CONCRETE GHOST - A TALE OF THE UNEXPECTED And a collaboration, born in the blogosphere which came down to earth in concrete form! Two designers Kathy Dalwood, known for her concrete figurines & friezes, and Di Overton of Ghost Furniture and influential blog Designer’s Block, met through their blogging activities back in 2009. Upon meeting they discovered that they had both been admiring each other’s work from afar, as far away as London is from Northumberland. Kathy creates distinctive concrete sculptures and Di takes vintage finds and turns them into new and beautiful items with a touch of 21st century eco-chic. Together they have created a range of furniture and accessories each with its own sculpture. To launch this collaboration they have used antique tassels as the theme, each presented in a very different way. In this startling, beautiful and inventive collection, French flea market frames and furniture along with exquisite trimmings from the hidden merciers and passementeries of Paris are brought together with industrial grey concrete tassels - stunningly realistic pieces created by direct casting from real vintage silk originals – to create a range of striking, one-off, sculptural accessories. Free-standing, framed or as curtain tie-backs, these sculptures will bring a unique and distinctive edge to any interior design scheme.

We took the lid from a Victorian music cabinet to create this stunning piece, finished in a matte pale ash grey. The tassel has been wound with a vintage fuschia embroidery thread and a vintage green velvet ribbon. The addition of a fabulously delicate little vintage gold mesh button and a vintage green silk cord, which trails over the edge of the frame, has come together to create a fabulous sculptural piece. We were given this fabulous Napoleon III table by a good friend and avid antiques collector in Paris. Finished in matte and lacquered black paints and topped with a gorgeous concrete tassel which is wound with a vintage black silk cord which is also wound around the leg of the table and finished with a tassel topped with a beautiful circle of cream vintage lace. There is much more to this table that meets the eye as the table top can be used as a blackboard. No one will miss reading your messages if this piece is placed near your front door.
