide.
WARNING: The following configuration procedures apply to OS Windows 2000 and Windows XP. If you use an earlier OS, you could find some differences due to a different organization of the system folders. Nonetheless, this does not constitute a serious problem since it is easy to find an alternative route.

Check that Network Adapter is correctly installed
HOW TO DO IT Open Control Panel/System/Hardware. In the Device Manager frame select the button Device Manager. In the example shown in picture 1, the first Network Adapter has been correctly installed while the second, which is crossed out in red, has not. IS THIS THE PROBLEM YOU HAVE? THEN… Using the mouse, select the Network Adapter you wish to enable, double click and follow the instructions given by the OS.

Check the Internet Properties
HOW TO DO IT Open Control Panel/Internet Options/Connections (picture 2) and make sure one of the following options has been selected: - Never dial a connection - Dial whenever a network connection is not present IS THIS THE PROBLEM YOU HAVE? THEN‌ If, as it could be the case, you have a network connection which is already active, select Never dial a connection. On the contrary, enable the option Dial whenever a network connection is not present. Click Apply and OK.

Check the Internet Protocol
HOW TO DO IT Open Control Panel/Network Connections and select the available network connection. Click the right button of the mouse and select Properties. (If your OP is Windows XP, select the icon Network Resources, using the right button of the mouse click on Properties). A window will open (picture 3): select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), then click on Properties (picture 4). Make sure that: - Obtain an IP address automatically is selected - Obtain DNS server address automatically is selected IS THIS THE PROBLEM YOU HAVE? THEN‌ Select both options and click OK.

Check the Local Area Network (LAN)
HOW TO DO IT Open Control Panel/Internet Options/Connections click on the LAN Settings button and make sure that under the heading Local Area Network (LAN) Settings (picture 5) the following option is selected: - Automatically detect settings IS THIS THE PROBLEM YOU HAVE? THEN‌ Enable the option Automatically detect settings and click OK.

LA PRIMA COSA DA FARE Collega al tuo laptop il cavo di rete che trovi in camera: nella maggior parte dei casi la connessione a internet avverrà in modo automatico. È tuttavia possibile che la configurazione del tuo Sistema Operativo non ti consenta l’accesso alla rete. Se questo dovesse succedere, la soluzione è a portata di mano. Dedica qualche istante a leggere i suggerimenti contenuti in questa guida.
AVVERTENZA: I percorsi di configurazione riportati di seguito si riferiscono ai Sistemi Operativi Windows 2000 e Windows XP. Se usi un Sistema Operativo precedente, potresti riscontrare delle differenze dovute a una diversa organizzazione delle cartelle di sistema, senza con questo incontrare delle reali difficoltà nel trovare il percorso alternativo.

Verifica che la Scheda di Rete sia installata correttamente
COME FARE Entra in Pannello di Controllo/Sistema/Hardware. Nel riquadro Gestione Periferiche seleziona il tasto Gestione Periferiche. Nell’esempio riportato in figura 1, la prima Scheda di Rete è installata in modo corretto, mentre la seconda, con la “x” rossa sovrascritta, non lo è. È QUESTO IL TUO PROBLEMA? ALLORA… Seleziona con il mouse la Scheda di Rete da abilitare, fai doppio click e segui le istruzioni fornite dal Sistema Operativo.

Verifica la Configurazione di Accesso Remoto
COME FARE Entra in Pannello di Controllo/Opzioni Internet/Connessioni (figura 2) e accertati che sia selezionata una delle seguenti opzioni: - Non utilizzare mai connessioni remote - Usa connessione remota se non è disponibile una connessione di rete È QUESTO IL TUO PROBLEMA? ALLORA… Se, com’è probabile, hai una connessione di rete già attiva, seleziona Non utilizzare mai connessioni remote. In caso contrario, attiva l’opzione Usa connessione remota se non è disponibile una connessione di rete. Clicca Applica e dai l’OK.

Verifica la Configurazione di Rete
COME FARE Entra in Pannello di Controllo/Rete e Connessioni Remote e seleziona la connessione di rete disponibile. Clicca sul tasto destro del mouse e seleziona Proprietà. (Se il tuo sistema operativo è Windows XP seleziona sul desktop l’icona Risorse di Rete, premi il tasto destro del mouse e clicca su Proprietà). Si aprirà una finestra (figura 3): seleziona Protocollo Internet (TCP/IP), quindi clicca su Proprietà (figura 4). Accertati che: - Sia selezionato Ottieni automaticamente un indirizzo IP - Sia selezionato Ottieni indirizzo server DNS automaticamente È QUESTO IL TUO PROBLEMA? ALLORA… Seleziona entrambe le opzioni e dai l’OK.

COME FARE In Pannello di Controllo/Opzioni Internet/Connessioni clicca sul tasto Impostazioni LAN e accertati che sotto la voce Impostazioni Rete Locale (figura 5) sia selezionata la seguente opzione: - Rileva automaticamente impostazioni È QUESTO IL TUO PROBLEMA? ALLORA… Attiva l’opzione Rileva automaticamente impostazioni e dai l’OK.
