Live Music in the City A bit of background music can go a long way in making for a lively, fun evening with friends. Whether you are a whisky quaffing bar propper or a young at heart rocker, jakarta offers a multitude of venues in which to take in a bit of live music. We’ve included in this list a couple of classic venues that you’ve probably already heard of and also a few newer establishments which are definitely worth a look!
Classic Venues Black Cat Jazz Club The most well known Jazz venue in the city is Black Cat Jazz Club in the Arcadia building near Plaza Senayan. Here, you are guaranteed live Jazz, Blues or Soul 6 nights of the week (Black Cat is closed on Sundays).Lit by candles, the lounge itself is dark and a bit dingy but this adds to the atmosphere, A full menu and drinks list is also served.
B.A.T.S Located at Shangri-La Hotel describes itself as an underground New York bar and restaurant right in the heart of jakarta. It’s generally fairly busy and features live entertainment from 2 different bands from 6pm every night. With all of the mingling people, flasihg multi-coloured strobe lights, and bands blaring out their top 40’s and classic tunes, the atmosphere here is pretty animated..
Hard Rock Cafe With its huge bar and dinig space, raised stage, and walls plastered with rock memorabilia, Hard Rock Cafe has a younger, brassier feel to it. Live music here, which begins at 9pm every night, generally takes the form of bigger, louder, livelier bands, Asiarox, who play every night play anything from popular rock ballads from the 70s to chart toppers today. Acoustic group, Icons take to the stage every Tuesday with their top 40s hits.

New Venues Artoz A newcomer to the city centre’s bar scene, Artoz is a comfortable and ambient spot to take in a bit of live music of an evening. Specializing whiskies, cognacs and cockltails, Artoz’s intimate bar is sophisticated yet cosy with dark leather, soft lighting and a grown u clientele. Live music performances, which are scheduled every evening (excpet for Saturdays when they have a DJ), match the surroundings in that rather than overly loud, garish groups of singers singing chart music, Artoz offers more relaxed, Jazz, Soul, and Latin ensambles.
Largo Bistrot Although not strictly “new”, Largo Bistrot is perhaps less well known as alive music venue. On Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, Largo hosts various Jazzy ensambles in their spacious and comfortable dining area on the ground floor. The Kitchen serves thin crust pizzas and snacks until late so you can enjoy a bottle of wine with something to nibble on while watching the band.
Karumba! The newly opened Karumba Rooftop Rum Bar at Mercure Jakarta Simatupang offers South Jakartans another option of live music venue, showcasing live performances from Wednesday through to Saturday evenings. The drinks menu is extensive and if rum is your thing, you’re in luck as the bar serves a huge variety of West Indian inspired rum cocktails, such as Planter’s Punch. Thursday evenings see the popular Funk & Jazz guitarist and performer Barry Likumahuwa take to the stage, while on Fridays the Latin Jazz sound of Rio Moreno Combo take over.

There is so much can be done in terms of combining music and cuisine as each region boasts its own. It will be amazing as self journey and exploration not only for diners but for the cook itself. A research project undertaken by the Oxford University and the Fat Duck restaurant in England, which provides the first empirical proof that flaovor perception can be modulated. The bitter taste can be enchanced with low notes, while the sweet flavor with high notes-all through the use of sound. Sound is what sensory science reaks consider the element to modulate taste, and recent years have seen a boom in research in this area. Sound is the final frontier in food presentation. Diners may feel uneasy over menus, crockery, furniter and lighting, yet often any old song played in the background will bring back a good memory and make them feel at ease and happy. Appetite to eat in the airplane is usually low as the food are really unappetizing. Study showed that loud background nouse put donw saltiness, sweetness, and overall enjoyment of food. For airline passengers, the blocking of nasal passages is worsen by the high altitude, therefore it also blocks access to aromas. But it is interesting to find out the foods and drinks with umami-roch ingridients, such as parmesan, mushroom, tomatoes, and cured meats could help improve taste buds at high altitude. Apparently, it is really good idea to enjoy bloody Mary Cocktail on the airplane. According to research, tomato juice will taste better. Well all these are just the start of long and winding road in research, and the findings will undoubtedly be noted especially by groups of foodies, who are of multinational companies keen on manipulating customers into buying their products. There is no evidence to back the accuracy of all these research. Perhaps people are adjusted to their opinion about how music or sound can affect taste buds.

And End to Music Piracy In 1986, Nesuhi Ertegun, co-founder of Atlantic Records, where Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin and Led Zeppelin made their greatest recordings, met wit a group of Indonesian music pirates in a hotel in Kuala Lumpur to discuss music piracy. Music piracy had to stop according to Nesuhi “One of you even stole my Atlantic trademark!” he exclaimed. This has to stop being a culture to Indonesian and everyone else.
STOP PIRACY CULTURE Following prolonged discussion that afternoon, a new undestanding emerged based on mutual respect for music Connections were made that soon led to full commercial partnerships. License deals were struct, and, for a time, piracy disappeard. Fast forward nearly 30 years and the situation throughout Asia has taken a backward step : piracy is rife and the music industry is on its knees again. In fact, in many ways, the situation is worse than before it’s a new kind of piracy now. You don’t see many unauthorised CDs on the streets. They have been wiped out by online music piracy. Online piracy is a dangerous, as it is pervasive. Entrepreneurs provide the technologies. Internet service providers supply the connectivity, bandwith and transmission facilities and consumers carry out the unauthorised uploading an ddownloading. Who is at fault? How and where can the problem be tackled? (It has to be resolved since record industry revenues has fallen by some 60% in the last 15 years.)
