WHATS GOING ON IN BRISLINGTON

Brislington War Memorial clean-up: Once again we want to tidy up our War Memorial prior to Remembrance Sunday next month. We plan to meet at 10am on Saturday, 23 October to cut back some of the undergrowth, sweep the site and do a litter pick. We’ll also be decorating the memorial with hundreds of knitted poppies and we would also like to encourage as many of you as possible to buy a poppy to support the important work of the British Legion. If you would like to help us with the tidy up, do feel free to join us. Unfortunately, there will be no official Remembrance Service at the Memorial this year as all our local churches are open and will be holding their own services. However, let’s make sure the Brislington War Memorial looks its best to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Jubilee Pool update: Jos was able to attend last week’s Friends of Jubilee Pool meeting at Redcatch Road Community Centre. 24

The Friends have now submitted an expression of interest for a Community Asset Transfer but this is likely to take some time. Bristol City Council will not subsidise the pool after March, 2022. However, the operators, Parkwood, will continue to keep the pool open without the subsidy as long as it is profitable, which it currently is. Unfortunately, if it starts to run at a loss, they will have no option but to close the pool. A big pressure is going to be the rise in gas prices! Litter-pick success: Thank you to everyone who attended our community litter pick on Saturday. We managed to amass quite a haul down by Bloomfield and Whitby Road near Sainsbury’s. We also did the little lane that runs up to Sandhill. During the litter pick, we noticed dozens and dozens of blue plastic gloves stuck in the bushes that had blown over from Sainsbury’s petrol station so we popped in and spoke to the duty manager about the issue. He promised to look into the dispensing mechanism to ensure all this plastic doesn’t end up trapped in neighbouring bushes.
